Hello Ed02 isit fair to say that United are the only club willing to negotiate a deal for Sancho to move this window? If not who else might be willing to enter the fray?

{Ed002's Note - There are other interested sides and his agent has offered a reduced agent fee to two of the sides but they have no interest at the overall cost. It is simply too expensive.}

Thank you Ed. United seem pretty eager to get this one done, I just thought the longer it drags out if there is no competition from other clubs might strengthen United hand in negotiating.

{Ed002's Note - No.}

Ed002, is there a reason that his agent has offered a reduced fee to the 2 other sides? I'm guessing he wants us to pay the full agents fee?

{Ed002's Note - I don't know what he has said to Manchester United but Sancho's original preference was to join one of the other sides. But they were not interested at the overall cost of the transfer.}

Ok, thanks ed002.

Was his preference Liverpool?

{Ed001's Note - Chelsea, he is a Chelsea fan and wanted to be back in the London area.}

ed001- if that's the case walk away- we really shouldn't go down the route of overpaying for players, put them on ridiculous wages when they would rather be elsewhere.
This scenerio is becoming so regular with (as Ed002 puts it) the amateurs.
Granted the lad is an excellent player but there are alternatives as suggested, bernadeschi, chiesa, coman to name a few. Still its early in the window and theres2 month before the powers that be pay the money, strut their stuff and pretend they are the worlds best negotiators eh?

{Ed001's Note - I think the key reason for wanting him, apart from him being a big name for sponsors etc, is that he is homegrown.}

Ed, what are your thoughts on Sancho as a player? One of the best young players across Europe? What are his main strengths and areas of development?

{Ed002's Note - There is no doubt he is a very good player but there are others out there who are very good as well. Right now it is hard to justify what he would bring in terms of additionality compared to other very good players given the huge cost.

ed001 - totally understand what you're saying : just think its about time the club grew up and became more professional in their approach to transfers. referring to ed002 comment below my post, i am positive they could solve a few issues ie, chiesa, gabriel, telles in for the money quoted for sancho. Obviously they don't fulfill the homegrown criteria but plenty others do white, maddison, chilwell, rice- granted a similar situation in that the later would cost more but still not in the bracket of sancho and if only 1 of them was brought in it fills the quota the same as sancho.
Never looked into the quotas regarding homegrown players etc so not a great amount known: if you could shed some light on it would be great. Thanks.

{Ed001's Note - I am with you in that regard, I was just explaining why the club are so keen on him. I am not that impressed with Sancho to be honest. As for homegrown players there is a limit on non-homegrown players you can have in your squad. While there is no requirement to have X amount of homegrown, it just means you are limited in numbers in the squad if you don't have at least (iirc) 7. I don't believe it to be an issue for United under the current regulations, but there was talk of decreasing the number of spaces allowed to non-homegrown players, so United might be preparing for that future. I just checked it is 8 spaces that can only be allocated to homegrown players. With a squad size limited to 25 over-21s, that means in effect you can have up to 17 non-homegrown. At least that was the ruling for 19/20 season, I am not sure if there are any changes for the forthcoming one.}

Great thread thanks for your respective inputs Ed001, Ed002 and the posters. Might I enquire as to whether one of the Ed’s know of any other high profile players that are/ have been represented by the same guy representing Sancho? Have some free time today and interested to look into his past dealings.

{Ed002's Note - Some younger Arsenal players but nobody high-profile.}

Chiesa now being touted to if Sancho bid fails. What’s your view on him Eds as a player? Can’t say I’ve seen much of him play.

{Ed001's Note - looks a good player, I would certainly look to him rather than Sancho personally.}

Ed001, Chiesa appears to be a lot cheaper than Sancho. Is he has good as Sanchi or is he better? Lastly does he have a better attitude than Sancho?

{Ed001's Note - it is hard to compare them, but Chiesa plays against better players and does well even when starting. Sancho only seems to really impress as a sub, against tired legs and some of the worst defending I have ever seen. So I would say he seems at least the equal. Attitude-wise, he has not been missing training etc but he is not living in a different country currently, so he is settled, whereas Sancho is clearly not fully settled in Germany, hence the desire to return to England.}

Without a shadow of a doubt Sancho is a very good player. But if he was Chinese I don't think we would consider him at the current price for a second. Which begs the question does him being English really equate to him being worth 30-50m more? Do the club really gain value from his passport?

