Several outlets suggesting we are in serious contention to sign Ruben Neves for cÂ£35m. Any insider info on this please. Or is it yet more media nonsense?

Donny is Pogbas replacement. Imo it will be money well spent, he will come good. I like neves and spending 40 million would be a good bit of business.

Neves would be a good signing. He tends to be mostly famed for the few spectacular goals he is capable of scoring but he's a decent mopper-upper too.
On Pogba/ VDB, there has always been the suggestion that Donny was snapped up when he became available on the likelihood that Pogba would be on his way out, which has felt likely in most of the last transfer windows. Not sure they are the same type of player but I guess they got wind he could be available for what was seen at the time as being a very reasonable price so took a punt. I was well pleased at the time.
He was bossing and dictating games for Ajax, but the step-up has thus far been too much, He is obviously still highly regarded, particularly by the Spanish teams who seem to retain their interest. Just can't say that I've seen even one game where he justified starting the next. I know about the 'needing to play to get confidence' cycle many players get caught in, but generally a player of his undoubted quality would have done something by now.

Donny just need games to show his worth. I felt a little embarrassed for him last year because a little run out with 5 minutes to go or the odd cup game with a second team isn't his level and he did show little signs . Give him decent playing time and the confidence and quality will shine through. Class is permanent and all that as they say.

I am really not sure if we are going to spend another 40m on a DM right now and we still haven't signed a CB which is seen as a bigger priority.

I do hope that Donny is Pogba's replacement but the way Ole treated him last season and the reports saying we are willing to loan/ sell him doesn't fill me with confidence.

If the rumoured switch to 433 formation is true, or we keep the current formation, sign a DM and give the second cm more freedom to get forward, I think we will see a very different Donny.

Spenno, how was he supposed to show anything when he's brought on with 5 minutes to go?
