Nobody would even know about these players if the squad wasnt so thin, once the first teamers come back they will slide back into the youth team.
Whoever the manager is this season would have had to use these younger players, its not rocket science.

Completely agree moon.
the thing people have held against LVG is the style of play he has brought to the club and the results that have followed. For the last three games the 11 on the pitch have looked hungrier but many times this year a lot of the same players have served us with utter dross. At some stage we have to stop laying all of this on the managers shoulders. Many posters on here have been asking if all the youngsters would have played if we did not have so many injuries or got rid of half the squad over the last year and a half. Thinking of the players we sold / let go, I would play lingard rather than nani, mcnair instead of evans, varela for rafael, rashford or wilson rather than welbeck or even RVP and so would most of us. Or are we asking the manager to play these youngsters even when the senior players are fit? Can you imagine the meltdown if rashford started instead of rooney or martial if he were fit? youngsters get a regular chance if only if they are exceptionally talented or if members of the first team have injuries.
from the looks of it, LVG has been doing the right things behind the scenes with the academy and the training facilities. The reason we are all so upbeat by the results this week is not because we beat Shrewsbury, a danish team and arsenal when they had a bad day, is not as much the results themselves but the way we won the games. It reminded us what watching united felt like which has not been the case since 2009. fast play, hunger, players that have come through the ranks who are running their legs off - that's what makes our beloved club what it is. this week has shown us a glimpse of the identity we had forgotten and the manager must get some credit for it.
I would rather LVG see out his contract even if we don't make top 4 this season if I can see more performances like these this season and the next. Not many managers nowadays focus on youth and with the amount of money in the league, why should they? it is nice to have an old school manager who is unafraid to throw the kids in and stands up and says he is not surprised when they do well. For his many flaws, he is doing a lot right.

FZZ he could have chosen to keep the Nanis, Cleverleys, Rafaels etc of the world and they would be playing instead of the youngsters.

So he has indeed brought the youngsters closer to the 1st team. Credit where its due man.

Maybe that is the case

Actually I think some of the established players might struggle to re-established themselves in the team

United have always been about giving youth a chance, if they are proving it come end of the season, they surely carry on next season.

they have played 1 game some of them not even a full game .
if it wasnt for the amount of injuries they wouldn't be near the first team and 1 game won't change that .
they are all far more likely to get loan moves than break in to the first team next season .

@moonrinho. Finally a sane person. Everyone on here the past few weeks jumping on the sack van gaal bandwagon. Football fans have become so fickle. I must say I supported him all season but once I think after the Southampton defeat I did falter and thought it may be better if he left just simply because he didn't seem to be getting the most out of the players.
However I love lvg, I think he was brought in to be a strong figure who steadied the ship and I feel he has predominantly done that.
He has gotten rid of so much dead wood that was accumulated under Fergie, most on hugely inflated wages. He has tried to implement his method on the club and whilst they sometimes can seem not to have worked and people get frustrated, I really think his ideas are working, the first team players maybe don't seem to have had the hunger enough at times this season and that has been a problem.
The amount of youth reamers he has brought through so far is amazing, very proud for us and is a great credit to him. Fair enough most debuts may have come about through injury but how else do youths usually get opportunities at established clubs because there is so much pressure on instant results for united all the time.
This is bloody obvious but I really hope we get top 4, but a big reason I do is so lvg may be kept on, he was brought in to do a job for 3 years and give him the time and I really reckon the club will pay dividends for it.
Football has turned into such a short term sport its shameful.

Rosspique how can you say people have jumped on the 'sack LVG band wagon'?
Most who want him gone have been saying they want him gone for the last 12 to 18 months, I am one of those that would love to see the back of him.
We all have different views, some see the good he's doing with regards to the youth, some see that he's only used the youth because he has no choice right now because of injuries
LVG has rode his luck for 18 months IMO, he seems to have stumbled on a couple of great prospects this season but is that down to bad luck with injuries or is he a footballing genius?

Agree completely RP: LVG was brought into to rip the ageing/ stagnant team that Moyes inherited apart and lay the foundations for a new era. I can't really think of one player that he should've kept; they weren't playing well enough to retain a place in the squad - for whatever reason - regardless of how well they're playing now.

He's also strengthened the desperately inadequate midfield, though, in hindsight, he should've brought in at least one top quality CB and another attacker. However, maybe he felt that, given the emerging promise in the Under 21s, that wasn't needed.

So, as well as bringing through youngsters - which will surely make us a more attractive destination for prospects currently thinking about what top club to go to - and sweeping out the cobwebs and laying out a strong foundation ready for the next manager, he's also had terrible luck with injuries, so maybe he should be given some slack for that.

However, while I've wanted him to succeed, after Xmas, it seemed to me that he'd list the dressing room - the players just weren't playing for him. If this was true then he should've gone - and the "professionals" not earning their mega-wages should've been addressed also.

But the mini-run now seems to contradict this - unless it was a confidence issue all along and now the belief is back? Of course, if we lose tonight, then we fickle supporters will be calling for his head again but, if we can get top 4 and into s cup final, I wouldn't be too unhappy about him staying on, though I think he'd have fulfilled his initial brief by the summer and s new long term manager such as Allegri, Poch or Koeman should be brought in - definitely not Mourinho.
