Hi guys,

I wanted to ask you guys if you guys think it is appropriate to publicly criticize players such as Shaw recently.

Do you think this tactic will work or wi it cause a issue in the dressing room? .

I think it's fine as long as it's justified, he's only telling it how it is. It's not as if he said "it's all Luke's fault, I'll think twice when picking next weeks line up" 😂👍🏻.

No it won't work but its the way jose operates, when his teams lose someone else is to blame, whether its the refs, individual players or physios.

That being said koeman publicly criticised ross barkley the other day and got a better performance from him the following game.

Depends on many things such as the relationship the manager has with the player, the atmosphere in the dressing room, the mental state of the player in question, what was said and in what context, the collectives thinking on what was said ect ect.

On the whole I do believe it is a tactic which should be used less and less. The mentality of player nowadays is very different to that of 20 years ago. Also you have agents getting involved and they won't want anything made public which could be harmful to the players "brand" thus potentially costing the agent money.

Personally I believe it better to keep those things in house, it helps create an us and them culture. Also as a manager you lead by example, and you set the example. If a manager complains about a player to the press then why can't a player complain about the manager to them as well?
It can lead to airing dirty laundry in public which aside from being embaressing is also distracting from the aims of the team.

'This is a tactical but also a mental attitude. In a couple of weeks, everything like this becomes perfect. That's my job. '

It isn't as bad as people are making it out to be.

Maybe he shouldn't have gone public with it, but he's only saying that Shaw' mentality is different to what he wants and after a few weeks he will get it right.

Criticize whoever is to blame. Have u seen the latest stats of clubs that run/ cover most ground? Utd are among the last! For those wages crack the whip when necessary!

No its not right to do that, he should dish out the Rollocking in the dressing room. Some reports that Shaw and some senior players are not happy with the way he handled it.

Morning Singh, I was surprised that he singled out Shaw. Some players it works for and some it is a very negative thing. My concern is that previously I had read that Jose has questioned Shaw over his wage demands when he tried to sign him for Chelsea which just worries me that Jose holds a bit of a grudge? I think Shaw is going to be a top top player and to single him out alone when it was obvious others also made mistakes I think is poor form from Jose.

I feel it's nothing wrongly really since JM is a very direct person. But of course you must also remember that the media will make a mountain out of a molehill.
I am sure JM is under pressure but would've been better to keep it internal like SAF. That said I still feel there is nothing wrong and the player should be mature enough to take it with stride.

Personally I think Jose was wrong to criticise Shaw, playing through the pain barrier which he should've known about and tbh Shaw was prob one of the very few players that have come out of our bad spell with any credit, a strange one for me, I feel like Jose is getting frustrated already.

Yes Shaw was at fault for a goal, but to criticise him in publically was very wrong. he wasn't the worst on the pitch.
Why is the ManUtd job too big a ask for managers?

Considering the lad is not long back from a very serious long term injury and is probably still a few months away from being back to his best, I don't think singling him out for public criticism was good management and a bit worrying.

I don't have an issue with JM saying that as he is a very direct person and says what he thinks. Of course it would have been better if kept internal. The media is always out to make a mountain out of molehill anyway.
Player should also be mature enough to know it is nothing personal and get going to play better.
There is no point trying to tell people we are playing well when we haven't. So I do not have an issue with that. Hope the team understands that. The only way not to be single out for anyone is to all play as a team and win.

Young player coming back from a horrible injury, no way he should be publicly criticised. As for telling it like it is, every player on the pitch could have been criticised for that performance so to single out one player, especially one in Shaw's position, is a boneheaded move.

I said it last season with van Gaal too, Fergie blamed the ref, the pitch, the weather, the FA, the Spice Girls, the colour of the shirts, sometimes even himself, but he never blamed individual players because it's the manager's job to back them in public even if you kick boots at them in private.

Jose is a prick. He publicly slates Shaw for 1 lapse but says nothing about Rooney who's been crap all season. It's like picking on the young lads because they won't say anything back.

{Ed025's Note - people are seeing through jose at last al..

I have to agree with redal. Tear them a new one in private if it is deserved, but ensure that it is fair and everyone gets the same, if deserved. Don't do it in public though. I had huge worries about Jose when he was rumoured to be taking over, and nothing I have seen has eased those worries. It will end in a messy split, let's hope we get some silverware before it does, otherwise it will have been a waste of time and money yet again.

He has my support, as does everyone, when the players run out onto the pitch, and I'm sure we will win some things, but I don't like Jose as a person and how he does things.

Thanks guys i hope jose fixes up and doesn't criticise players for for them to run away from the club.
