I only saw the 2nd half last night. I thought martial worked harder off the ball than he has done all season. Amazing what a final will do. Long may it continue.

He nearly cost us though, with one half-hearted effort to receive the ball. SH player stepped in and went right to goal. I still find Martial incredibly frustrating. I don't think he is that great running into spaces going forward, or doing the running to get back defensively. if he had Lingard's work rate with all that talent, he would be a far better player.

I agree with that z. His running off the ball in an attacking sense is unintelligent and lacklustre to say the least.
His dribbling skills are without question.
But he did work hard last night.
I'm not as convinced as some that he will be a mainstay in the team next season however if we get better players with mire pace and movement around him other than rooney mata and fellaini he could take massive strides.

I think when Rashford came on and took defenders out the game with his run creating a bit of space for atrial to run in to, this is when Martial is most dangerous and we saw that last night when he hit the post. When there is a striker who is a little more static the space becomes compact. I also think Martial is better coming off the left rather than through the middle as he seems to like the ball at his feet with the game in front of him rather than running in behind or on to through balls.

Rashford in my opinion is better through the middle as he makes runs to stretch the defence but I would be excited to see Rashford and Martial playing off of Lukaku.

I don't see too much invention or 'brain power / football intelligence in that front 3 of rash lukaku and martial ports.

That would be a winning system Ports BUT that would mean that we are playing Lukaku as a target man (what he does best IMO) BUT to get it working right that would mean Rash and Martial creating quality goal scoring opportunities for him week in - week out. Is Martial at that level yet?

I think Rashford and Martial have both shown they are competent of going on the outside of defenders and getting balls across. They are both competent of cutting inside too. The runs that Lukaku and Rashford would make and if Martial could add that to his game would create space for all 3 to exploit when they have the ball at their feet and then behind them with Pogba and Herrera you have two players who are more than capable of a creative pass so creating chances I cannot see being a problem. If anything we would be a lot more direct which is something I think we have lacked recently. If we went longer you would have a big strong striker to hold the ball up or flick on for Rashford and Martial to run on to. Essentially if Martial can't get to that level then you have Lingard and Miki to do that roll.

Martial has 6 assists in the league this season. Rashford 1 and Martial has played roughly 10 fewer games. If he can get on every week Martial could be massive for us but he needs to play.
