Wow a mental day in the press. ‘Jose to let 11 first team player go’, there’s claims of bullying claims the board are getting annoyed by Shaws treatment. Flying high after the Liverpool win, absolutely hammered in the press since the Seville loss. What a difference a week makes in football, it’s crazy.

Amidst all the questioning going on, i ask myself where would we be in the league without DDG and where might we end up next season if he leaves? The truthful answers tell us how crap the team is (as a team rather than as a group of individuals) .

I have always thought JM would not make a massive difference until next season. My problem is that that I no longer see much happening next season. We bumble on from week to week with no logical progression, dropping players who perform well or moving them to less effective positions.

Either the tactics are wrong (Jose's fault), the players do not carry out instructions (Jose's explanation) and/ or there is a big relationship problem between manager and players. At the moment I don't see a lot of light at the end of the tunnel. Either there is none or the tunnel is very long.

How much the board give jose to spend this summer will indicate how much they're still with his vision, but if some big names scarper off double quick lively then that'll make it an even harder sell, so we're going to see if being a devisive boss will swing potential deals or not, to quote a previous manager-'would you bet against us? '

Romero has played all 4 games in the cup and not conceded a goal, perhaps the way we set up allows the opposition to have lots of shots but many of them are quite easily saved by the keeper.

We wouldn't replace DDG with nobody, we would have a top keeper still playing for us,

Heard that Martial wants to leave for Juventus. Don't know whether it's true or not but I think if any team offers what we paid for him ten we should sell him. There are many who will talk about his potential and stuff but without the right attitude potential is useless.
He has more potential than Rashford but I can guarantee that Rashford will be twice the player Martial would ever become. His link up play is not upto the standard and it's just sad to see him take on the defender on the wings. Everyone can see how easily Rashford can go past on the wings but Martial just runs into the player losing the ball. Rashford makes the opposition nervous with his pressing and you can even see someone his goals have come as a result of him never giving up.
Many will say he will be great under Pochetino or someone else. But can you guys actually see him succeeding under Pochetino or Klopp. They ask a lot from their players and Martial would just fail to deliver. Try to put him in a Spurs team and decide for yourself who will he replace in the front 4. I was very excited when he came and I hope he proves everyone wrong and becomes the best player in the world with us but I just don't understand what type of formation or playing style will suit him so that he can jump into that bracket of world class players.

Play Martial up top or sell him if we get what the board deem a suitable offer.

He’s a 1 in 5 player and that’s nit good enough at Utd despite his age. Rashford has more potential than Martial in my opinion. Not sure it needs to be one or the other though. I’d ditch Zlatan and give him a season rotating with Lukaku up front. However Maybe his sulky demeanour is just too much for Jose and he just doesn’t have what it takes.

Ed002 confirmed that juve are in for him but we are a good bit apart from agreeing a fee.
I would be shocked or saddned if he left but it wouldn't shock me if he was kept to see if he can fulfill his potential and claim a regular place in the side. Have to say he is not my cup of tea.

Zlatan was hardly there this season. He was just here to take some of the money Woodward had been getting in. Don't think Mou trusts Martial up top.

Other than it’s of pace, Rashford hasn’t actually shown that much quality. His composure and finishing Needs a lot of work, his runnning is the channels isn’t the best, and he makes the wrong decision very often. He has a game where he comes up against a poor full back and rinses him the whole game and people think he’s the best thing since sliced bread again. Martial has much more potential, the quality of his finishing etc is streets ahead of rashfords. He just needs to play regularly as a forward. Martial is NOT a winger.

Agree3 2Disagree

18 Mar 2018 20:35:40
Martial is just another example of a young player who needs to be playing in a team which plays to his strengths. He is really good but being played out on the left wing is not going to let his talent shine. Round pegs in round holes. He is going to be awesome if he gets a central attacking role and with a team playing fluent quick football. Not the slow slow pass it a million times we are apt to at the moment.