If we were in the same situation say as Man City, who need to add homegrown players then I can see some value in that. But we have loads of homegrown players, and we have plenty under the age of 21 who will take up a place in the squad once they get to that age.

Currently we have Grant, Henderson, Joel Pereira, AWB, TFM, Maguire, Smalling, Jones, Tuanzebe, Shaw, McTominay, Pogba, Lingard, Andreas Pereira, James and Rashford who all qualify for "homegrown" and are over 21. That's 16, twice the number we need.

While we also have Williams, Laird, Mengi, Bernard, Garner, Levitt and Greenwood who could well end up being named in our homegrown quota when they reach 21. A further 7 players.

So I really don't see the need to sign a homegrown player this summer, and certainly not to massively over pay to bring in such a player.

So while Sancho is a great player, other options such as Adama Traore, Ismslia Sarr, Emi Buendia, Moussa Diaby or Federico Chiesa could all be pursued and they would all offer an new dynamic to our forward line.

While they might not be quite as disruptive to Greenwood's development as Sancho could be. Much easier to drop a 30 or 40m signing of Sarr or Chiesa in place of Greenwood than the 120m signing of Sancho.

There is a reality where missing out on Sancho works out better than signing him.

100 mil for sancho will turn out to be a good deal, the lads still only 20 and will be worth a lot more in the years to come .
Havertz will go for in the region of 90 Mill and no one will bat an eyelid .
Felix went for 110 again no big issues.

I don't understand people saying Sancho would distract Mason development but Chiesa, Adama or others would not?

Neither of them would be recruited to sit on the bench, and last few games showed how utd still lacks options and qulities on the bench.

The only problem with Sancho is the cost, potentially will add more qualities than those mentioned players, and clearly will improve the team.

Do you have any idea how many players don't get to go to what many percieve as their first choice but can still turn out and put a professional performance in on a weekly basis? Not everybody has to be in love with a club to play for it.

Do you think Chelsea fans are saying why did we buy Timo Warner when it was obvious he wanted Liverpool?

I have said this before what do you suppose will happen to any money not spent on transfers will the debt decrease or stadium improve? No it won't so why worry about what he cost?

I think he's a class player who has been brought up on the British game and is well versed on the speed of the league and despite the cost he should settle in much quicker then the other names mentioned seeing as he's already lived in the city and has friends already at the club. Although no transfer is guaranteed to work but with these things already in place can only help.

mnk397, you're right on the money. Pogba wanted to go to Spain but moved to United. Since his dream move fell though he has been nothing but a hard working and dedicated professional.

Im not sure if that's an attempt at sarcasm there or not but the players and the manager have done nothing but praise his professionalism but you think what you want.

I won't bother boring you with his goals and assits before this injury hit season. But the fact remains players are professionals and go on the pitch to win and Sancho would do just that.

There have been reports that Sancho has been late or on occasions even missed training at Dortmund.

If true then I think there is reason to question his professionalism.

23.) 06 Aug 2020
06 Aug 2020 10:46:42
To be fair he was keeping Pulisic out of the team over there in Dortmund, and he ain’t a bad player.

24.) 06 Aug 2020
06 Aug 2020 12:07:44
Pulisic was kept out because of injury and his unwillingness to sign a new deal.
There's a reason he got starts again after getting fit and they started struggling later on in the season. Ideally he would've started alongside Sancho, if circumstances had permitted that.

Ed02 Would Chelsea be looking at him this summer now that it looks Willian is leaving, I know they have money to burn but surely they couldn’t afford sancho aswell this year?

{Ed002's Note - There has been a push to get Chelsea to make an offer but the overall cost including agent fees etc. mean that Chelsea see him as way too expensive.}

Yes Havertz looks a better buy, be strange to see united go for Grealish later in the window for the same sort of money as Havertz although it looks like Chelsea have his full attention I guess. Thank you for your time.
