Jred, i'm not saying it's all his fault. I'm saying we must play 433 and he isn't good enough to start any of the roles. If you read carefully I said Lingard and Memphis should be back ups and Mkhitaryan would fight for one of the wide places with Rashford and Martial.

I never once said it was all his fault. I would happily have Rooney at the club as a backup/ rotation player but it doesn't seem possible.

{Ed004's Note - Front 3 options of Martial, Ibra, Rashford, Mkhitarian, Memphis, Lingard and Rooney are great options. Mkhitarian could even play on the right side of a midfield 3. Didn't he play there for Dortmund at times?}

Big Al, I'm a big fan of both of them and would have been happy with either signing. My brother is actually a Liverpool fan and I kept having to convince him that Mane is a quality player when he was skeptical after you had signed him.

You take any criticism of rooney so personal. i think the point most people are making is that is that this team needs to set up without him for 4 or 5 games and i think we will see a better team. It seems like we have players sitting on the bench just to somehow fit rooney in.

I would like to see Martial, Rashford, Mick and Zlatan as our front 4 and we how we go.

{Ed004's Note - I would drop Mik for Herrera and go for a 433 however, Mik could play on the right side of a midfield 3}

Big Al I wanted us to get Mane. He is a super player. I think mkhitaryan is going to struggle in the PL. Another Kagawa in the making unfortunately.

How can anyone that watched that match yesterday make out rooney was the worst player on the pitch.
And the other side of things.
I thought the refs were clamping down on shirt pulling and stuff like that and yet bravo lunges 2 fotted with studs up, a straight red it should have been.
We made city look good in the first half. stood off them let them play.
I honestly think we have the measure of them. but come on its a derby tackle them get in their faces.
I still think we will be up there at the end of the season.

I'm still baffled as to why Jose started Lingard who has just come back from injury and started Mik when he was still injured. Play an on fire Rashford and Martial.

When changing to a 433 we should have had pace on either side of Ibra (Rashford/ Martial) . If Rooney had to play then he should have been the attacking midfielder of the midfield three.

Jose is usual spot on with tactics, but yesterday surprised me.

I think miki is a better player. But he was thrown in the deep end there. Mane has had a couple of premier league seasons already under his belt. Would have been happy with either but I think miki slightly shades it over Mane.

Rooney has been poor for the last two seasons, but managers still find a way to shoehorn him into the team - be it van Gaal playing him in a holding midfield role or Jose (who only likes specialists remember) putting him on the wing. Micky shouldn't have started yesterday because he obviously wasn't fully fit, and Lingaard shouldn't have been thrust into a big game after a month out. But the biggest mistake yesterday was playing a two man midfield against a side that lives and dies by controlling the tempo of a game.

It wasn't Rooney's fault (he was poor but so were most of the team) . It was Jose's fault for playing with a number 10 so Rooney could start. That lost us the match in the opening half because they were allowed to control the game comfortably, and Jose's counter attack plan was null and void as soon as we went behind. Some games need a creative ten, but games like yesterday don't.

I obviously don't think Rooney is contractually obliged to play, but successive managers have lacked the balls to drop him despite it being obvious that 4-3-3 has been our most effective formation for the last two years. He's not good enough as a striker, not good enough as a cm, and he's certainly not the answer to our issue at rw. If we're not playing a number 10, he shouldn't play, and the fact of the matter is that we are a better team with 3 in the middle 9 times out of 10.

Yeh Jred, and that's why Miki and Lingard were taken off early, and Depay is nowhere near the first 11. Yet Rooney can have as many bad games as he wants and is never dropped or subbed. It's actually comical at times. I've seen games where Mata, Martial, Rashford etc have had good games and been subbed off when Rooneys had a stinker. Anyone had a bad game they're subbed, Rooney no. He's holding the team back. His touch is terrible and he's slow on the ball. Needs 3 touches all the time by which time he's been dispossessed. I'd much rather see Miki or Mata in the 10 roles, and think Hererra needs to be starting too.

Mik is better at 10 and we have stuck him out trig to fit rooney in. I would like to see him play as a 10. Let's stick rooney on the right and see how he goes :)
