If Bayern Munich go out and snap vidal up now that martinez is injured that will really grind my gears

{Ed002's Note - They have previously bid for him as a replacement for TK.}

Bayern Munich will sign song for barcelona

2.) 14 Aug 2014
Juventus coach has just said vidal is staying so think these rumours can go away at last

3.) 14 Aug 2014
Hey eds, nothing on United's bid on Vidal? Have juventus accepted it? or flat out refused to negotiate? Could you happen to share what's currently happening?

{Ed002's Note - RTFP.}

I personally don't beleive that we will sign anyone. Mr Woodward has talked the talk to sell season tickets, if we were going to do business surely we would not have left it this late.

Haha brilliant, the finger one is best.
I'm sick of vidals name too, I've got an obsession with it like sniejder and fabregas in the last few windows, the sooner they buy vidal or the window shuts the better! Lol

I've had enough now, anticipation building up false hopes yet again. It's not as if we've dreamt this stuff up but club, ex players and media create a frenzy. We've been on the brink of Martinez, modric, bale, ronaldo, sneijder, vidal, Fabregas, kroos, ozil, Sanchez, Rossi, Barca dude that went to Bayern and schweinsteiger to name a few. Big worry for me is our inability to land overseas big name players in last 10+ years. Domestic players seem to have more desire to join, mata, van persie, berba plus a host of English players but we seem to constantly miss out. Veron is the last big name established player I can think of (might be a lesson there). I'm going to lower the bar now in that I can't see much else happening, anything that does is a bonus.

Jiameuk - two things mate.

Firstly, most of the players you listed are players we never even bid for, they were nothing but made up rumours to sell papers.

Secondly, it's not just the last 10 years. I've been a Utd supporter for about 25 years now, and in that time Utd have never been into the big-name "marquee signing". It just isn't the way Utd do things.

You really shouldn't expect that kind of player if you support Utd, because it's probably not going to happen.

And before anyone starts, it's nothing to do with the current owners, it was the same before them.

To be fair Ed, and I did just read all the other posts, you said we made a bid, but haven't said what happened to it. Is this because you don't know, or because Juve are still considering it?

{Ed002's Note - This was done to death - Juventus made it clear that Vidal would need to request a move before they would consider either of the bids.}

Ed002, I only recall you saying we've bid for vidal. Nothing on whether the negotiating or rejected our bid.

Apologies if you have covered this but I haven't seen it

Disagree Thorne, I think we have enquired about most of the above players but we're not encouraged to pursue and we have tried in past: fat ronaldo, ronaldino, kaka, del Piero, Kluivert, Batistuta and Nedved have all said how they nearly joined us. We just don't have the pull on the elite players outside our domestic league or we're not showing enough aggression when pursuing them as Citeh and Chelsea seem to get by. Before people start kicking off about the money they've spent, it's just a case in point of what is required in the modern game to compete and I'm sure we all want to do that.

13.) 15 Aug 2014
Rooney, Rio, Veron, Van Nistelrooy, Keane, Cole probably more - all marquee signings that would have walked into any team at the time. Since then, maybe RVP.

14.) 15 Aug 2014
Don't get me wrong, I'm nit saying Utd don't ever go for big name players, but while we make enquiries and so on, we are rarely willing to meet the asking prife. It's not that we can't attract them, but we aren't willing to pay the price usually.

Yes there have been exceptions (although I'd disagree about most those listed by The Beast being "marquee signings") but we generally prefer to buy good players and make them great, rather than buying the finished article.

Rooney, Rio, Keane, RVN where all bought before they reached their best, and developed into top players here.

Veron was a true "marquee signing" although he didn't work out, and RVP was too, although we got him at a relatively low price for such a good striker in his peak, and if Arsenal had been in a stronger position to hold out for a bigger fee I doubt we would have gone through with it.

I'd also include Mata, big name, big money.

Just compare our signings over the years to Real Madrid. They generally buy players already at the top of their game or close to it, and yet they've won less over the last 20 year's than us, despite having less real competition domestically. That's why I prefer our way.
