Hi eds and fellow supporters. I know we are all currently all over the transfer dealings of United which at the moment is exciting. Can I break away from it for a minute and ask eds and and fellow posters a question please.

I attended a function in Dublin last night and the legend that is Paul Mcgrath was guest speaker.

my question is and leaving out his off field troubles, how much do you think this legend would go for in today's market.

I know this is a banter page, but imo he's was one of the best. I just wanna hear what my fellow devils think

{Ed001's Note - I think he would be the first £50m defender, one of the best defenders I have ever seen play the game.}

Id agree with Ed, now that's a rolls royce defender.

Imagine if he'd never drank how good would he have been for us?

Sad story, he battled a lot of demons.

Notwithstanding their friendship Bryan Robson said he was the best player he ever payed with and he was also the best player he ever played against

There was him and Des Walker (pre Sampdoria days) that were a level above most defenders. £40/50 million in their prime.

I wouldn't put Des Walker in the same league as Paul McGrath , but in fairness I'm biased

{Ed001's Note - I loved Des Walker as a player too, but McGrath was a whole other level to anyone else in the English game at the time.}

Great player. When you think of rubbish like luiz going for 50 then this guy would have been Ronaldo money

Have you read his book Ed001. I am a massive Mcgrath fan. God he was something else to watch.

Rarely trained and was drunk most of the time, he himself admitting that on several occasions. But yet always head and shoulders above anyone on the pitch.

{Ed001's Note - I have never read it, I am not much of a fan of football autobiographies as they tend to be dross. Though I tend to get given a bunch of them every birthday and xmas so end up reading those one. I can't say I have ever read McGrath's though. I would actually be interested in that one.}
