Hope everyone had a nice Christmas and New Year! Not a transfer rumour but a question regarding Mourinhos future, I know he has said he is happy to stay but I was just curious to what capacity United would look to extend his contract? Thanks in advance.

{Ed002's Note - I don’t understand the question.}

Hi ed002, I know you said in your opinion if Mr Mourinho was offered an early exit in the summer he might be inclined to take it. Given his recent media statement regarding wanting to stay/ extend do you still think he wouldn't mind an early exit from his existing deal.

{Ed002's Note - He knows know that the interested sides have other targets. I would not pay any heed to what he says.}

I say give him the deal and back him. Otherwise we are just playing around. Who else is there right now?

Surely you earn deals. Has Mourinho earned a new contract, for me - absolutely not. Does he want a new contract, doesn't look like it again to me. He gives off the appearance of a man having promised something many moons ago and now feeling obligated to fulfill it, despite regretting the day he made the oath over an expensive bottle of red.

Jose seems to be giving off 2 differing signals with his words atm, 1) he wants to stay for many years and 2) he is laying foundations for future managers suggesting he won’t be here long.
I am happy at José and his words of late, they suggest commitment and longer term planning, maybe he has had backing and promises from the board but does he deserve a new deal, it’s a tough one, he has brought us to a point where we are much improved in terms of league position, points, goals than at any time since Fergie left, any other season we would be in a real title fight but this isn’t a regular season, I think we need to step back and say well done pep and city, I said he'd not do it playing that way in the prem, I was very wrong, so I think Jose gets some unfair stick as what more can he do in terms of league position.
The sticking point seems to be the same as over the last 3 managers, they do not play the United way, we see glimpses of it but Jose is to pragmatic to let it play out a full 90 mins, but it begs the question who else is there out there atm?
Isn’t it true we are making strides forward and maybe just maybe sticking not twisting this time and building with more financial backing will be the way for us to get back to the top.
Jose moans but he is a great deflector. I believe he lives in a serviced apartment in the Lowry with a personal chef, a far cry from him living out of a suitcase in a hotel. Jose is the type who needs to feel wanted and valued, I think we should be more grateful for where he has brought us or maybe he will throw his toys out the pram, we knew this trait in him pre signing him.
On the other hand 4/ 5 years since Fergie left and we’ve not seen this united tradition of playing good football and I don’t think we will see this style under Jose, not for long periods anyway.
Fergie was the ideal, bought into our traditions, played the right way and had that abrasive us v them mentality, a mix of Jose and pep perhaps, there is nobody like that now, and unfortunately Jose’s job is to to win and get us back to the top, he’s won trophies and he’s improved us, so I guess he is doing his job well.
It’ll all play out this season/ summer but when push comes to shove I hope we stick by him and he by us and keep some stability at the club backing a proven winner.

Good post Welsh, I can’t warm to Jose but you lay out the position pretty accurately.

Totally agree Welsh - this is a freak season and without city being frankly ridiculous we would be challenging for the title which considering where we have been sin SAF left is astounding.

The point on stability cannot he underestimated. We need crave it as a club and our player recruitment of recent years shows just what a mess we have been. Jose wins things. Back him and enjoy the ride and we might just see some more consistent and enjoyable footy. To be honest, this season has been pretty decent in my opinion and we are travelling in the right direction albeit slowly.
