Ed02 do United have any interest in Lemar? You mentioned Arsenal's bid has hit a wall and there have been reports today that United may turn to him as an alternative to Bale / Perisic?

Believable0 1Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any approach.}

What's this news about Juventus looking for Fellaini. Anyone heard the same?

Dont know how they can't see him. Fella stands out in a crowd.

I've said it before. If Matuidi was all that, there's no way in hell PSG would let a French international leave their ranks.

Hi Eds. Saw a few reports saying that Man United will look to sign Greizmann in January after missing out on Perisic and Costa will join atletico. I'd love it to be true but I'm not sure. Have you heard anything about it? Thanks.

Believable3 2Unbelievable

{Ed004's Note - I think that would be the ideal scenario. Aurier to complete this window and Griezmann in January. Then next summer evaluate the left back position}

16 Aug 2017 01:45:45
I agree. He's pure class. His work rate is fantastic so he's a great player to fit into Joses system.

Agree1 0Disagree

16 Aug 2017 06:34:07
Clubs don't sell their best players in January. if Griezmann is still in the radar it'll be next summer.

Agree4 0Disagree

16 Aug 2017 10:14:39
As athletico will almost certainly still be in the CL why would he move in January as he wouldn't be able to play for us even if we are still in it. Next summer makes more sense.

Agree3 1Disagree

{Ed004's Note - But it would be a massive boost if we are going for the league. It's highly unlikely that we will be competing for champions league this year and can't see Atletico mounting a challenge either}

16 Aug 2017 13:24:30
ESPN FC reporting that Jose has decided against a fourth signing at this point and will wait until January to reassess his options since if would mean offloading fringe players.

If that's the case I really hope Shaw gets fit and takes his chance. Blind is hardworking and is a good squad player but he should be a stop gap and I don't feel he can be counted on game in game out. Physically and positionally he is often a liability.

I feel that we can wait on a winger and RB if we can't recruit who Jose has identified in this window. Panic buying is not the answer.

Agree0 4Disagree

16 Aug 2017 16:13:24
Sigh, please tell me when Blind me was a liability last season, he was caught out of position a couple of times I can remember. People make sweeping statements what check are frankly dumb. I get some don't like him, some think he is average, everyone is entitled to their opinions on. I'm not saying he should be a regular starter but 'often a liability' is simply not true.

Agree8 2Disagree

16 Aug 2017 18:16:29
It seems oh so easy to label our own players a liability Tony yet seem not to understand a player like blind is worth his weight in gold, how many positions does the guy play? And also the lapses that you talk about are probably mainly due to him not feeling naturally comfortable in the position he is asked to play.

It's players like blind that help win titles imo never moans does his job as best as he can and respects the shirt .

I honestly wish the window was closed the absolute obsession with buying players is tiresome when will we appreciate what we already have .

Agree4 0Disagree

16 Aug 2017 18:46:49
Right on my man, people are obsessed with buying players and shinny New toys .

Agree1 1Disagree

16 Aug 2017 19:13:57
The shiny new players approach is one issue but my biggest beef is the sweeping generalisations people make about our players. Blind, Fellaini, Darmian have all had their turns, I think they all have something to contribute and all seem pretty committed to the cause.

I think we have a great team spirit right now and we seem to have momentum, sometimes personalities have a big part to play in success.

Agree5 0Disagree

I'd be happy to go at this season with our current squad. If players like Smalling, Fellaini etc are happy playing back up roles then keep them. I'd even take Zlatan back for the second half of the season if he accepted a back up role. We look in excellent shape squad wise. Will we win the league? I'm not sure, but we look in very good shape to at least give it a very good go.

For arguments sake, let's say that our first choice formation was 433 and team would currently be DeGea, Valencia, Bailly, Jones, Shaw, Matic, Herrera, Pogba, Rashford, Miki, Lukaku.

We then have an excellent 2nd keeper, who could play for most sides around Europe in my eyes, and a very good young, learning the ropes 3rd keeper.

Our back up defenders are likely to be Darmian, Rojo, Smalling, Blind and Lindelof to begin with at least. I'm pretty sure there are lots of teams who would happily take a mixture of those guys as their first choice defence, and we can call on them as back up.

Midfield we can call on Carrick, Fellaini, Pereira and Blind if needed.

Then going forward we have Lingard, Martial, Mata and Young.

This isn't to mention quite a few promising youngsters. Now to me that is a very good squad. Yes there are some players we would love who could improve us further like Griezmann, but I honestly don't think there are that many players out there, who we would have a hope of signing, that would improve us enough to swap them for what we have. If Jose wanted Perisic still and that meant Young left, then so be it, I wouldn't say he was wrong, but I don't think that he is a necessity and wouldn't be such a huge upgrade on what we can currently call on.

Let's get our heads down, work hard and see where this bunch of lads can take us this season.

