Afternoon chaps

Been meaning to post this for an age but life keeps distracting me.

In the current squad I'm a little worried about the lack of role models for the younger players. More precisely in their respective positions.

As wingers who will teach the game to Memphis and lingard?
Who will teach martial the tricks of the trade?
Etc

I believe we are seeing improvements to smalling partly as a result of playing with rio and vidic for so long and now applying those in-game.
In the past we have always had quality experience players to help bed the youngsters in and mentor them.

I'm not saying we don't have any experienced players I just question whether the youth system is anywhere near as effective as it once was.

i think schweinsteiger is a role model invaluable for the kids.

If you're a winger, you only need to look at our assistant manager, Ryan giggs for advise etc. He was one of the best that played the game.
I do agree that our wingers are lacking though, but that could be due to the poor quality we have rather than the advise being given to them.

Bastian is an all round incredible role model, then we have our captain who despite his recent form is still looked up to massively by the rest of the players. As for wingers, our assistant manager is Ryan Giggs, don't think you could ask for much more than that.
Carrick, Smallig, Young, Valencia have also had plenty of experience at our club and I'm sure help out the youngsters a lot.

Schweinsteiger and Giggs in particular are the stand out names. Giggs is meant to be really helping Memphis to find his way.

You also have to include Rooney. Whether you like him or not he has done it all before and on paper will be our greatest ever goalscorer.

I dread to think what Wayne's teaching them :)

I see your point Jack but I have to say I think we have a few more experienced characters in and around the club than most. In terms of the players you have mentioned the great Ryan Giggs would be the ultimate role model for any winger looking to develop thier game.

Martial has Rooney to approach should he need advice which may be very beneficial to him as Rooney knows what it is like to hyped up as the next greatest thing at Old Trafford. On top of that we have players like Carrick and Bastian who have been around the block with CV's littered with trophies. As for Smalling I agree playing alongside Rio and Vida in their hay day would have been beneficial but it hasn't been until the past eight months or so he has really grown.

I would put this down to him working harder, taking on more responsibility and thriving without the pressures of worrying about competition for places. I think LVG has got the best out of him and for that I am glad.
