This is going back a few years and I don't know if my memory is deceiving me. Was there not a possibility of individual clubs selling the streaming rights to their games? Is this an avenue for the future? Or will it never come to fruition. Any of the eds have any information on it?

{Ed002's Note - There is every likelihood that the big money from television, other media, sponsorship etc. would go with a breakaway league. It would completely rupture the operations of UEFA and I would expect it would require national associations like the FA to restructure their leagues. Nobody wants this but it is the eventual consequence I would expect. As a result there would certainly be a step change in the way clubs capture their media income. Two EPL clubs (Arsenal and Liverpool) have already investigated, and probably continue to investigate, the streaming type options for games. Whilst they cannot do it in real-time right now, in the future the chance may well be there to do that. Both clubs have media exploitation expertise within their existing senior management structures – but both will also be aware of the damage being done to the clubs by the illegal “free” internet providers.

So in the longer term, I would think that there will be more options to watch games live – either through existing / revised media deals or through the clubs providing that service themselves. In all probability it would be far more cost effective and beneficial to do it through the likes of a television company, perhaps as a partner. Clubs on their own do not have the broadcast capabilities, nor equipment and facilities necessary to do this easily on their own and it would seem likely they would seek a media partner rather than go in to the broadcasting business.}

About the "free" illegal providers.

What other option is there for the majority of games that aren't televised? Either you get 40 thousand seats or 6 thousand out of millions of fans.

They need to loft the ban on 3 oclock games and let you buy them for 15/ 20 quid like a ppv event on sky. They still get full houses but everyone can watch it. I would pay it rather than watch a crappy stream.

Think it happens in Germany.
