Hi ED002, Sorry to keep pestering but is there any possibility of some juicy summer transfer details? Thank you.

{Ed002's Note - I don't rteally think much has changed at the moment and the club will look to to prioritise. Previously a DM would have been a target, but a new contract for Matic has delayed the immediate need. A versatile left sided CM/AM (ideally Jack Grealish is still wanted). There is interest in the future with interest in Jude Bellingham remaining and Joe Hugill being taken as an option to Gelhardt. The club need to decide what to do about adding a striker with Odion Ighalo being the low cost option. There are other youngsters the club have an interest in and could still look to cherry-pick like Ricky-Jade Jones and Kalvin Phillips.

Right now the big driver remains whether or not it will become possible to complete the season (I still think it unlikely) and, if not, how the season will be finished. Then it becomes much clearer what clubs will be able to do, who will be in the Champions League and who will be in the Europa League and how that affects transfers.}

Thank you very much Ed002, any news very much appreciated. Hope you and those close to you are staying well and finding positives in these strange times.

{Ed002's Note - And you Wallace.}

Thanks Ed! Are there any updates on our RW options?

{Ed002's Note - Federico Chiesa (RW/F) is available much more affordable than Sancho for Manchester United and of prior interest, but Inter remain keen although talks are now on hold. Fiorentina are willing to sell in the summer. Should it happen at some point, he would be a direct replacement, has similar attributes to Salah, is liked by Klopp and, although Liverpool have shown no interest, he will be sold in the summer. As far as I am aware, Liverpool have still not made any approach to Fiorentina for Federico Chiesa. However interest in him from elsewhere remains and it is still the intent if Inter to push for a move for him as soon as they can. And that is the move the player has wanted. Sarri desired the player when at Napoli and he wants to improve his options at Juventus but it would mean moving on both Douglas Costa and Bernardeshi first - although they are trying. Napoli is in turmoil and unattractive to players whilst they get their act together. Prior interest of Milan and Roma has gone due to the asking price.}

Chiesa would be a wonderful signing. One of the few proper out and out right wingers in the game. It should be a no brainer between him and Sancho if the sums for Sancho are to be believed.

With AWB at right back and Chiesa at right wing, that could be the right side done for a long time.

Sancho looks the better player imo would be better suited to England and the EPL as well.

The money for Sancho is obscene, even in football's terms. If Chiesa can be done this summer and for a good price then I think we should pull the trigger.

I agree that sancho is the better player with a higher ceiling and will proably adapt quicker.
If the cost of sancho is prohibitive then so be it we have to look at other alternatives.
If the player wants inter them it will probably happen.
Its a position that needs strengthening but a lot will depend on cl qualification and with so much uncertainty around i'm not expecting too much this summer.

Thanks for the updates ED! I'm undecided on Chiesa but I think he's a better option than Sancho. Sancho will not be worth the money demanded and I'm not sure he'll be as good for us as people think. His stats are incredible in a very strong team coming up against some not so good defenders. I would ideally prefer a left footer right winger who can cut inside. I still think Greenwood can be effective in scoring from the right hand side, but we do really need a player who can hog the right hand side, which we've been missing for so long. I'd be happy to take a Bale, Costa, Bernadeschi if possible involved in some sort of swap for Pogba and alternate them with greenwood. Chiesa, Sarr or Traore would be the best options right now if we're looking for a long term player.

{Ed002's Note - Bale and Costa are certainly available but we will see what happens.}

Everyone is always saying we need to buy the best option have ambition.

Now it seems it all about value for money .

Im not sure that's what people are saying. I thin k you said the same thing yourself last week.
That the landscape has changed and because if that it will be harder to get the most expensive players unless their value drops significantly. The money may not be available.

Sancho is clearly the better option in terms of footballing ability currently. And for that reason is obviously the first choice.

However, we would need to have our heads in the clouds not to appreciate that there is an upper limit which the club needs to have for every transfer. Apparently the Sancho deal is in the region of 200m when considering transfer fee, wages, agents fees etc. Now that was before C.V., and fees will be impacted.

If Dortmund or his agents won't accept fees at or below the maximum amount we are prepared to pay then we have to walk away. Just as Chelsea have done.

While we are also assuming that Sancho would definitely come to us. He has said he won't move somewhere without UCL football, so there is a chance that this deal might not happen if we don't qualify as well.

In the event that Sancho won't sign or his price tag is higher than the club is prepared to play then we need another target to move on to.

Federico Chiesa by all accounts is an excellent young player who could be a great alternative to Sancho.

Ken
Eh? Ken read above people are saying sancho isn't worth the money and the money is obscene and he won't be worth the money .
Or " it should be a no brainer between chiesa or sancho if the sums for sancho are true "

Also the landscape has changed and transfer values imo will be part of that . If united want and can afford sancho I hope they go for him.
Shappy
If a club and agent won't accept a fee that we are willing to pay for a player we will obviously not buy that player.

