Shaw was rubbish but i suppose its to be expected after his near 2 year lay off. Fittness is one thing but being continuously out of position is a big concern it will require a bit of time and patience to see if he can show he can do it at utd. but if i was a betting man i'd put ny money on him playing for another club next season. I agree on Wilson too but that is one of the worst performances I've seen from our reserves for years.

Ken. I've been saying for some time that Shaw is not what people are making him to be. His positioning is terrible. His first touch is non existent. And his mentality leaves a lot to be desired. I'll sell him in a heart beat and I'll bet he'll never make a success of his career. Get rid Jose.

Stop being so optimistic schmidfield.

Schmid if he is getting a chance it has to be a fair chance. Its going to take him about 10 games to regain timing fitness and confidence so i'd be prepared to wait and put up with a few indifferent performances. Will he make it his position long term i'd say he is a less than even money bet.
Rose is also injury prone but great when fit bertrand is decent i really like tierny and think he looks like a modern day Stuart pearce but has little experience. Blind is steady but not dynamic enough for me and darmian is a right back and is the opposite to dynamic. i'd like to see one of those 3 come in just in case shaw breaks down again or just doesn't cut it.

Shaw gets a lot of credit on this site when he hasn't really done anything to deserve it in my opinion since he joined the club. A number of managers have called out his poor attitude and lifestyle, and he hasn't managed to put 5 good games together since he has been with us. On top of that, unfortunate leg break aside he is always injured. I'd love him to be the answer to our left back position, but I think we will see Danny Rose taking his position sooner rather than later.

The performance was awful from everyone.

The performance was not impressive but I have to admit Shaw disappointed me. I expected more from him TBH.

Hi Yaz why did you expect more from him if you don't mind me asking. He hadnt played for years and when he did play he never did it for a sustained period at a decent level so a poor showing is no surprise really.

Bit harsh. He was very good before his injury. Got up and down very quickly and was a threat going forward. The disappointment has been his lifestyle choice, contributing to his inability to get fit enough to play consistently. He's clearly got the ability, it's just the mental side if his game isn't up to scratch.

Ken,
Cos he has played (even as a Southampton player) well above the level of the reserves.

Yes the horrific injury and yes he's coming back from a layoff but I expected him to be a bit of shoulders above the players.

But he wasn't, matter of fact he was caught up out of position several times and had to be backed up by Tuanzebe.

He gave the ball away a couple of times and didn't produce anything worthy of note.

In the first half, he ran up the opponent's 18 yard box twice one of which he didn't cross but had to come back when the player marking him was open. He didn't support Boonen in attack but maybe it was the game tactic as set by the coach.

Matter of fact, in the first half, the only time you'd have known shaw was on the pitch was when he had to throw in the ball.

And there was no organisation, or leadership from him either. As a "senior" player, you'd expect him to bark out a few words and also motivate the young lads but he looked devoid of inspiration himself.

Needless to say, I couldn't finish watching out of frustration.

BTW, it doesn't mean he's suddenly a bad player or that he won't come good. I'm just saying what I saw.

Yaz i agree with some of that. But he has not strung 10 games together at a really high standard for 3 years.
It will take him time so i don't think people should expect too much too soon. I think jose must have been just doing hin a favour by keeping him at the club.

I do agree. But you know the saying "class is permanent".

Maybe because I really want him to do well. It's one of the reasons I wasn't too keen on us getting a left back because I have high hopes.

But as you said, hopefully a bit of momentum will get him back in groove.

Understandable Yaz. Even on the team we support Most fans have their favourites and other players that they just don't see what others see. For me Shaw is in the latter group.
I would like him to do well of course but i just don't see it happening.

I'm all for giving someone a bit of time. But Shaw has been here for some time, and even before the injury, he didn't show that he was consistently good. He played the odd good game.
Three extremely experienced managers have all pointed at his lifestyle choice and inability to keep himself fit. Unprofessional in every way.
Then he got the injury and things went from bad to worse.
I can't remember many games when he was outstanding. A lot of huff and puff and nothing to show for it.
Blind is not my favourite left back, but he's miles better than Shaw and conducts himself professionally.
