According to many (internet) sources, Mata and Januzaj are "to leave". There may be some truth in there, any info from the Eds?

{Ed004's Note - I think Januzaj is set to leave (loan or permanent - not sure), however Mata will most likely leave}

Before this window, i wanted to keep Mata. i like him as a bloke and a player! `But given the new signings and their style of play, he doesn't seem to fit in as well now and the opportunities to sign new players in the forthcoming windows will leave him on the bench.

he should move to Serie A, its made for him there!

Thanks Ed. It would be a shame to see Mata go when he eventually does, he's a solid player, only a couple yards of pace short of being a great, I'm sure most wish him all the best as he deserves to be in a team where he plays every week.

{Ed004's Note - Meant to say he's most likely staying sorry. Hopefully he replaces Rooney in the team over the course of the season}

Ed004 did you meant to type Mata most likely not leave?

{Ed004's Note - Yes I did. Should've read over it before posting}

If Mourinho plays 4-3-3 which suits Pogba the best then I can see Mata in the midfield 3. Alongside Pogba and Herrera / Schneiderlin.
If 4-2-3-1 then Mata replaces Rooney.

I'd put Mata in there in place of Rooney at times but I don't think we can afford to start Zlatan, Rooney and Mata in the same XI. We'd be painfully slow.

Mata I would like to stay and fight out the 10 role with Miki who can also play right or left. I think we have to wait for Jose to lose patience with Rooney or Rooney has got to start delivering good performances which ever comes first.

If there is no10 kind of formation. I will prefer Mata any day over Rooney.

mata is another kagawa done nothing to prove he should be starting .
had chances last season @10 when rooney was injured and was really poor . looked better out wide .
not surprised he struggling to get in the team to be honest, jose knows what he is doing .

i hope jose picks the best players, never get all this i hope x player is dropped or y player is sold .

in jose we trust (unless its something ee don't agree with )

so u agree jred that rooney shouldn't be picked bcz he definitely isn't near our best players, i knew even u would see the light someday ;-)

i go with flow, you might think you know better than jose lvg and co .
im wise enough to know i don't .
jose will pick the best team based on ability, training ground tactics and the opposition, as well as other thinks .

i support united, i want the team to do well not induvidual players .

jred this is a banter site, if we all go with manager knows best then i don't see the reason of having a banter site, as manager knows the best so no use discussing anything, all rooney supporters blame lvg for bad football, bad signings, playing players out of position, but with rooney, lvg knows best i guess.

13.) 11 Aug 2016
11 Aug 2016 18:08:24
so do you know better?
we have a great attacking unit, a bit of everything in there can't wait for the season to start.
different options and tactics hope they all do well

dont get united supports who just slag there players off.
season hasn't even kicked off.
i honestly think some would like players and united to have a bad game so they can say i told you so.

rodio
if there is no 10 role i don't think either will fit in.

jred whatever u think is your opinion and u are entitled to it, my first was a joke which why the wink emoji, but i don't think there is a tactic in the world that uses lack of pace combined with bad first touch and bad positional play as a template for success.

it is about opinions and i don't think rooney is any where near as bad as you make out .
if he is, why is he england and united captain .
why did lvg pick him jose (so far) and woy.
is there a chance your a bit of the mark

we look to have a really good team this year, i can't wait untill the season kicks of, i hope we play well who ever is on the pitch .
i just don't get united supporters slagging the players before a ball has been kicked .

{Ed041's Note - Rooney is nowhere near as good as he used to be. This is down to him. But the level he is held to compared to other who have done nowhere near as much for United is a joke. Watch the Rio meets Rooney interview. I thought he came across very well.

Unfortunately have to disagree. Out of our starting eleven he is possibly our biggest weak link. He's a forward who doesn't score or really create anymore (bar the odd penalty, take them away and it looks horrendous), he is sloppy in possession and I don't see what he offers. Our GK - world class, Valencia and Shaw are solid enough although Valencia may again prove suspect against a good winger, Bailly looks very promising, Smalling was overall good enough last season and has good speed, height and strength, pogba we will see, Herrera for me is under rated and under used, martial had a good first season and zlatan and Mikki come with good records elsewhere so hopefully they provide.

