Ed001,
any chance you can help us with our January transfer targets?
What positions and players are we looking for?
Any chance we are looking for a forward too?
Please reply if you have time.

{Ed001's Note - off the top of my head, Guedes and Van Dijk are the two targets I have heard of. Winger and left sided centre back I would deduce are the priority from that.}

Thanks Ed001 :)
I was hoping Vardy is one of our targets. I feel he is what we really need right now.

{Ed001's Note - not that I am aware of.}

Have a great day.

{Ed001's Note - you are very welcome mate, take care.}

Opinions on van dijk ed?

The few times I've seen him he's looked decent but i don't know if that's because he has fonte next to him leading the back 4.

Or if he's able to make the step up from southampton to man utd even though current league positions doesn't suggest he has much stepping up to do.

{Ed001's Note - not my cup of tea mate. Most of the time when they concede a goal he is stood wildly out of position watching the play unfold, making no attempt to get back in. Technically and physically he is immense, but mentally he is too laid back and doesn't have that desire to throw himself in the way of things that you really need in the Prem.

He reminds me of Rio on a bad day, strolling round and not concentrating enough. Fonte is covering for him and even carrying him to an extent, in my opinion. I just don't see any chance of him ever getting that fire in his belly he needs to be truly top class, like Alderweireld, for instance, in the Prem.}

Rashford is a winger Stretford. So theoretically he is being played in his correct position.

Rashford was a winger/ wide forward during large spells of his youth football but had actually started playing as a striker before his first team debut and showed a lot of promise there. He played most of his games last season in the first team as a striker and has scored more goals for us since his debut than any other player.

The lad is a striker, and should be playing as one as often as we can allow.

My team is a league 1 side (shall remain nameless) and I have no real ongoing soft spots for any Prem side to be honest.

I do though like to be entertained so I tend to continually watch/ follow/ or wish well to the sides each year that are entertaining. Whilst your team is definitely not one of those so far this season, and again I'm not going to name any that I think are as I don't want to entice backlash and they are relatively obvious to the average observer anyway, I do believe you have the players in your squad to be so.

So I get a little frustrated when I see fans write about the need to bring in more resources instead of thinking or commenting more about how the club is going to make better use of the decent resources it has today.

As a parallel example: if the trains are not running because the signalmen are not doing their job well putting more trains on the rails is only going to compound the issue.

@BurstTheBubble

Vardy is a completely different striker to Ibra.
A more logical version of your example would be: if trains are not running because of the signalmen (Ibra), you try and take the bus (Vardy) .

Rashford alone won't be enough to get us back. We need someone as Ibra and Rooney both are off form. Vardy has got pace and is clinical and experienced. Which is why I felt we should try to sign him.

Also, we lost falcao, RVP, Welbeck and Hernandez in the last 2 seasons. And we have only signed Martial and Ibra to replace them. We do need one more forward IMO.

Angelred I completely disagree with you, yeh I'm aware he was brought up playing as a winger but he he is utilised to his best playing as a striker not as a winger as proven already, Paul scholes was a striker for the youth set up, Gary Neville a centre back, David beckham in central midfield but that's not where they were most effective and ended up playing when they were first team regulars.

Vardy is also having a bit of a mare this season and it seems his talent was compounded by playing in a system that suited him. This season, playing alongside Slimani or as a lone striker, he's looked lost and drifted out wide more than being direct. His finishing seems to have dropped off a cliff, likely due to a decline in confidence, but still not exactly what we need. Rashford has outscored him this season playing in a wider role, so I don't see what Vardy brings that Rashford doesn't already possess. In Rashford and Martial we have two very talented, pacy and direct players who are still incredibly young. We looked better when Rash went up front with Ibra last week and I'd be inclined to try that for a whole game before looking to Vardy.

Zaid - in my example they are both train! Different trains granted but both trains regardless. The signalmen are those (or maybe the special ONE) in control!

My point is - and it was not about Vardy who is OK but not brilliant IMO - you already have a group of players that could compete with the best in the league and be perhaps the best in the league if they were organised to do so.

Sort the organisation out first before getting more in to a disorganised or poorly organised tactically situation. Seems a a certain German guy just about 30 miles west on the M62 seems to be doing so with largely a group of arguably less talented (or at least as well known and expensive) resources many of who he inherited last season. Your guys, on the other hand, have already spend tons right?!

@BurstTheBubble

I agree with your point that we should look at finding the right combination.

But my point was not about spending a fortune again. It's just about plugging the gaps now. If it was about spending huge sums again, I would have said we should sign Griezmann or Kane or Lukaku.
I suggested Vardy because he will be cheaper and realistic, and someone who can help us get into top 4 which we are currently struggling to achieve.

My point is that the "gaps" are not in the resources but in the approach, style, tactics. Needs a bit of man management and motivational support!

@BurstTheBubble
It's not about the style approach or tactics.
Three managers wouldn't fail to rectify that.
Especially LVG and now Mourinho.
The fact is that LVG bought poorly and sold poorly. Mourinho has bought decent players but there's need for more quality now. When that's done, the same manager with the same approach and tactics will have United playing well.
