It is interesting to see the different spins being put on schweinies desire to stay at man Utd.

On one hand it could be argued that it shows class and loyalty.

On the other hand he is on a massive contract and doesn't have to play much. Now if we look at last season, yes he did well when he did play, but how often was that. Are we being used as a pension booster.

Now none of us know the truth of the matter, but many could learn from schweinie how to come across as a classy individual.

The way he is being treated is exactly the reason why I for one didn't want Jose in the first place. Bastian is a legend of football and i think that when he did play last season he put in his all and drove us forward as best he could. Why he gets the flak he does by some Utd fans bemuses me.

I think fans are a bit p*ssed that he missed the majority of last season, yet magically became fit and played the whole Euro's for Germany, having spent most of his injured time last season in Germany. Now maybe it is a coincidence, but you can't blame fans for wondering what is happening. I'm not sure either way.

24 Aug 2016 13:01:41
Agreed Spoc, he's been nothing but class since he's been with us. I was at the Sheff Utd game when he got a horrible knee injury on the edge of their box, trying to win us the game. He played the rest of the match on 1 leg as we'd used all our subs. He deserves more respect.

spoc i agree that jose should have handled the schweinsteiger issue better, but media have made a mountain of what is not even a molehill. Bastian is a germany and bayern legend not a utd legend, i don't care what he has won at bayern or for germany, his performances for utd have been poor considering the wages he seems to be on and all in all he has been one of the worst signings under lvg, also when utd were fighting for the 4th place and FA cup, schweinsteiger was busy playing "around the WTA world with Ana ivanovic" thanks to his injury and yet after missing most of the second half of the season through injury he somehow comes back in pretty good shape for germany for the euros, something he couldn't do for utd at start of the season where he looked unfit.

Is it more disrespectful to keep him on the fringes of the squad, or to be honest and tell the player that he isn't part of your plans?

For me, Jose was being honest and direct. He doesn't see Schwein as being part of his plans and told him that he'd be better to find a new club. I think Schwein will either return to Bayern or go to the US. That would be the best scenario for everyone.

Pep is treating Joe Hart and Yaya Toure the same way and receiving no criticism at all.

7.) 24 Aug 2016
24 Aug 2016 13:43:45
Good old St. Pep lol.

8.) 24 Aug 2016
24 Aug 2016 13:51:23
I really don't care and just hope Jose makes the right decisions for the benefit of the team. Saf was as ruthless as anyone and we all loved it when he made the right call, no matter how ruthless. Pep is going the same at City but the sun shines out of his a*se?

9.) 24 Aug 2016
24 Aug 2016 15:15:47
Lvg treated a couple the same way last season. Pep treating yaya and Hart the same way. Fergie treated several of our players that way, dare I mention Beckham, Pogba, Veron, rvn, stam. Lvg practically stopped speaking to rvp. Yet spoc tells us this is exactly why he didn't want Mourinho in the job?!
All top managers have to make these tough decisions. If schweni has any pride, he should find another club and move on. Injured all season, yet fit to play for Germany in the Euros,

10.) 24 Aug 2016
24 Aug 2016 15:49:22
Pep is receiving no criticism? What? Have you not read a paper or browsed the likes of BBC Sports/ Sky Sports? Pep is rightfully talking flak for the way he is treating Hart, much more flak - rightfully - than Jose is.

I think Schweinsteiger did his absolute ask for Utd. If you watch back Amy game he played he was always driving forward, organising and costing down defenders. In fact I can remember one game where we were getting best and he was the only player on our team chasing the ball and trying to make something happen. If you're going to argue that Schweinsteiger was LVG's worst sitting, ignoring Rojo and Di Maria etc, then you must be doing so because he is an LVG 'boy' rather than because of his performances.

11.) 24 Aug 2016
24 Aug 2016 15:53:38
Also SchMidfield, I believe that legends of our club have said the same thing in the past. Managing Utd comes with an expectation that you conduct yourself in accordance to the high standards of Man Utd. I really do not like Pep either and think his whole replacement of Heyneckes was done appallingly and that he is treating Hart and Toure terribly. However, dare I say it, Manchester Utd have a much higher standard and better reputation than City do.

12.) 24 Aug 2016
24 Aug 2016 16:14:39
he will be off to china or the usa pretty soon.

13.) 24 Aug 2016
24 Aug 2016 16:25:16
spoc i take it then u don't like SAF either, he has done the same to countless players.

14.) 24 Aug 2016
24 Aug 2016 16:57:19
I certainly don't read the papers, spoc, they're full of tripe. So apologies if Pep has taken a lot of flack buy whenever I've seen pundits on the tv they gush over him.

Anyway, what has he done do Hart that is so bad? Has he been bullying him in training? He's a top level manager and if he thinks he can get a better, more suited GK to improve his team I really don't see the issue. I'm sure its not personal, football is a cut throat industry.

Did you think badly of Saf for mistreating so many top stars over the years?

15.) 24 Aug 2016
24 Aug 2016 18:35:34
I don't think badly of Jose, but I still think Bastian could still have something to offer. I never saw him shirk a shift on the pitch, and the off-field stuff is just guesswork and supposition.

