Media rumours today that we are to buy Baines for £16m in January as the long term replacement for Evra who will return to France next Summer. Baines is now 29 and, good as he is, can't really be seen as a " long term" replacement in my view.

I would rather think Coentrao is the more likely option right now.

Baines is very good though and would easily be a top class player for us, for 3-4 years. His crossing is top class. Maybe his price could be well worth it given his ability with set pieces, which will also allow RVP to be in the box at corners.

2.) 16 Nov 2013
For me, Coentrao has to be our next left back. A left hand side next season of him and Januzaj would be brilliant. Baines is just a year, maybe even two years, older than what we need right now.

3.) 16 Nov 2013
Baines' stupid mistake to allow Sanchez's goal last night was almost worse defending than Evra. I'm not basing my opinion of Baines on that one thing but making silly errors like that at his age is a tad worrying. Besides if we got him we'd need to think about replacing him within 4-5 years if that. Coentrao would be a more suitable buy IMO.

4.) 16 Nov 2013
Left wing is Januzaj worst position. I'd rather see Baines there linking with Kagawa as I think it would get the most out of two brilliant players. Baines will have at least 3 years at the top level and I agree with the sentiment that his set peices allow RVP to be in the box which is where he should be, he shouldn't be taking corners.

5.) 16 Nov 2013
Prodigal you've had some truly woeful posts lately. left wing is Januzaj's worst position?! Any time he's switched over to the right after starting on the left he isn't as pacy nor will he attack with the confidence he does with on the left. Baines isn't the quickest player anyway, and that won't change in the coming 3 years. Rooney and RvP can both deliver balls from set pieces, and attack them. After all only a few weeks back, we'd only scored one goal from open play. set pieces aren't the problem.

6.) 16 Nov 2013
Januzaj is wasted in the left where he's an outside winger, he needs to cut inside from the right and create, or even better play as a 10. It's not about judging his one or 2 performances, it's about looking at him as a player and realizing where he would be best. Baines and Kagawa would open up the flank with their link up, not our previous standard over lapping runs.

7.) 16 Nov 2013
Players like Januzaj should not be pigeon holed into just the one position. He is effective for us in a number of positions and should be viewed as an adaptable player.

8.) 16 Nov 2013
Agreed Stein for now, but I don't want us to be bedding him in on the left side long term purely because we are struggling there in the short term.

9.) 17 Nov 2013
Kagawa is not even nearly good enough to play on the left wing for United, he's to light weight and gets caught on the ball far to much for my liking and he doesn't provide much defensive cover for the full back either.

10.) 17 Nov 2013
Powell to Everton as part of the deal?. what's the feeling now comrades?

11.) 17 Nov 2013
Don't know how you can say Kagawa is not nearly good enough. A front four of Januzaj, Kagawa, Rooney and Van Persie would scare teams. We dearly need to get the center of the park sorted out to compliment them though.

12.) 17 Nov 2013
I hope Powell stays at utd, I think he has a bright future

13.) 17 Nov 2013
Think cheshire cat is joking, Powell is going to be class.

14.) 17 Nov 2013
Powell should stay, but I definitely don't see him as a central midfielder, more of an inside forward or false 9. Maybe he could play behind the striker as a 10 but it's not where i'd like him to play. Will be very good anyway.

Yes redyank I agree with a 2 attacking midfielders behind kagaws and janu would be awesome
