Who is the most viable holding midfielder we can sign this window peeps?

We should be making a statement of intent and sign the best dm. Veratti.

Verratti is a fantastic player, but remember, at PSG, most of the time in their MF 3, it was Thiago Motta playing deepest and Verratti and Matuidi playing further ahead. Verratti could play in that role, but he is not an out-and-out defensive midfielder.

He is not a defencive midfielder at All he is a deep lying playmaker the other type of no6 if you like. He dictates the tempo of a game always available always looking to create a perfect foil for herrera and pogba. But jose usually goes for a more destroyer type matic but veratti would be my choice.

Leahy, let me say, though, that Verratti would be first choice of any player. With Pogba and Herrera, we could develop a really dominant midfield.

He can break up the play and create attacks,
Great passer,
Not afraid to get stuck in either,
Reminds me of a pirlo, xavi.
I'd go all out for him if there's any small chance of getting him.

What makes you all think he'd be interested in moving to us.

It's easy to say let's throw x amount of money at PSG but perhaps we've enquired and he's just not interested.

Veratti signing would be immense. My number one target. Add to that Perisic who may not be fancy but is exactly what we need down the wing and take a punt on Sanches who has the talent to succeed. You don't win the European Golden Boy award (over Rashford) and dominate the Euros by chance. Even as more of a box to box MF he's worth the risk in my mind and does provide a defensive shield in his style of play. We need cover with potential injuries and the number of games to come this season. That would be a great window with Lukaku and Lindelof already through the door. I'm confident Lindelof will come good once settled in.

Fabinho is also quality and would work well with current players 😆😆.

Discount. Not all, but most players will move if the right money was offered to the selling club and more importantly, if the buying club offer them the right money.
City barely get 40,000 through the turnstiles and yet they seem to have no problem in convincing the likes of Aguero, de bruyne, silva, toure, walker, mendy to sign. They're even trying to buy Sanchez and if you believe today's papers, Mbappe from Monaco. They simply go there, offer the money and lure the player with a great deal.
We on the other hand, don't do business that way, we like to haggle until a player or the club are uninterested.
It is comments by our own posters like "why should he be interested in us" that are true but sad. We are seen as a bit of a joke in the transfer market and our stock has diminished considerably since the Glazers took over. Even Fergie was making excuses and "No value in the market" when city bought Silva from under our noses for £21m. Toure was thinking of joining us and yet no value in the market came up. We let Hazard go because his agent asked for £5m extra. Can you imagine if these players had and should have been at United. Until we get someone who is pationate about the footballing side, like the owners of psg, Chelsea and City, the footballing side of the business will always come second. I think our own manager has already said that we can't win the league as other clubs are more equipped than us.
This is Manchester United for God's sake. We should not be taking third and fourth choices, we should be strong enough to buy the best of the best. Our owners talk the talk, but they certainly don't walk the walk when it comes to football. I'm sure a lot will see it differently, but at present, the most we can achieve is a battle for top4 . And this will become apparent again when the season starts.
We have not strengthened the fullback positions. We might be buying a 28yr old, limited player in Matic, and we don't have any natural winger. So while the top two teams strengthen and buy the best, we are arguing with clubs over money. Familiar situation but unfortunately a recurring one.
Beast, Red Man and myself and other posters keep pointing the above out our deficiencies, but we're told our team is great and we don't want to become like City and Chelsea. From where I'm standing, they're miles ahead of us and this is exactly what we should be aiming to do.

{Ed025's Note - you broke the world record with the pogba deal last season schmid so your theories dont really hold water mate, you have just bought lukaku as well and yet you moan about not buying top players?, you have been spoilt over the years me thinks..

Disagree with all of that schmid. If anything we have done the opposite the last few years and have paid embarrassingly over the odds for players. Since fergie has retired we have thrown money left right and centre and, quite frankly we have bought poorly. Since Jose has come in we have bought more strategically and with a plan and it seems we do not want to be mugged off this year.

I don't look at city and envy them. I see panic and a lack of a plan. Granted they have bought some fantastic players such as Bernardo silva and mendy, but Jose will get the right players for the system he wants to play and we will be strong this year. Lacking that gold dust in the final third but I trust the club to sort that out. We have been spoilt over the years and to be honest the most important thing is to concentrate on ourselves and not that chequebook fraud manager over at city.

Schmid, ADM springs to mind. We paid the fee, paid him loads and he was pants, probably because he never wanted to some. I understand your wider point but I don't think it is that simple.

Veretti first choice, Fabinho second choice and Matic third choice. I like the other lad from PSG as well Adrien Rabiot.

Verratti is probably my first choice alternatively and I'm not sure if it's at all realistic but I'd like us to look at Weigl. I've not seen him liked at all but I'd love him or verratti.

Schmid has spoken everyone, don't bother asking the eds questions anymore just ask Schmid as he knows all the intricacies of the transfer market.

If what's been printed in media AND on here by eds. Veratti isn't even an option.

So that leaves Matic and i'd be more than happy with him.

Park and tot. You can disagree all you want and the truth if the matter is that when push comes to shove, we get pushed to one side during transfers. Pogba had a history with us and chose to come back as the offer was the right one. This is the point I'm making.
Do you not agree or remember Fergie telling us all there's no value while city bought Silva for £21m. We went for 6 years and didn't buy a decent midfielder as the value was not right apparently. And we all know that Silva, toure and hazard have been great value for their resoective teams.
You say that there's no plan at City. Are you seriously that blinkered that you can't see what Guadiolla is trying to do there? He's strengthened all their weak points, fullbacks and GK. He's bought a fantastic playmaker and he'd already strengthened the wing and attack by bringing in sanÄ— and Jesus. So if you think there's no plan or we should just ignore what they do then we do so at our peril. In business, you always want to know what the competition do so you can react. Problem is that I don't see us doing that.

Schmid

I couldn't believe we let Aguero go to City as well. It's Glazernomics, people forget that the sale of Ronaldo made the difference between loss and profit. Not decrying Valencia but as a replacement for Ronaldo?

It's about time we really made a statement but I would be surprised if we did, no value in the market anyone?

Glazers, no more excuses.
