You have to wonder why a manager would play a player with an ankle injury when the team has already qualified and won the group and are already 3.0 up with 20 mins to go. Is the manager a moron? Surely you let the ankle heal?

Lukaku would have wanted to play. But the manager has to use common sense and no football would have been more beneficial to all sides, player, Belgium and Manchester United.

There was a story about someone phoning Martinez and asking him to rest Fellaini and Lukaku.

His decision to play Lukaku while he was recovering from an injury and in a game that was meaningless (not only did they not need to win, they were 3-0 up when he threw Lukaku on) .

It feels a little like spite, like he wants to show that no one can tell him what to do. It's a risky decision, because all games between now and the summer are friendlies which he will need to use to get his team used to playing together and to integrate younger or inexperienced players to get them ready in case they are needed next summer. I highly doubt Fellaini or Lukaku will be available for those games now. I expect they will have a knock in training or in a match just before any friendlies taking them out of contention.

It just shows a lack of either experience or common sense from Martinez. I expected more from him.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Jose called Martinez after the Fellaini injury and they had an argument. Then the Lukaku bit was done in spite. Doesn't really matter now, but very petty if this was the case.

Agree with Shappy. Martinez has that ego about him and usually wants to display authority. What’s the use of authority when there is no brains present? You just have to ask the current US President 😂😂😂.
