I have to admit I think you're all getting carried away with Rashford.

Don't get me wrong he's a talented lad but I'll bet any of you he ends up more Defoe than Shearer. - still a heck of an achievement nonetheless, but the way some of you are acting he's the second coming of George Best.

Hmm, I think it's too early to judge. However, I do think he should be playing, right now he is full of energy and pace and knows where the goal is. He burst onto the scene, he seems to have his feet on the ground, and frankly I would have him in the team ahead of Martial, Mata or Rooney.

I'm not getting carried away, I just think he is flying right now and should be playing.

Giggs was the second coming of Best so that comparrison has already been done.

Was the same with Martial last season, I thought he did ok yes only because everyone else looked so bad.
Now this season he's been noticed because the sides a lot different.

Have you watched the lad play? We are all in our right to be excited by him. He's 18, he's local lad who's a fan, he's composed, he's quick, he can dribble, he's scored important goals in big games and it doesn't look like a flash in the pan. If you can't get excited by this then you're watching the wrong sport!

Jose he will be a lot better than defoe.
Time will tell but he will be better than your suggestion.
He is different to shearer.
But he seems to have the eye for goal and the football brain to know where to be.
He is a big player even at his age and if England played him against iceland they would have won.

Whether he starts or not is down to so many different factors but I trust Mourinho.

Don't get me wrong I'm very impressed everytime I see Rashford but like you've all said, he's a boy and still a good 7-8 years away from peaking.

We've reacted this way with Januzaj, Macheda, Anderson, Campbell, Ravel, Rossi, etc.

Also, I love Giggs but he's never been on the same level as Best. That's like saying Bale is on a level with Messi.

I don't think anyone believes Rashford is the second coming or third but we can all see that he has something special, he will turn out to be a great player for us, as it stands I would have him in the team in front of Rooney and Mata.
Miki Tyre Iron at No10 and Rashford on the right.

You should go back to writing love letters to van Gaal's tactical genius instead of writing off a young lad who has risen to every challenge.

If Rash becomes as good as Defoe at his peak and stays with us he will get a lot of goals. Defoe is massively underrated. Wish we had got him instead of Berbatov.

Moon,

Macheda scored a goal on his debut and people were excited by him, he didn't rise to any challenge after that, rashford has risen to every challenge for club and country since then, he's a star in the making and any united fan watching him week in week out suggesting he doesn't have the potential to be an absolute star in my opinion doesn't understand football. He might not make it, but he absolutely had the potential, the right role models at the club and the right management to hit the heights a lot of us hope he will.

United fans are exactly the same as Liverpool fans in this regard.

Hype any talent up to the next best thing.

He has a lot of potential but he's really not anything special right now, we'll see what happens but I don't see him being any better than the likes of Jese, Morata, Sarabia, etc.

Everyone's entitled to their own opinions though and I respect that.

Also I'd like to add that players peak at different ages Moon. For example players like Owen and Rooney peaked very early on in their careers and started to decline in their mid 20's. Then there's players like Van Persie and Vardy that peaked late in their careers.

Rashford could play his best football between 18-23 like Owen and Rooney. So that's why when he's playing like this, he should be on the field. Even if it's in a wide position.

No disrespect but George Best is much better than Giggs.

Moon, it's not just MU fans hyping Rashford up though. Neutrals and even rival fans are saying he's a special talent. The thing I like about him is he doesn't do silky skills and flicks, he does the simple things well. So he can only improve. His speed is a huge part of his game, but he is unfazed by pressure, he actually relishes pressure. This season we'll know a lot more, but I think he is going to have a great future.

Scored in his first-team debut, Premier League debut, first Manchester derby and England debut. that's plenty to get excited about alone.

Take into acct he is only 18 and a local lad and combine those with the stories that he stays behind after training specifically to get ibra to help him on bettering himself, posted videos of himself doing extra training over the summer to be in shape and what you have is an intelligent and humble young player who is unlikely to get unsettled, loves the club, is smart enough to realise that things will come to him in time if he just works hard and who seems extremely coachable.

Fairly exciting I'd say but I agree there is no need for everyone to want everything from the lad right now. he seems happy to wait and learn and chip in when necessary so we should respect that. I'm sure Mourinho will have discussed where he sees Rashford contributing but also what he envisages him becoming over time.

{Ed001's Note - Rashford has everything that is needed to become a top class player. Though, as I was saying to Ed004 yesterday, I think the signing of Mkhitaryan was a mistake, as Rashford should have been the player pushing Mata on the right. He needs more game time than a few sub appearances late in games.}

Moon, are you on a wind up? Not anything special right now? I'd argue that right now he is very special. No idea if he will develop into a top player with a long career but right now he is special.

19.) 29 Aug 2016
29 Aug 2016 08:25:26
What's the obsession with comparing players anyway, he'll only be a Defoe not a Shearer? If he gets as good as either of those 2 he will be a huge success for the academy.

If anyone actually rated Macheda or Campbell as high as they rate Rashford now, they need their head testing as far as I'm concerned - he's on a different level to what they were.

The most impressive thing with Rashford is he keeps nailing every challenge before him, played and scored on debut, kept scoring and playing, does well for England then comes back and scores an important goal in his first appearance this season.

Cant help but get excited!