16.) 24 Aug 2016
24 Aug 2016 18:54:27
Spoc i don't think there's am easy way of telling a world class player that he's no longer wanted. Mourinho has to do what's best for United.
Fergie never shirked that responsibility. He got rid of Stam Beckham Yorke. So to say that that's why you didn't want mourinho doesn't make sense as all managers have to do it. There is no proper or easy way to do it.

17.) 24 Aug 2016
24 Aug 2016 18:59:14
I agree Stevie. Fellaini has done great and long may his good form continue but I would select a fit Bastian ahead of him anytime.

18.) 24 Aug 2016
24 Aug 2016 20:18:26
At least Jose has deal with Schweini - more than LVG seemed to be capable of. He has taken us for ride, now it's journeys end. Personally, I am not sorry.

19.) 24 Aug 2016
24 Aug 2016 20:59:35
ken why?
the wigs last 2 games have been better than anything bastian has done in a united shirt .
i can't think of a single reason to pick him other fellaini other than he is a big name star.

20.) 24 Aug 2016
24 Aug 2016 21:33:03
Simple jred imo he is a better football player than fellaini. I've seen fellaini play half a dozen good games in just over 3 years and I've seen bastian play superbly for 10 years. I thought he did ok for us in a few games last season.

I saw him out perform fellaini in euros. Sure fellaini has played well in the first 2 games and I'm pleased for him. It's nothing to do with names It's to do with class. That's my opinion.

21.) 24 Aug 2016
24 Aug 2016 21:55:47
ken
but that 10 years was in the past.
bastian was a great a player but munich let him go fir a reason .
but for some he is still a big name .
the wig has played really well the last 2 games and you would drop him and pick "a fit Bastian ahead of him anytime"
even tho the wig is playing well and bastian has done nothing really in a united shirt.

its all about the name.

22.) 24 Aug 2016
24 Aug 2016 22:35:29
Its all well and good saying Bastien might still be useful, I don't necessarily disagree. But at the end of the day we have too many numbers in this position, so Jose had a tough decision to make. I'm happy with the changes he's made so far and trust him to know more than me in terms of who to get rid of. And to be fair, he seems to have chosen an ageing player who's on a massive wage and was not capable of giving his all for the club last season, before going on to be fit and ready for the Euro's. I see logic in that decision. Pogba is a star. Fellaini, schneiderlin and Herrera are younger and most likely hungrier. Carrick and Blind give us depth and cover. there's not much room for Bastien, let alone on his wage packet. I hope we find a buyer and wish him all the best.

23.) 24 Aug 2016
24 Aug 2016 22:59:57
From the person who said rooney should come straight back into the team when fit again last season despite rashford and fellaini playing well while he was out it smacks of the double standards you detest do much. It's all about the big name.

24.) 24 Aug 2016
24 Aug 2016 23:07:01
Sir Alex conducted himself with class, he kept a lot of matters in house and the ones he never brought it upon themselves.

25.) 25 Aug 2016
25 Aug 2016 00:50:59
Spoc,

Are you sure?

26.) 25 Aug 2016
25 Aug 2016 06:52:47
ken
rash and the wig played different position than rooney .
plus you could play play all three .
but i can't find a place in this team for bastian to just walk into if fit .

he is well fown the pecking order imo even if he has been a superstar in the past.

27.) 25 Aug 2016
25 Aug 2016 08:40:01
Your right jred he is will down the pecking order and is likely to leave. The manager has decided not to give him an opportunity that is his prerogative but it won't change my opinion.
Bastian did not cover himself in glory and showed what I consider to be disrespect last year to the club and his team mates. But based on pure footballing ability I would select a fit Bastian over fellaini.

28.) 25 Aug 2016
25 Aug 2016 12:37:07
For once i agree with jred, i would have fellaini over schweinsteiger all day long, ken schweinsteiger may have been a great player once but he hasn't shown us that he is even a decent one in the utd shirt, i remember games where fellaini bossed the game not to mention his 2 performances this season have been very good, with schweinsteiger i can't recall a single good performance and add to that the disrespect he has shown this club, all he cared about was the euros for germany in the same sense i don't see why utd fans need to care about how he treated right now.

29.) 25 Aug 2016
25 Aug 2016 15:13:38
CSM, with all due respect, and unless you were privy to the goins-on at the club, you have no idea what he cared about. Guesswork and supposition again, with your own slant on things.

30.) 25 Aug 2016
25 Aug 2016 15:41:47
Nou i don't need to be privy to inside knowledge to see that he was unfit when he came to us, injured for most part of the latter part of season. Yet managed to regain fitness for euros which were 1 month after the season. And it is common knowledge that most of his injury breaks were spent in germany or on wta tours. I am not saying he did this without club letting him, but it doesn't look good whatever way u slant it.

31.) 25 Aug 2016
25 Aug 2016 16:30:58
There's a big difference between being Premier League fit, and international fit, tho. Most of the games are played at walking pace.