Agree0 0Disagree

19 Mar 2018 08:02:26
Under pochhetino martial would improve undoubtedly, a couple of years under poch and he would be at that hazard and sanchez (pre joining us) level. No reason why martial shouldn't be getting double figures in goals and assists every season.

If martial can't make it at united our coaching staff aren't fit for purpose. I agree martial is not a winger and should be playing as a striker eventually.

You make very valid points as always ed002.i guess i just don't want to see united lose martial as i like him a lot as a player and he's still very young. i just think replacing him with perisic or bale is madness with bale so injury prone and perisic hasn't been great either.

Do you think mourinho will get it right at united? we still need at least 4/ 5 players. i'm not mourinho out or anything and will back him. i just think players like martial/ rashford and most of the squad would flourish under somebody like pochettino.
Uniteds style football is atrocious and going out to sevilla the way we did was terrible.

{Ed002's Note - The issues that existed when JM first went to Manchester United remain unchanged to this day. To recap what I originally said: He doesn't see MU as a progressive club that will adapt to what he thinks they need - and that is a point he won't stop making. He doesn't like being in Manchester (and that hasn't changed) and there are those there who still see a blue tinge surrounding him (and both still do as I understand matters). There was a major error in taking on Ibrahimovich - it was disruptive with the kids (one specific issue had to be overcome) and he wanted to move elsewhere. I am rather surprised he has not announced his leaving just yet but if he were to stay until the summer the chances of him playing are remote for two reasons we don't need to go in to. Mkhitaryan was a disaster waiting to happen - so that has been fixed. Pogba's career belongs in Spain or Italy - certainly not Manchester (and perhaps I am not the only one who realises that now).
As for getting it right, I don't see Manchester United as a club dominating under Mourinho as he was able to do with other sides. There is the added complezxity of Manchester City, and the likes of Liverpool, Spurs and Chelsea are not far off being an issue for him. If he stays we will see.}

17 Mar 2018 15:42:32

Hi Ed002, thank you so much for giving us your precious time to provide us info-hungry fans snippets of news about our beloved club!
Thus - and apologies if you can’t help, or feel that it’s irrelevant - don’t suppose you might enlighten us about which managers might have been discussed by the non-plussed Man Utd hierarchy should JM decide to leave please.

(And also any credence to the rumours that Pogba has been linked with Barcelona - and if this might happen. )

Thank you for any additional info!

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any recent discussions about replacements for the coach. As for Pogba, it would be fair to say that Mino has spoken with two clubs as far as I am aware but it may be more - but not Barcelona that I know of and I don't see them as a potentially interested club.}

18 Mar 2018 09:53:41
Ed are any teams showing an interest in pogba.

Ibra really was a strange signing.

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of anyone knocking on the door about Pogba at this time but Mino has spoken with two clubs as far as I am aware but it may be more. Any move would be difficult for a number of reasons.}

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - That they may not be willing to hand over the reins completely and give him their total support as they did with Ferguson and Arsenal have done with Wenger.}

16 Mar 2018 19:43:30
Ed-have your anything about the rumour that jose is still interested
in seamus coleman and is having him watched to see if he can get back to where he was before the injury, i wouldn't be upset if that were to happen, he'd be a great signing and the type of player fit to wear the jersey, shades of dennis irwin about him, no nonsense, no dramas, just about the game first, nothing else.

Believable0 0Unbelievable

{Ed025's Note - he would be a good signing for united C82 but i cant see that one happening, he is very happy at everton and rumours are that he will be offered the captaincy which i think he will relish mate..

Believable0 0Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - They have mo approach to Arsenal but if he were available he might be an option - no more. Martial may well move.}

16 Mar 2018 13:27:21
Hi Ed.

About Martial moving, is it the player who is considering his options going forward, or is the manager who is not happy with him.

Thank you.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - He is a player the club think that they can improve on.}

16 Mar 2018 14:21:38
Ed002 who are we going to target to replace martial? Because the 500k guy we bought has performed like he is playing football for the first time in his life.

