Pep G said he was a success at Barcelona and Bayern. At Barcelona he was, no doubt about that. In Bayern with what they consider as a successful season and what Heyneckes had done he is not a success. If City stand by his side and say he was a success in Bayern then they have to accept Pelligrini who won league title in a tougher and highly competitive league, went to semi finals of CL, won some domestic cups as pep, is a better Manager than Pep and why they replace a better manager is questionable. If we take that point alone then we can say mourinho is highly successful every where he managed.

Come on mate. The league is every teams bread and butter. He won 3 in a row there. You can say what you want about the standard of the league but you can only beat what's in front of you. As for the Champions League, Sir Alex won 2 in his career and he's arguably the best manager ever. Pep is a winner. Jose is a winner. Conte is a winner. But like Highlander, there can be only one!

Sir Alex and Carlo Ancelotti are the best managers ever. Carlo should manage United in future.

How can Pep not winning the CL despite having much of the pieces in place to do so be considered a failure but Mourinho failing to win the CL at Chelsea and Real Madrid not be?

He won it at Porto and Inter who on the face of it were much less likely to contend for the CL. At Chelsea and Real he spent hundreds of millions and had some of the best players on the planet.

Pep was a massive success at Bayern. By your logic Heynckes shouldn't have been manager to actually win the CL as the season before it he finished 2nd in the league and was runner up in both cup competitions and therefore unsuccessful.

RJ jose's situation both at madrid and chelsea were different, unlike bayern none of chelsea or madrid had even won the title in previous years until jose managed both clubs. When jose started first at chelsea they hadn't won a title for 50 years, the second time they hadn't won for 4 or so years, both times his arrival coincided with epl trophy, other than him only ancelotti managed to win 1, that is 4 trophies in 13 years under Abramovich, 3 of which were won by jose. Same with madrid, they hadn't won la liga since pep arrived and were getting eliminated each year at the round of 16 stage, jose's coming broke all that as madrid went on to win la liga for the first time in 4 years and funny thing they haven't won it since.

{Ed001's Note - you can't pull out those Chelsea stats, prior to Jose they had been gradually climbing up the league. If I remember correctly Ranieri got them to second before he was unfairly sacked and Jose was thrown huge pots of money to move up one step.}

Sorry pressed post too early, Pep winning bundesliga with bayern is as good as PSG winning the ligue 1, while bundesliga might have slightly better opponents in situation is exact same, bayern are well above an team in bundesliga not to mention the fact that year on year they keep buying their biggest opponent's best players, a half decent manager will win the league with bayern, there is nothing special in it.

that one step included record points that none have come close to since also a defensive record that i don't see anyone breaking any time soon ed001, also i checked ranieri's season they finished 11 points behind arsenal invincibles, who did not lose any big players the next season but finished 12 points behind chelsea, throwing money or not that is an achievement.

{Ed001's Note - it is hardly as big an achievement as you are making out, it is only the same as Pep taking Barca from second to first in Spain and getting those same kind of stats. Sorry but you are just licking butt because Jose is your manager. He has a great record, but achieved it in a similar way, having more money than the rest, just like he did at Porto, Madrid, Chelsea.}

I would have to say pep and José are at a similar level and anybody who thinks man city are not going to be a good side under him are deluded. They'll be right up there come end of season as we should be! I for one am looking forward to the battle with them and Chelsea as well as spurs, pool, arsenal, Leicester, Everton. I could go on. There really is no favourite in my eyes, let the battle commence.

i never said what pep did at Barcelona was average, he built one of the best ever sides in the world and won a shed load of trophies, but his bayern record isn't spectacular, also money argument is unfair with regards to madrid as Barcelona and madrid spent identical amounts during jose's time at madrid.

All great managers need great teams to win and no one is an exception. Next year will be interesting as all these managers come into clubs who are rebuilding and retooling teams and a good litmus test on seeing who can get their teams playing attractive and winning football. One thing for sure the PL attractiveness compared to other European leagues is so far above and it should be an unbelievable exciting year for football fans.

Finally SAF is the greatest manager to ever grace football and all of the above IMO are never going to be in his league.

absolutely agree with u xfiles, what fergie did in his last season is unbelievable, jose, pep and other might be great managers but to win the league that too at canter with a team that had 1 inform striker, a lot of hasbeens and even more never willbees is an achievement on par with leicester's.

Heyneckes replaced LVG when he took over as Bayern manager. So finishing second to fantastic Dortmund and reaching CL finals after rebuilding is a respectable achievement. In the next season Bayern thrashed Barcelona 7-0 in aggregate and went on to win the CL with a beautiful football display. They won the treble in that season. From pathetic football under LVG to treble winners is an achievement which Pep is due. For doing that he should have chosen liverpool or United who were both pathetic under Rodgers and LVG respectively.
Franz Beckenbauer, who led die Roten to three consecutive European Cup wins in the 1970s, [92] called Heynckes' 2012–13 side "the best Bayern team ever"

Midfield maestro, Fergie and Ancelotti the best ever. Have you never heard of Bob Paisley. Check out his trophy haul. He's miles ahead of those two.

Redal,
Bob Paisley is great but surpassed by SAF and Ancelotti.
SAF 13 league titles + 2 CL. SAF final league title is something unthinkable and that too with the squad city had.
Ancelotti 3 CL with different clubs.
Mourinho one CL away from matching Carlo's record.