If we can get sancho i personal would take him every day of the week over chiesa.

I agree jred that would be my choice also to get sancho. But if the numbers are not workable from our point of view i would look for an alternative.
Mumbles doesn't think he is worth the money being asked, valid opinion and slunky feels that sancho is not the best option again a valid opinion.
Im not sure anybody is saying buy sancho at all costs but i think most would agree that if he is affordable them he would be the best option. some don't think so which is their prerogative.
Ed002 said the deal is upwards of 200m it seems to be very expensive. His agent has demanded a fee in the region of 50m and unless he reduces his ask substantially then i'd say the deal is dead in the water sadly. I can't see us paying the agent that sum ire anything close to it.
He won't sign unless we have cl football according to reports either if that's the case it doesn't bode well.
Id really like him but if the numbers don't work them we will have to look elsewhere.

Ken
If the numbers are not workable for a player we won't buy him .
But if the club can do I deal what's the problem?
Mumbles also said on the banter page united won't pay what it takes to get back to the top, so which is it.
As you said mumbles doesn't think he is worth the money.
If people don't think sancho is any good that's there opinion, if slinky would rather bale ( I would take sancho over bale everyday of the week ) that's his opinion.
But the cost is always mentioned
So I'm not sure what your disagreeing with when I say "everyone is always saying we need to buy the best option have ambition.

Now it seems it all about value for money"

I would prefer we bought hungry players around the age of 23 to 25 so we gwr them for a few years at least at their peak. don't want players who are older ad a short term fix.

16.) 12 May 2020
12 May 2020 14:53:14
Im not arguing with you other than i'm not sure that its lots of people that are saying that.
As a club we have paid and will always pay over the odds for some players.
Its a fine balance of getting value and getting the right player.
In the past we only had to buy 1 or 2 players to compliment a great squad successful winning squad so paying over the odds for 1 big player was palatable but now the money has got so much bigger and we need 3 4 or 5 players to compete so busting the budget on 1 player will probably not have the desired affect. Liverpool are now at that point. They don't need as many players so can pay big money on 1. It will take a while to rebuild yet again.
So perhaps that's where people are coming from.
Personally i think we need 3 or 4 starters and if we buy sancho we won't get them as there is so much going on him. If we don't get the balance right i would have a concern that sancho would come but because of other deficiencies in the team that he won't be enough to move is forward.
A lot will depend on cl qualification which is by no means certain.
A lot will depend on budget for transfers
A lot will depend on getting others sold and freeing up space.
Matic looks set to stay
Pogba will he stay or go? This will have an impact in the budget for sure.
Rojo jones smalling lingard are likely to move on but I'm not sure they well generate big money so perhaps with the changing landscape we will Neff to be more creative and open to player swaps if its possible.
Like so much else in today's world so much is up in the air.

But nobody has said any of that above, certainly when I posted my op?
It was more a case of " If Chiesa can be done this summer and for a good price then I think we should pull the trigger "
Your agreeing and disagreeing at the same time . Its as bad as boris.

12 May 2020 17:23:20
As usual we're arguing on this site when we probably agree more than we disagree. I just want to clarify that if it were a straight pick between Sancho and Bale I'd obviously prefer Sancho. However, Pogba needs to go and by the sounds of things, swaps are the most viable option. I wouldn't mind a Costa/ Bale alternating with Greenwood and Chong (Hopefully he puts on some muscle over the lockdown) . Then in a year or two we can re-evaluate who we should or shouldn't splash the cash on. I do fear Sancho's stats, team and general hype might be misleading people on their judgement of him. There's no guarantee he adapts and continues his form, I just don't think it's worth the risk.

{Ed002's Note - The issue with Bale is his age and wages. His options are dwindling.}

Sancho would be my choice by Chiesa is a good alternative if the money isn't there.

21.) 12 May 2020
12 May 2020 22:04:28
Chiesa would be my choice too and I don't think Sancho is as good as people think he is and certainly not for 200 mill. I rather we go ge5 Chiesa and Nigues for 200 mill then splashing all of the money on Sancho. 😉😉.

22.) 12 May 2020
12 May 2020 22:19:23
To be honest I've only seen Chiesa in a couple of games and a few highlights and I've not been watching him intently. So I've no real opinion on him. He is exciting at times. Looks a good player.
There have not been too many hugely successful Italian imports into the epl, i'm not sure why that is. Like the English players they tend to stay at home more often than not.

Exactly I'm far from convinced but he is a fancy name and that's what dome people like . Whereas sancho is English, before you disagree just keep an eye out thd same people will say thd samd things .

So if your only disagree with the word loads change it to a few . Althought there is a similar thread on the page 2 below.

Only Ronaldo, Mbappe, Neymar, Salah, Mane and Messi shpuld be going for anywhere near 150 mill plus. Anyone else should not be anywhere that amount.