Agree7 1Disagree

16 Aug 2017 20:13:04
I know where your coming from, I can't get my head round why people want a rb I thought Tony was one of our best players last season.
I don't understand people's downer on this squad.

16 Aug 2017 20:43:11
I dunno it seems very recent this obsession with new players i don't ever even Remember putting any stock into it 20 years ago, don't get me wrong i was always reasonably excited at a new signing but my entire existence didn't depend on it like it does for certain folk now.

And jred I agree man we have a players here at the moment that we will regret seeing the back of if they do go and I was always brought up to love anything in a united shirt i'd have sang if I had a hammer if Peter Sutcliffe had played for us! I just can't understand why we can't love what we have? I do and for every man that gives his all for the shirt I will give my heart to them f**K new shiny players let's get behind what we have and enjoy our beautiful, wonderful, fantastic club 😊.

Agree2 1Disagree

16 Aug 2017 23:48:35
I don't get the anti Blind brigade. Chelsea won the league with Alonso and Moses at full back and neither were fancied. Blind is an intelligent and dependable footballer and will be vital this season given a) we don't know if Shaw will fulfil his potential b) Rojo is injured and not a full back c) Lindelof will need time to settle d) Jones is made of glass and e) Smalling is average. I like his versatility for those reasons bit also don't buy versatility being much of and advantage from the bench given most combinations of 7 subs can cover every position.

I'd be fine if we don't sign any more players this summer and next summer move on a few and only sign players who will walk in to the 11 e. g. Griezman.

Agree2 0Disagree

16 Aug 2017 23:59:05
AJH, I actually think Blind is a valuable squad player. I just don't think he's a natural LB and can be exposed at times. I do agree that he gives it his all, respects the badge and plays where he's asked with no complaints. He's a valuable asset and I often defend his contribution to the team with my mates. Same for Fellaini and others mentioned above. I'm fully aware we can only play 11 at a time and winning games and titles in the epl is extremely tough without selfless squad players like Blind. It wasn't a personal attack on him. I simply think, and hope, that Shaw comes good and nails down LB since he has the potential to be a top player. Maybe I wasnt clear with my OP on LB. I'm not suggesting we buy a new LB. ideally Shaw comes around, avoids injury and Blind remains a solid backup that can cover CB, LB and holding MF for years. I'm happy with the squad as is and I'm pretty confident in our chances to compete for top of the league.

17 Aug 2017 13:38:07
Yes, enough of this transfer window. The squad looks in great shape and is more than ready to handle anything that comes their way.

I think Blind has been a great player and much like fellaini and I can only remember 1 or 2 instances where they were caught out. Which is incredible.

According to Sly Perisic going to sign a new deal with inter.

Believable3 0Unbelievable

15 Aug 2017 20:53:48
Tbf I think if we were going to sign him we would have by now.

I think Jose trusts the players we have that can play there. and if we can keep the form up from weekend we will be sound for the wing.

I would much rather Rashford and martial rotate either wing and maybe promote someone else.

Perisic may be a good player but there's nothing like one of your own getting the game time.

Question for eds

Is there any truth to the stories of spurs and inter bids for Martial and is that a signal that the player is available and club wants to sell him or is it because he might be looking to move or is it just all bs.

Couple of media outlets in France including L"equipe reporting today Aurier is going to Spurs .

Believable2 0Unbelievable

15 Aug 2017 11:09:16
Don't think that's the worst thing in the World. Is not a very bright man, that comes across very arrogant and disruptive. Decent enough player, but that doesn't make up for the baggage he comes with.

Lucky for us I don't think it's an area we are truly desperate to sort out. I think Valencia will be first choice and despite his critics I do like Darmian and rb is his best position. You can't beat having an Italian defender when you need to defend.

Agree6 3Disagree

15 Aug 2017 15:12:04
Bear, have to disagree there.

Aurier is not without his issues but I think Jose will know how to handle him. RB is an area we need to strengthen. Tony V has done a great job filling in but can't play 60 games a season there. Aurier is (allegedly) available for a decent price and is an upgrade on Darmian and Tuanzebe, possibly on Tony V, too.

Agree1 2Disagree

15 Aug 2017 15:31:36
Ed002 said in recent sharkopod Aurier will likely join, doesn't see why he won't, he agreed to join Inter and Juve per reports too.

I though the ed said it was a deal that could be done as the player was available .
Is he really a massive upgrade at RB?
Do people think Jose is going to drop Tony?

Agree0 1Disagree

16 Aug 2017 08:25:01
Tony is 32 and has a niggling knee injury that may cause issues this season. I'd go all out and get him, and use Darmian / Shaw / maybe Blind at left back this season.

Don't get me wrong I'm a big fan him but he can't do it all season alone and our system relies on fit full backs overlapping.

We talk about youngsters a lot on here filling in but this season we need to go for the title. If they are good enough they'll get a game. If not, we will buy replacements.

