Ashley Williams.10 MIL to Everton supposedly I think we should put a bid in. has plenty of pl experience solid performances a leader for Bailey and Co to learn their trade from.

Ken doesn't rate him so we shouldn't sign him.

Ken is just sulking because barbie wouldn't give him any.

decent player - slow but a great organiser and leader - would be very good buy for 2 seasons to see how the CBS develop around him and his experience.

I've never rated him either. If he was so great then how come ourselves or arsenal or Liverpool or any of the other top tier teams never moved for him. Now someone finally does and its Everton. Not top tier team. Not a top tier player.

Think he's actually rather overrated. He's only really watched in games against big teams where he looks good because there's lots of defending to be done and he's a good scrambling defender. He makes lots of mistakes and doesn't look at all special against smaller teams.

Mort hasn't he been playing for a top tier club?

Captain of his country.

Now looks to be moving to one of the biggest clubs in England.

Your derogatory statements about opposing clubs in this thread are very poor.

{Ed001's Note - Brendan Rodgers tried to take him to Liverpool when he first took over, but Williams was not interested in leaving Swansea then.}

Good point maze.

And he would have been a step up in the CB area back then for Liverpool Ed001.

{Ed001's Note - not so sure he would have been. Whenever he has been exposed to attacks, he has looked woeful and lacked badly. When he has a compact midfield providing lots of protection, he does well, but so did Blind and Smalling and they are not good enough. At Liverpool Williams would have been exposed and shown to be the average defender he actually is. Great for Wales, as they play a keeper, 9 defenders and Bale, good for Swansea until they tried to play a more open style. He is just nothing special. Stats make him look far better than he is.}

I think he is capable of doing a job 001.

At the time when the Liverpool back four was Skrtel, Kolo, Lovren and Sakho I think he is a step up on those players for sure.

{Ed001's Note - on Skrtel, yes, on Lovren and Kolo were on a par and Sakho is much better, he just looks awkward. I would suggest you start actually watching him and you will see he is not as good as he gets hyped up to be. Brilliant captain, but not the best defender.}

I don't think he is the be all and end all of defenders but I do think he puts himself in and does a job.

Like I said I would have him over Lovren, Kolo and I haven't been overly impressed with Sakho. I'd have him over Blind, Rojo, Jones and maybe even Smalling also.

Ed001 sorry to jump in with a completely different defender but what's you opinion on Jose Fonte.

{Ed001's Note - excellent player who organises the defence really well. I really like him. Positionally sound and understands how to make a partnership work.}

I'd agree with that also Ed001. Fonte is fantastic and like Williams has worked hard to find his way in top tier football.

Then again playing for Southampton and Swansea isn't top tier according to some.

didnt Arsenal make an offer for Williams 3 seasons ago?

{Ed001's Note - they inquired about him but he wasn't interested in a move then.}

Maze don't be your usual foolish self. You full well know what I meant. There's 3 leagues in the premier league. The top teams chasing European places the bottom teams and the rest. Swansea aren't exactly a champions league place challenger is what I meant.

And Everton haven't been a big club for 30 years. Big reputation on past events but no one thinks of them as a big club these days.

Like the ed said go watch him play and you'll realise he's bang average.

Now Fonte on the other hand would be an excellent acquisition.

Like I said to the Ed I disagree I believe Williams is a good reliable player.

As for the 3 tiers in the PL I'm guessing Leicester didn't get your memo last year mort.

So if Everton aren't considered a 'top team' then does that mean you don't consider Spurs a top team?

Id say spurs are but just. Being a big club is more than just what you won years ago. Or do you count Villa, Forest, Wolves and Huddersfield as big clubs?

Laurent Blanc is available if it's simply experience we are after?
