I have no doubt that if Giggs was to take over, then SAF would be helping him.

I still think it would be a very poor appointment. As I have said time and time again, there is no room for sentiment in business.

Fresh,
Interesting post. However, a) if Giggs was given the job I would expect him to do it his own way and b) I believe there is room for sentiment in business, especially in terms of loyalty, dedication and quality prolonged service.
Having said that I doubt very much Giggs will get the job. Let's face it, Jose is taking over at the end of the season, worst kept secret in football.

Giggs would be a worse appointment than Moyes, Sir Alex had his chance to pick a successor. He failed pretty badly. Giggs is picking someone on sentiment. Albert the kit man has been at the club longer than Giggs and has been just as loyal and a bigger presence behind the scenes. Should we name him manager? Or Doris the tea lady?

Giggs was a great footballer, but few great footballers go on to become great managers. Roy Keane was the embodiment of Sir Alex out on the pitch yet has failed time and again as a manager.

If Giggs is good enough let him go and prove it with a smaller club. If he proves himself then I'm sure he won't turn down the chance to come back to United in 4-5 years time when he has shown himself to be a great manager.

Agreed. Jose is marmite. I've been on both sides of the fence. But he is a winner. What is giggs. What has he proved as a manager. Its no good waiting for the job whilst your mates knife the current manager in the press (2 managers now)

By all means let Giggs manage us. After he has cut his teeth in the lower leagues, gain promotion every year and get his lower placed club into the premiership. Giggs is not the answer, who his going to attract player wise, what happens if we finish lower than 6th with him in charge, what happens to sentiment then.
It's got to be Jose not everyone's cup of tea I know, but the facts are there for all to see, the guy wins things were ever he goes . Van gal has taken us back 30 years . My only fear is that the stubborn git Woodward will let him have another season with us, just to try and prove a point to himself that he can pick top quality managers. however in van gals case he got it totally wrong.
Jose all the way for me.

For me, Giggs should either go manage a smaller team or go manage the youngsters and bring through some players.

Give Jose the job for 2 years and bring back that winning mentality.
