Nice idea, but why would people risk the huge salaries they can earn elsewhere?

Exactly AJH, we have tried the route of paying so called World Class managers huge basic salaries and they haven't delivered success, granted it's early with Jose but neither he nor LVG have delivered Man Utd quality on the pitch. We are seen too much as an easy cash cow, the sack equals a massive pay off and hearts don't seem to be in it (still living in a hotel for example) .

This will only attract those that truly believe they have what it takes and will dedicate every minute of every day to figuring out how to score more than the opposition and in large numbers. It will attract hunger and belief, attack minded managers. At the minute we have safety first, it's getting us nowhere fast. The benefits of delivering these targets are vast compared to regular salaries and bonuses I'd imagine, so it's put your money where your mouth is time.

Beast, you have way too much time on your hands, lad.

Nice idea won't happen though. You would also want the players to sign a similar contract and not only the manager.

So basically you mean to recruit the manager of the dog and duck who just wants the job, and if no results come in then that's ok as we are not paying him anything.

Or are you thinking a world class manager would take that on even though they possibly have 20-40 million in the bank already so wouldn't be arsed either way . maybe a "secret boss"type scenario. end of season league won, fa cup won our new manager pulls off a false beard and glasses to reveal he is really Carlo Ancelotti?

Love the image BoyFromBurrenWay, kind of like how I suspected LVG was really Kenny Dalgleish all along and waited for the big reveal that never came.

I really do need to get a life though.

I think you'd be surprised how many potentially world class managers would be up for the challenge, it would certainly separate those that talk a good game from those that truly believe they can deliver.

Beast. If Heineken did football managers, it will be like the ones you mentioned 😊😊.

I think performance based pay is a great idea, but it usually comes with a salary of some sort albeit a lower one. So Mr Salesman, you can have an annual salary of £50K with no bonus, or an annual salary of £25K with the opportunity to earn up to £100K based on the results you deliver. Most of us would take the lower salary and bust our nuts to get to £100K.

The problem in football is that the top Managers (and players) just don't need the money, they are already minted. If you earn £5M-£10M every year what does another few million do for you?

Beast

I think you need to research intrinsic verses extrinsic motivation.

If you believe money is the only motivating factor of success then you have the wrong player, manager or janitor. Simples.

I actually think that would have the opposite effect and result in another LvG / Mourinho-esque manager, who would grind out results in order to achieve certain bonuses. Plus, clubs already have bonus schemes in place for this sort of thing.

I, personally, don't care about winning titles so I'd just get a manager who clearly likes football. I don't support United because of it. I just want to turn on the game and enjoy it, win, lose or draw.