I think our fans really overrate Herrera. He's played tens of matches and does next to nothing in most of them, yet everyone says he needs "more chances" etc. Don't get it tbh. I'd be selling him before I sell Mata.

ed041 rooney is rightly compared to people he replaces in the team, he isn't a better striker than zlatan or rashford, he isn't a better no 10 than mata or mkhitaryan, and nor is he a better mf than herrera, schneiderlin or pogba. His stats are what he was not what he is, rooney supporters want him judged on those rather than his recent performances, but shouldn't he be judged on his ability today rather than his ability few years ago. Yes he is the second highest goalscorer in history of utd, but is he capable of being the 2nd highest goalscorer in the current team this season, sadly i don't think so.

{Ed041's Note - I didn't say he was better than those you have mentioned. I was pointing out how I thought his standards seems to set a lot higher than others. Do we know he's not better than Zlatan or Mkhitaryan? We all thought Di Maria was amazing then half way through the season saw Ashley Young and Mata playing infront of him.

22.) 12 Aug 2016
12 Aug 2016 15:48:21
I can't predict future ed, but analysing the last season or seasons isn't difficult, zlatan has a great first touch and good ability on the ball something rooney lacks. If a comparison is to be made di Maria is the best comparison to zlatan, anonymous from time to time but he will produce a moment of genius to win us games, again something rooney has mostly forgotten, i can't remember anything of note last season other than his effort to get us that equaliser in the final, that is not good enough for a guy on 300k.

Mkhitaryan has better vision and ability on the ball and a lot more pace than rooney, only place where rooney is better is his finishing as mkhi is pretty poor at it whatever the stats might say.

Di maria would have got us top 4 last season, he is exactly the sort of player one needs to unlock defenses which was our issue last season, he wasn't poor for us as people suggest, iirc he got more assist than anyone else even if playing lesser games, his sale was more down to lvg and add to that his wanting psg.

{Ed041's Note - again im not suggesting either is not better and imo Rooney shouldnt start all im saying is people seem to judge Rooney totally different to other united players and pick up on any mistake he make whereas other get a pass

23.) 12 Aug 2016
12 Aug 2016 17:08:45
he was the second higest scorer last season .
herrera schniders and mata where no better .
ed is bang on.

24.) 12 Aug 2016
12 Aug 2016 17:29:51
ed he is judged differently bcz he seems to be treated differently, herrera plays badly he is dropped same with mata or schneiderlin, with rooney it is when fit he plays, his performances don't matter like everybody else's and he is the highest paid premier league player, if u get paid highest u are expected to perform at the similar level too.

{Ed041's Note - what he gets paid is irrelevant imo, he plays because up until this summer we had no other options. I expect he will be finding out now if he doesn't perform he won't play.

25.) 12 Aug 2016

why do you care what rooney gets paid?
its not our money like everyone said when we bought pogba.

also you have just posted on the banter page
". who knows or cares, we got the player we wanted, woodward would not have sanction it if we thought it was excessive. "

the ed has summed up what I've been saying for a while now.

26.) 13 Aug 2016
13 Aug 2016 04:36:50
We can all hope that will be case ed, jred u do love quoting people don't u, what i said was in relation to issues that led to madrid backing off and us agreeing with juve on the same not on what he is paid, we know what we paid for him and i will judge him on that, if u are a world record buy u need to perform like one too.

Jred again rooney is treated differently but then so is every one, reaction to rojo costing us a goal and smalling or blind costing us a goal will be different, one has been consistently bad so will get panned a bit more while the other 2 are mostly decent so wll get less slack. It is not bias it is simply a sort of goodwill from your previous performance and rooney has used most of his in last 3-4 seasons, rooney has been poor but still gets preferential treatment which others while bieng less worse don't.

27.) 13 Aug 2016

thats in your opinion.
in others maybe its not preferential treatment and he is just a better option than mata or herrera for example .
maybe your just wrong and the managers are right .
as the ed has said, while being below par he has still been a better option (even if u can't accept that ) .
you don't just drop a player, the player coming in has to be a better option
he, like every other player will have to play well this season tho to get a start .

so pogba is now the most expensive player in the world and that's how you wil judge him?
so if he isn't better than messi and co you will be saying he had a bad game. let's see how long that last.