Agree0 0Disagree

16 Aug 2017 12:12:55
Eric but Tony will be first choice and play most the games do you think aurier would come to sit on the bench .
Or do you see Jose dropping Tony?

13 Aug 2017 16:54:22
Pogba showing how good he can be, then he holds on to it for to long and loses it. Matic has been class. Exactly what we needed. Over all we've been good so far.

13 Aug 2017 19:35:10
Enjoyable start to the season, Thought matic was very good at picking up the loose balls and playing it forward.
Thought rashford was excellent on the left, Which leads me to ask if we do get Perisic, how is it going to effect Rashford and Martials devolpment. Much rather get a decent centre half, as jones still gives me the collywobbles.
But an enjoyable match well may it continue.

Would only sell to spurs for an exaggerated price as leavy has done to us on previous occasions, or if we are interested in Rose, then its Rose + 10 mil for martial.

Agree3 8Disagree

12 Aug 2017 19:49:11
I wouldn't like to sell him. I think he needs a loan in order to get 40 or so games under his belt then bring him back a better and more mature player.

Agree6 3Disagree

12 Aug 2017 20:14:47
If we are selling him then we must be signing a wide player to replace him.

Agree1 2Disagree

12 Aug 2017 20:30:48
Ken, mourinho has come out and said he wants a winger who can get 15 odd goals a season, that's exactly what martial has done in his first season.

He just needs to be backed by the manager with a solid run in the team.

Agree12 1Disagree

12 Aug 2017 21:05:10
Far too inconsistent and Jose doesn't gamble much he likes playing players he trusts and don't think does that with martial.

I'd let him go, i'm not a fan, if you can get Rose in return, do it.

Why sell to Spurs? Loan him elsewhere at worst, or keep and develop him at best! There's a great player there.

Agree9 0Disagree

13 Aug 2017 09:05:09
martial needs games but if jm likes perisic so much put martial in with the deal for a loan to inter for 12mth be better than selling him if it doesn't work out at inter then maybe think about selling him next year.

Agree5 0Disagree

13 Aug 2017 10:46:07
People don't want Bale because of his injury record but want us to sign Rose who has played pretty much the same amount of games. As for Martial, he needs to pick up this year or I think he will be on his way. Jose is pretty black and white when it comes to players, you are in or you are out, Martial needs to decide which it is.

Agree4 0Disagree

13 Aug 2017 10:59:59
What you forget DSG is that in his first season he was playing as a number 9 not a winger.

Agree1 2Disagree

13 Aug 2017 12:16:03
I think it would be madness to sell him to spurs. He is so so young and if we were stupid enough to sell him to spurs, he will rip it up in that team.

People should go see tapes of Morata, Lukaku, kane, Bale, Benzema, lewondowski and the list goes on when they were 20/ 21, maybe then you will realize how good he is and he needs time and playing on a consistent basis.

Lingard is very average iMO and it will be about if Jose can live with Martial's mistakes/ flaws to allow him to grow as a player.

Ken/ mort

Nothing wrong with the kids head and nothing wrong with shaw either. They are so young they will need playing time and will mature and learn and become smarter football players by experience as both have all the talent you want in a young player. The pressure of playing for a club like us is immense by both our fans and the media who loves a bad story about us and people need to cut them some slack.

Agree1 0Disagree

13 Aug 2017 15:44:25
Martial clearly had issues last year because of his personal life.

You can have all the talent in the world but if you can't mentally cope with the pressure of playing for a big club then its going to have an effect.

We need a large squad. No need to sell players unless they offer nothing to the team. We have a very good squad. On paper a very strong first XI. I'd offload players who add nothing, keep the players who add something, even if off the bench.

In a market where teams will blow their bank account for young talented players its counter intuitive to go sell young talent with huge potential because they are not the seasoned product. They get there by being able to play.

Most of us would have never seen Rashford had it not been for the injuries and the kid getting a chance. Michael keane was also deemed not good enough but a full season of playing elsewhere did wonders for the kid.

I think Martial is a top top player and better than a lot of players people mention and needs playing time. Its a long season and injuries will happen and we will need guys like him who can make a difference.

Morning all, rarely post but usually under "United Kids Wife" I got logged out and can't remember my password 😩 It won't send a new password to my email for some reason? Maybe an Ed can shed some light on this? . anyway I know ed02 hasn't mentioned him but seen quite a few reports of Jose is wanting/ interested in Sergi Roberto from Barca? Again maybe an ed could confirm or dismiss this? Thanks in advance 👍🏻.

{Ed002's Note - Send a note to Ed033 about the email. Mourinho was interested at Chelsea and Chelsea remain interested in the player. I understand that a low offer from Manchester City at the start of the transfer window and Chelsea has been given a figure that might work. Inter and Juventus have made general enquiries.}