Agree0 1Disagree

{Ed002's Note - There are options and the club will continue to look:
Gareth Bale (LW) - Will be offered to Manchester United but I think will be priced out of a move when his injuries are taken in to account - and he will likely have another option in England
Jose Arnaiz (LW) - viable option
Marco Asensio (LW) - unlikely because if he leaves he will likely be heading elsewhere and he is very, very pricey
Ivan Perisic (LW) - Manchester United could yet return although he has been struggling a little for form of late}

16 Mar 2018 14:35:21
Thank you Ed. Much appriciated as always.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}

16 Mar 2018 14:35:50
Selling martial would be absolute insanity. i know united are looking at justin kluivert too aren't they? but he's not better than martial and martial has massive potential. sounds like jose ruining another player. imagine martial under the likes of pochettino.

Agree0 1Disagree

{Ed002's Note - I wouldn't think about Kluivert too much and I am not aware of Mr Mourinho "ruining" any players - who do you have in mind.}

16 Mar 2018 14:36:58
Replacing martial with bale or perisic would be an absolute joke to be honest.

Agree1 1Disagree

16 Mar 2018 14:54:12
Thanks ed002, have you watched or know what sort of a player arnaiz is?

Because out of that list only asensio is the only 1 I would like as I have no clue about arnaiz. Perisic is average, if mourinho wants to replace martial with him rather replace Mourinho first. Bale is injury prone and we have enough of those here.

Agree2 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - Perisic is a player who Mourinho has liked for a long time and he would be used to do a specific job - which Mourinho is very good at doing. You cannot simply buy what you see to be the best players and expect them to gel, you need to consider how players will fit the system the coach wants to play. He has shown interest in others in the past, such as Paulo Dybala, Keita Balde Diao and Lorenzo Insigne - and although Dybala is being courted by another Premier League side and Keita Balde only recently moved to Monaco, it might be a wildcard approach for Insigne, we will have to see. Franco Cervi might be another wildcard to consider. Anaiz is seen as a real talent by Barcelona but they are in danger of losing him if a place in the first team squad cannot be found - a right footed left winger.

16 Mar 2018 14:55:36
If the club think they can imorove on martial they are bloody well right.

Agree6 7Disagree

16 Mar 2018 14:58:37
to be fair replacing Martial with Bale or Perisic has no relevance .

As Martial is not a winger and the other two are.

I don't eant Martial to leave but he probably has to leave for his own career. He needs to play in the strikers position as that is where he is suited best.

By us targeting a Lewandowski type of player will make it harder for Martial to get games next year.

Agree1 1Disagree

16 Mar 2018 15:31:21
Ed002 i don't mind if we replace martial with dybala or if the arnaiz kid is good then with him or anyone else mourinho thinks he needs to get his style going. The manager buying players that suit his style is important, but it doesn't seem logical to replace a player who is really talented will go on to be a really good player with someone who is nowhere near as good especially when you consider that martial is 22 while perisic is 30. That is going backwards to me as we are then trading what will be a long term loss to us for a short term success.

Agree1 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - Well the age is irrelevant if Perisic can do the job asked of him and Martial can't. In 2004/05 he added Thiago and Jarosik to do specific jobs and Chelsea won the league. In 2014 he added Filipe Luis and resigned Drigba and Matic to do particular jobs and won the league again. He knows exactly what he is doing.}

16 Mar 2018 15:50:48
Ed002 i don't for a moment doubt he knows what he is doing. But how did signing drogba eventually work out or not replacing ivanovic for that matter? He won the league all right but got sacked the next season by having the worst title defense in epl completely blowing moyes's heroics with us out of the water. It works out short terms comes back to bite you in long term.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - It worked out fine with Drogba, they won the league. Mourinho was not Chelsea manager when Ivanovic (who was replaced) left, Hiddink was. So I am not really sure what point you are trying to make.}

16 Mar 2018 23:18:55
Sanchez (albeit not on form), Rashford and Lukaku are all better than Martial. Never quite seen the love in with him?

