This has to be the worst England team in my lifetime, there is nobody world class and many that are bang average. We have been blessed over the years with some very good footballers and whilst we didn't win anything, we went in with optimism, based on the likes of Scholes, Lampard, Gerard, Rooney and if we go back further, Gazza, Lineker or even further, Robson, Wilkins, and even further, Brooking and Keegan.

You look at the team now and see Livermore, Bertrand, Walker, Hart. Ox, to name just a few who do nothing to suggest they are good enough at the highest level. It's very sad and I don't see England competing anÅ· time soon.

It has been this way since carlton palmer donned the jersey and even before that. Defeatest it may be snd certainly unpopular but the foreigners have had a bad effect on the gsme. The scots have no souness, strachan or hansen, eales no southall, ratcliffe, or hughes, not to mention the irish. I think er go back to patking the bus and hitting on the break. let me hear ythe discent to this . england academy my hoop.

Tactics all wrong, team selection all wrong, attitude all wrong. Fa from top to bottom needs addressing. Can't even beat a few librarians and retail workers.

They are poor. They both habe decent scoring records jred but i agree they don't reach the heights they do for spurs. but then again they play with better players at spurs.

That's as bad as I've seen Ali play he has 2 goals in 20 games for England? .
they also play against better players.

A midfield of Livermore and Henderson. Woefully un-inspiring.

It's shocking ed, England have been a poor watch for a long time now.

{Ed025's Note - very much so jred, i hate internationals and england one,s in particular mate..

Ed 025 I've completely lost interest lately when I was younger I loved it but endless years of uninspiring dross has ground me down and our fa's seemingly bored approach to the whole set up leaves a bitter taste in my mouth tbh anyone would think we don't want to compete! It's all a bit sad.

{Ed025's Note - your right deano..

You have to go back to the 90s pal to see a England team play with a bit of passion .
They look over coached trying to be something there not .
In fact they look scared.

Can't stand what England as football team represent both on and off the pitch and behind the scenes at the FA. Woeful neglect at all levels, coaching very poor and inacessable to all except for the rich and ex professionals. A disgrace and want no part of it.

i was in hanley stoke a couple of years ago in the indoor market and gordon banks was opening a store i told my eldest daughter to shake his hand as it will be the only world cup winner she will see in her lifetime.

I was reading these comments before I knew the score. I assumed we drew then I looked at a newspaper and found England had won 4-0.

I was working In birmingham city centre when euro 96 was on jred I've not seen anything like it it was brilliant maybe if we'd won that tournament like we should have things would be different.

I'm loathe to admit it but I honestly don't care about the national side anymore .

Didn't England youth teams just have a pretty good summer? Sometimes I wonder what everyone is smoking on here 😂.

Jred, I could have named a few more. I don't see the hype with Ali even when he is playing for Spurs. Rumour had it Henderson might be made captain of England, that tells us just how little talent we have in this country.

When we play a top team we will get battered, perhaps the continued influx of foreign players is finally having the imps we all feared it would.

Couldn't agree more, now Rooney isn't playing they have no one to hide behind maybe people will see the team for what it is
Deano
How good was 96 a bit of pride and passion.

England aren't as good as they used to be during Shearer's or Lampard's days.
But we still have a few good players like Kane, Ali, Rashford, Walker and Sturridge.
It is the midfield and defense that I am worried about. No rocks like Terry, Rio, Lampard, Scholes, etc.
That was one of England's strengths in the last 2 decades.

21.) 02 Sep 2017
02 Sep 2017 09:36:33
Yes they won. But its how they played that's the concern. Germany could have put their B team out in that game and hit double figures. God knows what they'd have done to Malta.

22.) 02 Sep 2017
02 Sep 2017 09:53:08
Euro 96 was amazing, I was a bit young for Italia 90 but do remember watching some of the games. Should have been our trophy in both years but the usual penalty debacles halted those dreams.

I don't even check the England scores most of the time now. Watching them was worse than watching United under certain managers of late, and we know once the World Cup comes around that we'll be dogsh*t again and go out with a wimper, so what's the point?

Roll on Stoke away.

23.) 02 Sep 2017
02 Sep 2017 10:39:37
I think rashford has really took to international football and often looks the best player on the pitch even in cameo appearances . It's not all doom and gloom with England Kane, Ali, rashford, walker, and rose are highly coveted players though I agree with above posts that Ali has been disappointing for England so far and the depth in centre midfield is very worrying . but trying to put a positive spin we have beat France and also Germany away in last couple of year and the team is pretty young and the under 21 sides are doing well in global tournaments.

24.) 02 Sep 2017
02 Sep 2017 11:57:52
Id have played 4 out of that starting 11, Bertrand, Jones, Alli and Kane. The rest verge from awful to average.

25.) 02 Sep 2017
02 Sep 2017 18:45:05
With England traditionally the players have known they're making the squad and appear to have too much control they don't even have to 'play' for their position anymore, joe hart? Has been one of the luckiest players ever to win what he has because he is absolutely shocking, yet starts for England. We need a manager with a bigger ego than the players, some like your man, who'll take no crap from anybody, none of this drink driving/ partying/ strippers crap.

26.) 02 Sep 2017

Looking at the French squad compared to England it's an embarrassment how a big football nation like England don't have world class players pogba Kante Greissman lemar mpabbe lacacette lloiris wouldn't bored watching them.
