Patrice Evra has signed one year contract extension!

What does everybody think about this?
Hopefully just to provide cover for new left back, hopfully Shaw.
Where does this leave Buttner?

With the Kroos deal going from on the brink to completely off in the space of 24 hours, and now Evra signing a new deal, I can't help getting the feeling that it might be another summer of nearlys. Player using us to leverage his club, check. Past it player offered one year deal, check. All we need now is to pay an inflated fee for an average player who doesn't improve us and we're there.

If we bring in Shaw we have no need for Evra. He played in 35 of their league games last year, so unless Evra is being retained for cup games, I just don't see the point. The reality is that Evra won't want to be playing second fiddle in his last seasons at the club, and I'm not sure what he can teach Shaw.

The alternative is that we have stuffed up the Shaw deal, and that's a worrying thought.

Well we lost a lot of xp with Rio, Vidic an Giggs all going and he's a big popular character in the dressing room. as long as he is back up

I think he'll be used sparingly. Agree with Mort - we're losing a lot of experience in one go. No matter what people think of his defending, he knows what this club means, and he'll let any new boys know it too.

The proviso being of course, that he is used sparingly.

I really hope it means young Buttner going, rather than the alternative.

Well on the bright side, manchester united helps not only the players that play for manchester united but also players of other teams. Its so touching. How many players have got whopping paydays because of us is really heart warming.
Here is what I think happened with kroos. He never wanted to leave munich and just wanted a large salary increase. So he baited us. Bayern caught the bluff and told him that he could leave. This is probably why a figure of 20 million was quoted which was agreed between the two clubs. Now, he had to back off and hence his statement yesterday. I think he'll end up signing the contract closer to bayern's terms than his own

Could possibly be the worst signing we make this transfer window. I'll be gutted if this means we don't get shaw now, everyone knows we desperately needed a change at left back.

I wonder if Buttner is going to Southhampton as part if the deal? That why Evra signed for extra year, then you LB in under 21's getting promoted for season?

I have NO. Confidence in Woodward at all
