We've currently got 6 specialist central defenders in the squad (Smalling, Jones, Tunazebe, Bailly, Lindelof, Rojo) plus Blind. We also have TFM, Darmian and even Carrick who can cover the position.

Maybe we will continue from last season and play a back six but I reckon at least one defender will be on their way out.

My guess is it will be either Smalling or Jones and out of the two I'd prefer to keep Jones.

The squad has a really strange balance at the moment and I think it's because Jose is seeing who he can and cannot bring in before he starts selling.

With all the crazy prices ATM I'll be very interested to see how much we get for our out going players. £40 million for Smalling anyone?

I can see one of them going out on a loan towards the end of the window. I wouldn't be surprised if there's already been a couple of tentative approaches.

I can't see a loan happening although I'm sure you are right about there being enquiries for both.

Jones a central defence specialist? The only things he's a specialist in is gurning and getting injured. I would personally sell Jones and keep Smalling as back up.
