Maybe?
Nobody can tell tbh.
Maybe he wants to stay and help the club win something this season.
Or he thinks he may never get a similar offer and jump ship to China.
It is the right time to sell him, even though we'll lose a bit of experience we would have more money to invest on the squad.

I'm not Rooney's biggest fan but we would be mad to let a player of his experience and calabre leave without a replacement ready and in the squad.

If we sell him and pick up a few injuries between now and the end of the season that could be the difference between getting top four or not.

To be honest I wouldn't be against him staying for another year or two if he was to continue to be faded out as he is atm.

He does offer good cover and great experience. I don't think he is good enough to be first choice anymore, but that doesn't mean he isn't a useful player to have around.

Experience is a funny thing though, a person ages naturally nothing to do with skill or how much they have learned or applied themselves. I know many people in their 50's-60's that are no smarter now than they were 40 years ago. Also who's to say the experience is good, many a "wiser" head has given me dud advice over the years. Age is just a number, if you are not the smartest tool in the box then even experiences are quickly forgotten, or key learnings ignored.

I especially hate it when a young defender shepherds the ball out of play, it's seen as "good defending", when an older defender does it, "that's all his experience coming to the fore". Well if a young kid just did the exact same thing, then WTF does experience have to do with it? Experience is banded around far to easily, because it's never quantified.

Rooney seems to have the changing room behind him, more so for being a good laugh, nice guy, rather than some font of knowledge in my eyes. I would opt to speak with Mata or Herrera over Rooney everyday of the week if I were a young kid needing an experienced hand to hold. So I don't think we would miss his experience, maybe the lads will miss his banter and it's always a shame when a player moves on who is part of the furniture to those closest to it.

That post made no sense and was just waffling. Rooney was not made captain of his country and one of the biggest clubs in world football because he is 'a laugh' and a 'nice guy' if you were a young kid coming into the game would you seriously seek out Herrera over Rooney for advice? I think probably you wouldn't. Makes for a more vitriolic post though eh?

I would wager Herrera has 30-40 points higher IQ than Rooney. Has played in two countries.

Have you heard either of them talk, Herrera even speaks English better than Rooney?

Rooney has made lots of stupid mistakes, has Herrera?

So yeah if I were looking for wise counsel, it would be Herrera's door I knock given the choice.

beast
truth is you know neither of them but one captains club and country one doesn't .
yet you know better?

by the way while i was playing footy all the clever boys with the big IQs were just talking about it

hmm - how's the Rooney captaincy working out for club and country?

My point is simply that age doesn't automatically equate to positive experience to be passed on to the younger generation. Not sure why I have to justify that, it's pretty obvious.

you could be a great captain in a poor team and look like a crap captain

and a poor captain in a great team, but to us fans look like a great captain .

ive said before if you not in the changing room you can't have any idea if terry vidic carrick evra etc are good captains.

the fact that players are picked to be captains by the managers that work with them soeajs volumes imo

If I was kid i would speak to Rooney, his IQ doesn't come into it, that's just stupid talk, he might not be the sharpest tool in the tool box but come on I've seen a lot worse.
As for experience about being a young lad trying to make in the Prem, well Rooney over Herrera anyday, who better than someone who has made all them mistakes and still made, his faults and mistakes make him the ideal person to me.
By the way if i was a smart kid coming through the ranks i would probably speak to all the first team.

Much rather somebody saying "do as I did", rather than "don't do what I did". One is easy to follow, the other has far too many variables, also easier to believe and trust somebody dishing out advice if they can articulate themselves and have a track record to admire in totality.

Anyway the main point is that I don't believe Rooney's "experience" will be missed too much, I didn't really want to slag him off, but I suppose if you are saying what I am you need to justify it.

to be fair you have spent a lot of time slagging him off.

again no idea what rooney experiance has on and in the dressing room .

but i do agree with bits of shappys post, rooney is playing his part as not a first 11 player very well.
has been good coming of the the bench and rotating .

but some won't be happy until he is sold.
mind u some thought he was a cancer in the club andhad it in his contract he couldn't be dropped .

like giggs or scholes he has continued to give his all while his importance to the first 11 has diminished .

Beast, why does IQ have anything to do with experience?

If I was a young player about to play in a big final who would I talk to about what I am about to experience?

The intelligent guy who has never played in big finals or the less intelligent guy who has played in dozens of big finals and has experience of both winning and losing them and fully understands the difference and how to approach it?

I doubt many young players approach Rooney to ask him how to solve issues like the middle east, but they probably would to ask about experience within football. From that perspective Rooney has had it all, he was a young starlet with all the pressure, he was a key player in many games over a long period with our club.

Rooney has been made captain for a reason, not all leaders are snarling beasts ala Keane. He obviously offers something which is why Mourinho hasn't taken the captaincy off of him.

My only real issue with Rooney was his decline and the team being set up around a declining player.
My personal opinion was that Rooney wouldn't take to a bit part role, would become a disruptive influence. So maybe the best solution would be for him to leave to allow the club to move on and evolve. But it appears I may have been wrong and he isn't being a disruptive influence while not playing. So if that is the case then I am happy for him to remain at the club offer his experience and be good cover.

I think one of the biggest issues we have suffered from in the last couple of years is the loss of experience within the squad, nit just older heads such as Scholes, Giggs, Rio, Evra and Vidic but even younger players who had been at the club for a long time and understood what was needed even if they lacked the quality or consistency to be first choice. Players like Nani, Rafael and Evans.

We should learn from our mistakes and I would be reluctant to disgard a player of Rooney's experience unless absolutly nessessary.

IQ - is a term I'm using for intellect. I don;t know about you but I find people who are intelligent more beneficial to people that aren't. In comparison to Herrera I would feel that I would come away from a conversation a lot more informed than I would Rooney - but that's just me. I know if I had a child to be mentored by either of them it would be the one that is more intelligent.

Beast, Rooney might not ever win mastermind but I'm sure he can articulate his experiences.

He is perfectly able to talk about his experiences and what it was like to go through them.

I would suggest if you struggle to understand then that would speak more of your limited ability rather than his. I speak with people from all different backgrounds and experiences with massively varying levels of intellect and I have never failed to understand them. But that's just me. Lol.
