He has been a decent coach. We didn't play great football under his coaching last year but we did win the F A Cup and whether by luck or design Lingard and Rashford had breakthrough seasons. Interestingly if you look at his style of possession based football its not that dissimilar to how we are playing now. The only difference is that the players are not afraid to attack and at a quicker tempo and we have three world class players extra in Zlatan Miki and Pogba. All in all LVG has had a distinguished career and generally acted with composure and class as our manager even when it must have been obvious to him that the board were working behind his back to get in a new manager. Also you can't be hired by so many great clubs unless you are good at yr job. Each big club he has managed have in the long run been better off because of what he did. I wish him a happy retirement.

Well said herefordred. I second that thought. He has won several major trophies and I think he did the job he was asked to do at our club and that was to bring stability from our decline after the Moyes' debacle.

I understand the husband of one of his daughters died suddenly very recently and that's probably the reason he is citing family reasons and wanting to enjoy his family andtime with his grandkids

Overall I really didn't like him, I am glad he went, but yes he did some things that really needed doing. I too think we are and will be better off for what he did. Mainly kept his cool in terrible circumstances for himself. I wish him a long and happy retirement.
We shared and endured pain with him, now we are beginning to see gain later to some extent on his foundation. I hope he enjoys seeing as much as I hope too.
Onwards and upwards.

The best thing he did was selling Welbeck.

showing the 4th official a player dived by throwing himself to the ground was the funniest thing he done, but on the park there was nothing to smile about his style of play was absolutely boring just like that other chump moyes.

Brought anti-football to United. Don't ever forget that. Appeared to have all the charm of a brick as well.
