Ed004 below you say our signings have not been good enough. Do you mean before last window, or do you not think Ibra, Miki, Pogba and Bailly were good enough? Surely that was a fantastic window?!

{Ed004's Note - I meant the previous windowns. LVG last few were disastrous. How many of them are still here or need replaced? I was delighted with last summers}

To be honest since Sir Alex left only last summer's and possibly Mata have been good enough signings.

Everyone else has been poor. I had high hopes for Schniederlin and Delay. Rojo and Blind I think have proven to be solid squad signings, but we needed to rebuild the first team before we start to upgrade and replace squad fillers.

Our recruitment since Sir Alex left has been scatter gun to say the least.

With players like Ferdinand, Vidic and Evra clearly on their last legs, along with Carrick and few other options in midfield it was clear where we needed to spend.

For all of the talk of cavalier football under Sir Alex it was always built on a solid defence. Bruce/ Palister, Stam/ Johnsen or Ferdinand/ Vidic.

You build a team from the back out, so we should have focused on that.

Then the midfield, Anderson, Cleverly, and aging Carrick and Fletcher recovering from illness. None bar Carrick was good enough at that time, and clearly serious work needed doing to give us a functional midfield. If we focused on those areas in the first couple of windows after Sir Alex had left and brought in real quality in those positions then future managers would just need to add to finishing touches.

Yeah it's been a big waste of money and opportunity on the whole, playing people out of their best positions, not playing new signings regularly, not trusting new signings and generally playing a different way to which most of them have been used to (defence trumps attack for the past 3 managers) .

Mata for me has been underwhelming for the money we spent (a few good games, but not too many jump out), but again he has been played out of position a lot of the time and it's very difficult for creative players in our team because they have so few options to pass the ball, or runners creating space for them. It would be nice to go back 4 years and re-spend the money and make more astute hires, never has there been such a wasted opportunity imo.

Not been on for a long time but totally agree with beast. A kings ransom has been spent and we are no further forward. Too many fans now accept mediocrity. The play is too slow with too many average players.

Utd definitely need a director of football, how many times are we going to buy high end mediocrity at Kings ransom money and sell full blown internationals at bargain basement prices, this cannot be allowed to continue.

A director of football won't be spending the amount asked for for grease-man then! i like him but i don't think he's worth the numbers being quoted.
