With Rooney now off to Everyone (thank you for your service Wayne) I do not believe that Jose will be handing the arm band to Carrick. While most of us agree that Herrera is the ideal candidate, I'd like to know who everyone thinks will receive the captaincy.

Remember, that ain't necessarily who you want, rather who do you believe Jose chooses.

My guess is Valencia, however I'd prefer Herrera.

Herrera for me, at the hub of the team, think their is a poll about this, Herrera was leading.

It has to be Herrera. And they need to get him to sign another contract.

Not only does Valencia not speak the lingo he barely speaks full stop so what use is that as a captain, you need your skipper to add some sort of motivation skills and organisation to his team mates and Valencia just dosent, good pro, captain never in a million years. Herrera is clearly the best option of a squad with a real lack of leaders at the moment so I'd go with him.

Herrera but Carrick has got it.

Carrick will get it, carrick won't start 60% of games so who do you think will get it when he doesn't start. (Vice captain)
Herreras the best candidate for me. Pogba is little bit young young for now, but with Jose wouldn't suprise me.

My pick would be Herrera. Plays with passion, is vocal and leads by example. Carrick won't play a lot of games in the upcoming season. No point in selecting a captain who isn't a first choice pick.
I prefer captains to be central midfielders. They are in the perfect position to direct the team, offensively and defensively.
However it all comes down to who are the leaders, sometimes the position is irrelevant.

I'm sure I read that Carrick will be captain with Herrera as vice captain.

It will most likely be Carrick but for me I would give it to DDG. He is the only true world class player in the team and has single handedly stopped United slipping to tenth place in past seasons.

Maze your right about how DDG has performed but the captaincy shouldn't be given for just that, the chosen player should also be the one who can pull the team together when the going gets tough on the pitch and constantly be encouraging or bollocking players who are struggling or not putting the effort in and the onlyplayer we have who imo can do this is Herrera but a captain also needs to lead by example and one of his flaws can be his play acting and lack of control, if he sorts that out then Herrera is my choice.

Firstly Captain is not as major in football as compared to cricket. They need to lead, drive and inspire on the pitch and less importantly have some eloquence representing the club off it. We may have a situation where Carrick is the club Captain but another is team Captain because not sure how much Carrick will play. I hope Carrick is good enough to be phased onto coaching.

I would rule DDG out because in important situations where the Captain speaks to the ref it's not good that they are not close to the action. I would like Herrera as long as his contract is sorted out and wouldn't want him as captain if it becomes contentious. However I wonder if the Captain is going to be Pogba, he certainly has potential to lead, drive and inspire. If not this time very likely next.

Pogba isn't captain material yet by any stretch. A captain needs to be a leader in and off the pitch. Herrera and De Gea are better candidates right now.

Maybe we could sign somebody of captain material, still a way to go in the window?

Herrera or nobody at the minute, we lack leaders. Hopefully Jose signs a real leader.

Beast
I hope not I think you should have to earn the right to captain united.
You also don't need the armband to be a leader.

I'm all for Herrera but as I said before which more than a few people, gave me the thumbs down for I hope he cuts out the theatrics and the whinging if he gets the armband - its very unbecoming to roll around looking to get people booked and getting in the refs face - and before anyone says it No, its not all in the game, we simply have seen standards of behaviour drop and have just accepted it (throughout society actually, from people glued to their mobiles when talking to shop assistants, waiters etc to bonking on big brother as supposed entertainment )

I don't expect the captain to be an angel, got to have passion in playing but some aspects of Herrars on filed antics let him down especially when he seems such a great fella off the pitch.

I tend to agree with Redman - similar to when we had Robbo as club captain and Bruce as team captain. I'd be happy for Carrick and Herrara in those respective roles.