So, a few salty rumours going around are that de gea wants off, unless of course a new manager comes in, again psg being linked with pogba, apparently involving a swap deal for verratti? also claims they fancy bringing martial back to the land of garlic, madrid also keeping a watching brief on de gea, varrane? also mentioned in the deal, but i'm guessing this will mean nothing until after the world cup, there are those on here who say because of lack of experience and not having won anything its too early to go for
pocchettino, to that i say balderdash, managers like him come along once in a red moon (well i wasn't going to say blue was i! ), which ever club he's been at they've improved, the players buy into his plan, i don't hear too many complaints and the management love him, he's not the big i am and acts with class and dignity, all in all i think he'd be a good fit, so take the risk and roll the dice, or change the name to 'turgid' united!

Believable7 3Unbelievable

14 Mar 2018 22:54:55
If you were in Pochs shoes would you take the job? He’s got a lot going for him at Spurs with their new stadium being built and he has a solid team. That being said of course United are classed as a bigger team but the gaps closing. Any manager that’s willing to take the United job has to be ready to scrap and fight against Pep and Man City. Would I take Poch? 100% I would but would he join us? Possibly but I’m not sure.

Agree2 2Disagree

15 Mar 2018 00:07:41
Dan I think he would jump at the opportunity. As great as spurs have been they won’t ever give Poch the financial platform to compete with the very best. At united he at least has the opportunity to match city spending. Remember we are still Man Utd - one of the biggest clubs in the world. At the end of the day money talks. You pay enough for Poch and sell him a vision then there is every chance he will come. For any manager the opportunity to revive the wounded giant would be an opportunity they would relish. If they don’t then they are not right for us. Simples.

Agree2 2Disagree

15 Mar 2018 00:12:20
Dan, no discourtesy to the spuds but the difference is chalk and cheese, as for would pochettino take the job? well, he could stayed at southampton and gone along quite nicely for years building steadily, but he plumbed to go to spurs at a time when all was not sweetness and light, frim what has happened since, he gave kane his big chance, changed the style of play and has promoted from the youth team year on year, all the players who've come through have not looked out of place in the premiership, something supposedly legendry managers like lvg didn't achieve-apart from 1-Rashford-for me a criminal return and waste of the academy players, as for jose, Mctominay for sure, but then come a big game, he goes and picks fellaini?! -give the job to pochettino, and let's stop the the fannying around, be brave or enjoy mediocrity for years to come.

Agree1 2Disagree

15 Mar 2018 07:35:18
Dan you're right the gap is closing. We finished 6th last year and now we're ahead of them. Poch is a good manager but has really dine nothing of note. He did a better job at Southampton.

I agree 12 days.
You get a few on hete slagging off posters always wanting shiney new players but they want a shiney new manager. Double standards.
We have a veru good manager over achieving posiruon wise with a lot of poor players.
However he is massively under achieving style wise. That will improve when he gets rid of the average joes.

When Mourinho was quoted as saying that EVERYTHING had to change was he including himself as manager or his philosophy. Or was it everything other than him?

Personally I think he is losing or has even lost the dressing room.
We have seen our team play well, but not consistently. They could be better but I feel either Jose has lost the plot and cannot see what works and gives a good run, or the players just get hacked off when they are pushed back into their tactical boxes and don't give 100%.

I can't believe that any player joining Manchester United came to play anything but expansive football. Either way there does not seem to be an answer without some sort of major upheaval (again) . If it has to be. Do it quickly and soon.

Fellaini isn't a great player but the tie was lost in Spain when Fellaini wasn't even there.

Gambling on a 0-0 draw away is a dangerous game. The advantage of playing the away leg first is supposed to be that you can go all out for away goals and even if you lose bringing back one or more away goals means your still well in the tie.

If we had a couple of away goals then I am confident we would be in the last 8 right now.
