Just a quick question for whatever Ed know's or is free. There is a bit of speculation about Ronaldo coming back, now I have massive respect for him and everything he did for us, but I'm hoping you can tell me we have no interest in him. I just don't see the point in looking back and would rather we go for an exciting prospect etc. so yer, if anyone could clear up the situation I'd be grateful. many thanks.

{Ed002's Note - PSG will continue to push for a move. Price and the desire of the player will be the deciding factors. I cannot tell you what the player himself wants but I can say that his agent, who is keen to rebuild a rather battered relationship with Real Madrid says Ronaldo will not be leaving. This of course then puts the onus on Real Madrid to instigate any move. They will be aware what they could sell him for next summer and they will be aware that there is a potential buyer in PSG. But they will fear that, if he stays, in a couple of years time or so a move to the MLS with one of three teams will be financially viable for the player and a sting to the club.}

But we would be in the running no?

{Ed002's Note - Why? MU has not indicated they are interested in him.}

I think LVG just did.

{Ed002's Note - Perhaps they should speak to his agent or to Real Madrid then - because they haven't done so at this time.}

he said he doesn't want to move to the MLS ed, on the Jonathan Ross show.

{Ed002's Note - And did he ever say he would never leave Manchester United? You are naive if you are being guided by such matters. The club has a manager leaving in 18 months, if the club wish to move backwards rather than ahead and have vast sums of money to spend on a player in his 30s, fine.}

Aren't United in a financial position where money isn't really an issue much? Obviously no-one can afford to go buying 4-5 players at that price every season, but I was under the impression that United could afford to drop 80-100m on a player without affecting their ability to make a few "normal" 20-40m type purchases at the same time.

I was told that the main bar to our signings recently has been our targets not wanting to leave, or wanting to go to a particular club.

{Ed002's Note - There is no point in discussing finances here - it always confuses everyone.}

My point being that if that is the case, Ronaldos price tag shouldn't be an issue. As long as we can still buy a couple of other good players to strengthen the squad overall, I don't see a problem with giving Real their money back to bring back a guy who is arguably the best player in the world (certainly in the top 3), and scores goals for fun. I'd rather get Bale personally, as he's younger but would still make a great right winger for us, but Ronaldo would still make an outstanding option in the short term.

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea why you are discussing money. If Manchester United were interested in buying Ronaldo they need to speak to his club (which they have not) or his agent, who is in England for a couple of days about another player. His agent has made it clear that two clubs have discussed Ronaldo with him only. And neither is Manchester United.}
