What is going on with Luke Shaw? Surely he cannot be injured again. If I am being completely honest I have not been too impressed with him since he signed. There has been glimpses here and there but that's it. Yes he had a bad injury but I get the impression he is lazy and needs to give more to club.

Granted he is young but this will now be his third season at the club. The next season or so is going to be make or break for him so in my opinion he should try to start growing up, getting hid body in shape and show why Man Utd paid a hell of a lot of cash for him.

I would hate for him to be another built up expensive average prodigy like Memphis Depay.

In his first season he showed glimpses, but seemed a bit unfit which LvG also pointed out. Supposedly he is keen on a take away.

But over the summer after his first season him and Depay went away with a fitness coach and he started his second season on fire and was probably our best player up until his injury.

He then spent nearly a year out injured, and the type of injury he had tends to have serious repercussions. 20 years ago he would never have made it back at all. Its well documented that these type of injuries require a certain amount of mental recovery as well.

Give him time.

Good post Shappy. Very sensible post. He needs a bit of time.

{Ed004's Note - We really need the Luke Shaw of last season (before his injury) and Martial to kick on. It'll add a whole new dimension to our attack. It seems our right side is sorted now with Mkhitarian (Mata as cover) and Valencia (although could start to plan for a replacement there but we apparently are looking at right backs)}

I like the guy but unfortunately I think Jose didn't want him at Chelsea and the same can be said now at United. I think he will be gone in the summer and some Portuguese/ Brazilian left back will be bombing up and down next summer- shame really 😆😆.

{Ed007's Note - Remember Shaw came back from a World Cup to join Utd and wasn't even fit enough to train with the Utd first team. Even without the bad injury I reckon Shaw would have struggled to maintain the fitness levels required and without a major attitude adjustment it will probably continue throughout his career.}

When asked if Shaw is fit, Mourinho said that he needs to improve his game. that's about the same he said about Mhkyki when asked why he wasnt playing and that worked out pretty good.
I trust Mourinho as he seems to know when players are ready.
Now, let's make the crystal lose its shine! GGMU!

Shaw is not in good condition. The fact that he is not in great shape had nothing to do with his injury. It's a lot more to do with his attitude and professionalism. 3 different managers have called him out on it. If he is at one of the world's biggest clubs for a record fee and earning huge wages and he can't apply himself to the maximum then he will never fulfil his potential.
He needs a change in attitude of gigantic proportions. He still has time on his side in order to dedicate himself to his profession but he had to do it soon or he will stagnate and play our the rest of his career as just another player instead of being one of the best. It's up to him.

I agree with you Ken, but you could see how good a player he was right before he got his injury.
He may just be a player that takes longer to fit a new system and he is still a young boy recovering from a nasty injury.
Given time he will be a monster for us, i think. :)

All the tools are there Norwegian but he has to apply himself to the max or he will never be as good as he can be.
This break will do him good if he had the character to come out the other side.

I think we can see from the miki situation that he manager expects certain standards physically and mentally and until those standards are met they will not get a look in now it seems to have worked spectacularly with miki whether it works with Shaw only time will tell.
The talent is certainly there but psychologically I'm not sure the injury seems to have really affected the lad I just hope there are people at the club to help him through it if needs be and he also has the attitude to work hard and fulfil his potential.

No doubt Ken, he has to show that he fights for the spot and buckle down and hope that like Deno points out, that the injury hasn't gotten the best of him.
Either way, i belive Mourinho will sort it out.

ED007, what's your take on all this? Or are you still in a green hooped dream state.? :)

{Ed007's Note - I hope I'm wrong and the lad turns things round but I don't see him being a regular for Utd over the long term. Even without the injury problems he struggles to stay in top condition and the penny needs to drop with him pretty damn quickly if he's going to reach his potential.}

Hope so to mate, but there must be something in it and think the whole broken toe situation with Smalling sounds fishy too.

He does look very porky this season, and wouldn't look out of place on Wythenshawe Park, playing Sunday league pub football. No way he has been in the required shape of late. Reminds me of another player still In the squad, and another who we have now thankfully gotten rid of, who never quite reached their true potential, due to a lack of professionalism. It's sad as he has the ability to be a top quality LB.

Never rated him from the begenning. Totally agree with Ken and ed7. He has a massive attitude problem and looks mentally very fragile.
If a professional footballers can't control his bad eating or drinking habits, then he doesn't deserve to be at a club like United.
As mentioned by other posters, three managers have mentioned his weight and attitude, so they can't all be wrong.
Give him till the end of season and if he doesn't buckle up and get fit and perform, then show him the door and get a proper left back in.
