Tomorrow Rooney returns and he should be given a great reception, a standing ovation. I hope he is and the crowd show the appreciation for our leading goal scorer of all time.

There are the arguments about his previous contract dispute, threatening to leave which some feel taints him, but he is a long way from the only one to do that, he was fighting for a better contract. These arguments should be considered but understood given the part Rooney has played in the club honours over many years.

There are disappointments, if he had utilised his talent shown in early years he could have been an all time world great but he didn't. In recent years his play noticeably declined, our memory of him was not so much the fabulous footballer in the earlier years but the struggles more recently. The last contract he was given was ill judged in my opinion, however, the decline in his play shouldn't let us forget what went before. The recent situation has been brilliantly managed without rancour and for that we should be pleased as it enables us to hail one of our legends tomorrow.

Lastly, a little known story about Rooney that I feel is worth airing here. When it became known that one of our greats, Nobby Stiles was struggling with Alzheimer's, only one letter came from a United player, past or present, other than Sir Bobby Charlton and that was Rooney. Perhaps there was more to him after all, just a pity he didn't take that next step to world greatness, nevertheless he deserves acolades tomorrow.

Don't think there is any doubt about him getting a great reaction, he always did at the stadium anyway even when people on here were calling him all sorts. I am looking forward to chanting his name then booing when he gets the ball!

I had read that anecdote redman.
Rooney is not the devil he is a very charitable person he raises plenty of money and more importantly gives up plenty of his time for children's charities. He does make poor choices but who doesn't.
He will get a great reception for his service and achievements.

Great player, pretty unpleasant man. He should and will get applauded for his achievements but as a bloke, he's pretty shocking.

Like Ronaldo, Beckham etc Il clap him before the game and that's it, no big fuss and certainly no excitement over his return, I seriously could not care less about it, I'm just looking forward to seeing my team and hopefully a good performance and 3 points.
