Hi ed002,

With catalans seeming to separate from spain, how probable is it for barcelona to join other leagues?
I would really love them to be in premier league playing along side man united, city, chelsea. The league would really be something.

I have no idea how genuine the chance is but would love everyones opinion as well.

{Ed002's Note - I am not sure how you have interpreted the attempts at a referendum but I would not have any thoughts about Barcelona ever playing in the EPL.}

I would’ve thought EPL is for teams in UK. Not sure why would they want to admit Barcelona?
If that happens then I am sure how you would have any distinction?
Unless there is a break away to form a Super League afterwhich EPL will lose attraction. This Super League might come about amidst the discussion around the top teams in EPL asking for more money for TV rights ie Man Utd, City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool. Perhaps the Super League might include the likes of RM, Barcelona etc. However at the moment I feel the top EPL teams have to agree first as this is probably the most competitive and exciting league for me.

Why on earth would you think Barcelona would ever play in the EPL?

{Ed001's Note - because the head of the Catalan FA has already said they would apply to join the English leagues if they achieve independence.}

As long as they know their place, and they're happy to start in a lower tier, like Celtic or Rangers would have to, then I've no problem with it :)

And he's only said they'd apply to England because of the tv money. Its a no from me.

It seems like a weird question but it is a possibility. Catalan independence can let them choose the league they want to play in. I just did not have much idea if it was a valid argument, the reason why I asked to Ed002.

Thank you for explaining the situation ed001. I guess some posters are yet to be aware of it.

{Ed001's Note - no worries, if is highly unlikely but they could apply to join anyway.}

Hi Srestha totally comprehende no worries. Wasn’t having a go at you. But in terms of distance I am not sure if that’s really feasible. That’s where I am coming from not so much disrespect to your question. 🙏
I must admit anything can happen and will be interesting to see what happens. Afterall look at who the POTUS is so I won’t be surprise at anything else 😂.

I understand mate. No worries.

I too think it is highly unlikely but EPL definitely would be something if it was to happen.

Why would a top English club give up the extra spot for a Champions League place? Wouldn't happen. Not even Celtic and Rangers could join.

I would agree with that Syd. 👍.

Isn't it more likely to trigger the start of the breakaway European super league? Top teams from various leagues all leaving and starting something new, been talked about for a few years now and this would seem a plausible trigger to get it started.
