Just want to say that the below posts tell me one thing - For some, Paul Pogba is the new Wayne Rooney.

And this will continue until he literally wins the CL on his own against Barcelona or Real by saving a penalty and then scoring the winner.

Lets just bash a LAD who regardless of being here before, is new to the PL, only been here a few months and whos stats however you see them show a positive impact on the team.

Its not a case of blindly cheering on a failing player - he hasn't failed and most certainly not failing! its a case of recognising what he brings and what level he can become at UTD after he has been here for 1 whole season!

Just want to add to the above that i realise that he is not a 'Kante' to UTD.

Kante is very good, probably aproaching his best right now. Pogba, if his game improved 20% in all areas he would surpass Kante and still have room to improve, enough to make him a world beater.

The only thing we know for sure is that Pogba has not played well for Man Utd, certainly nowhere near any of us expected him to play. All the rest is if's but's and maybe's. Yes he could be one of the worlds best players, but at the minute it looks more like he will be one of the world's most overvalued players. Stop making excuses for him is my advice, because he hasn't deserved that type of "credit" yet, it is earned not granted instantly - we should have learned that lesson with ADM, Depay and the many others before.

Time will tell, all we can do is assess his performances levels for what he is paid to do. He isn't paid 50% less whilst he matures and gets used to a league, so he should be judged like every other player. After all Kante was a revelation last season and I believe that was his first ever in England, he didn't have the luxury of spending a few years here "adapting" in his youth either.

Pogba deserves criticism, just like Rooney has in recent years. They aren't/ weren't performing to the level they are capable of and are given privileges that others are not for lesser performances levels (higher wages and permanent starters) . Rooney has been treated as his performances deserve recently, not the same with Pogba so people will complain and rightfully so in my opinion.

I understand everyone has an opinion of the lad and that's fair enough but come on guys! Let's get behind the team and support our players not make them feel unwelcome on their first season.

Fans on here do let us down at times and everything gets blown out of proportion. I believe Paul is the first big future signing of many under the boss and if our fans treat players like this the only type of players we will attract are the ones for money.

We are a team from on the pitch and off it. I trust the boss he will lead us onto the right path and I trust in his decisions on the players he brings in.

Happy birthday Paul!

Burnley - we all support him when he puts on the shirt mate. The point is we come on here to air our views (good and bad) about the current state of our team, players, manager etc.

When Pogba played quite well that time a while ago he got loads of praise on here!

Come on guys,

I respect everybody's opinion but this is starting to sound like a witch hunt now.

Forgive me if I'm wrong but I didn't see many posting that Pogba was overrated and we should have targeted other players when we signed him in the summer.

At the time all the experts and most fans alike considered him already one of the best midfielders in the Europe and at the age of 23 had not yet reached his peak and had even more room for improvement. The consensus was that we hadn't signed the finished article but he had the potential to dominate the Utd midfield for the next 10 years. A player to build a team around.

In relation to the transfer fee Pogba had no control over it. Yes it was extravagant, such fees are normally only reserved for players that will guarantee 30 goals plus a season but Pogba was never that player. The fee was highly inflated for numerous reasons - He was under contact, Juventus had no real desire to sell him, his young age, his great talent, his massive potential and Utd paid an extra premium as we couldn't offer Champions League football and we we're desperate for a marque signing to strengthen the brand in a period when results on the pitch were poor. We wanted him, we needed him and we got him but we had to pay an astronomical figure .

I'm sure many other top Clubs desired him but baulked at the price, probably because a midfielder's role can't be easily defined or judged by statistics. Goals win games and that's why forwards almost always cost significantly more than defenders, midfielders and goal keepers.

Anyway I digress, yes Pogba has been disappointing, his form has been patchy but the fact remains he is still a very talented footballer and I'm sure he'll become the player we all want him to be. He's been at the Club barely 6 months and I'd much rather watch Pogba than the alternatives of Fellaini or Bastien. Do we really want to return to a midfield of Carrick and Fellaini or Carrick and Bastien even Carrick and Herrera have hardly set the world alight when paired together. I just don't see a viable alternative and Fellaini was being unceremoniously booed only a few weeks ago.

Silva was disappointing in his first season at City, Bale didn't play in a winning side for Spurs for over 25 league games, Vidic and Evra took time to settle, Carrick was only really appreciated once Scholes retired. I could go on and on and on!

From what I've read I think everybody agrees Pogba has considerable talent and potential I think we all need to get some perspective and give the lad time to find his feet.

Danny, some of us did but I was happy to move on as I did with Jose who as think is doing ok so far. I'm not bashing him, I just think it's ok to ask if we should have expected more.

AJH - Fair enough mate, to be honest I think we're all basically saying the same thing!

I don't think many will argue that he's had an underwhelming start to his Utd career especially if we're judging him against the very best as we should.

I tend to disagree with some who appear to be questioning his quality, suggesting he's not good enough and calling for him to be dropped. My opinion is given time he'll be a fantastic signing for us and I just don't think we've got any viable alternatives at the moment to leave him out. All I'm saying is 6 months is not enough time to judge him properly.

Anyone who takes the time to read and post on this site obviously loves Utd and are entitled to their opinions which I respect. I'm not suggesting anyone is wrong I'm just trying to make a balanced argument.

I must confess I'd not seen a lot of Pogba before he joined and I was expecting a lot more from him but I've seen enough to think he can go on and become a real success. I could say the same of Martial. We're blighted by inconsistency at the moment which is probably why we haven't moved up from 6th position in months. Once Pogba, Martial, Miki and a few other's start performing more consistently we'll have a really competitive side. I'm prepared to be patient because I think we're slowly building towards something good.
