I am hoping we bring in at least one winger this summer and don't focus solely on CM and the back four. We need at least one new winger who has pace and can beat his man. I used to love the days where our wingers would beat their man and get inside the box move the ball around rather than crossing unecessarily early (Ashley Young *cough*) and running to the byline and delivering a low ball (Valencia). I know these crossing techniques CAN work but we are in dire need of that winger that is more imaginative and influential on the wing rather than the same old predictable rubbish we have. Valencia should be kept but Young and Nani need to be out that exit door as soon as that window opens. We need a Reus, Griezmann, Di Maria or an El Sharawaay. Thoughts?

Joe the only problem with our wingers is the inconsistency.

Nani on his day is one of the most exciting wingers in the world to watch, yet mostly he is frustrating. Nani brings back memories of watching Lee Sharpe, a great player but was he really United standard? Adnan is equally exciting but only marginally more consistent yet has many more years ahead of him to improve this.

Young and Valencia are some of the hardest working wingers I have ever seen at United, but it s a shame that offensively they are very one dimensional.

Beckham was one of the most unimaginative wingers I have ever seen yet his ability to cross the ball was second to none, if Young had half his ability crossing the ball he wouldn't be chastised anywhere near as much.

Valencia, like Kanchelskis, was one of the best at beating his man but has always struggled at what to do next. Now he has lost a yard of pace he looks so out of depth at United. Yet is still the best of what we have.

A few wide men wouldn't be a bad set of additions to our squad to replace some we currently have. However with the potential change in formation and style I feel with the right CM/CAM purchases we won't need any, especially with Zaha coming back and Adnans contiued development.

The crossing from our wingers at united is horrendous at the minute, ashley young one time set piece expert for villa now has a competition with himself every time he plays to see how far he can over hit crosses by, nani at the ripe old age of 27 still can't manage to beat the first man with a corner kick, antonio valencia who some pundits claim is a good crosser never fails to play the ball behind everybody and usually at waist hight aswell so nobody can do a thing with it, give him his due though that low drilled cross at 100 mph comes off at least once in 100 attempts so that's progress. only one who can cross is januzaj but his future isn't out wide I wouldn't think. I was watching a few old matches the other day as it goes and watching david beckham in his pomp putting balls not just in the danger area but right on the money more often than not makes it even more painfull to watch this current crop at the moment.

Joe r u 4 real? r cm issues is the cause 4 most of r problems ie slow build up play and givin opposition time and possession to hurt r shakey defence

We need 2 wingers to be honest. No one ever get past his man on the left and we rarely get behind the right backs of any team. On the right Valencia has pace but is the worst crosser of the ball and has no left foot. All in all 2 wingers in the next 2 windows I would think.

We may already have our wingers for the future in Janusaj and Zaha, and it's a shame we didn't get to see more of them. I have to agree that the crop of wingers we have now are very inconsistent. Young, IMO, was never good enough and Valencia didn't really improve as much as we'd all hoped, but in his defence, he works as hard as anyone!
References to Kanchelskis and Sharpe are spot on, great one day, and hopeless the next, but in the 68 European cup final, our best player was Johnny Aston, another winger that rarely hit the heights expected.
Hopefully, with Janusaj and Zaha, and more pitch time for Powell, we have a nucleus of young players that deserve to be given a chance. Maybe then, we can concentrate on getting some experienced players in positions of need, defence and CM, and even a striker maybe?
