What's everyone's opinions on Fonte? Been reading the saints page and it looks like he may be signing for us. He's a good player and Ed001 thinks he'd start for us alongside Bailly, but his fitness and age is a bit of a worry. I've never really watched him close enough really but I heard a lot of people say that Liverpool signed the wrong saints centre back a couple of years ago.

Players like Fonte are good for when we are under pressure, I can't imagine we will be put under too much pressure regularly. I rate him and we need an organiser, we could do a lot worse, far better than Jones, Smalling and Rojo imo. I do like having a ball player at the back in Blind as well, difficult one for me because who drops out?

I can see the pro's and con's so going to be undecided here as not sure how useful he will be for the majority of games, and what he brings to the table we sacrifice something elsewhere.

Don't think we need a cb now. Let the dust settle. If it's needed we can always buy one in jan. Blind, smalling, jones (okay maybe tuanzebe instead of him) deserve a chance with bailly. let's not forget we had one of the best defences in the pl last year.

I think Jose knows Portuguese talent quite well, and if he thinks Fonte can be a makeshift for 1-2 seasons then I won't mind.
With the money we've spent, we may not sign Varane/ Manolas this season. If we do have the money, I would prefer personally for us to sign top talents and not good players.
I'm surprised to see us not looking at Manolas as I think he's an exceptional CB.

No better than Smalling, who, if memory serves me well, was very good last season. I think Blind has also cemented his place in the squad as a decent choice at CB.
That new bloke we've signed isn't bad either. I don't think with Jose playing 2 in front of the back 4, we need any more cover in central defence.

I think we need another cb bailly will be off to the African nations cup for 6 or 8 weeks don't forget. If we sign another cb such as fonts I think
Jones and rojo will leave if we can find buyers .

I personally really like him. Bailly, Fonte, Smalling and Blind are good options. I doubt Jones will come good and Rojo is a waste of space.
