Once on City's books, I would say he has the potential to be great but not sure he's there just yet. Fills our need though of an extra full back on the cheap though.

There has to be questions as to why we haven't addressed the areas we needed to either in summer or in the more difficult January window.

It is difficult to see the positives at the moment and from where some of us older supporters are sitting we have made the same mistakes we did in 1970 and Liverpool did from 1990. Denial and what appears to be apathy is where we appear to be right now and the next decisions by the board are crucial as to whether we compete with Spurs let alone City.

The fact we haven't spent in January, added to a meagre NET spend last summer plus the reported cost cutting exercise suggests they may be trying to improve our financial numbers ahead of a sale.

Every window there are noises about how powerful we are and can buy who we want. It deflects supporters from the real issues, which if you look carefully go beyond the manager.

We had the fourth highest NET spend this season even after the January window. We had the second highest NET spend last summer, only beaten by City. Although we out spent them, we recouped more back through sales.

So I don't think we can complain about the amount of money spent this season. Over the last few years we can ask whether we have bought wisely.

Fellaini, Di Maria, Schweinsteiger all fall in the not so good category imo.

Mata, Depay, Rojo and Darmian all fall in the something to prove category.

With Blind, Herrera, Shaw, Schneiderlin and Martial all being successes imo.

So a bit of everything really, which is probably the same for every club in the world when you analyse their transfers.
