First off i am not English but England would be my third choice team to win it. Sorry.

Now, i have been reading and witnessing the support the team is getting on this page even though the football/ style has been poor, probably the poorest of all the 4 remaining teams. So, my question is why the double standards when it comes to supporting United? Why all the crap negativity there?

The constant sniping at england is just as boring as our style of play .

I'd have thought the difference is lots of countries started the world cup with better teams than England but England are playing to their full potential, they are amongst the highest scorers and have large possession of the ball . England score lots from set plays well teams have to deal with that it's a big part of the game.
England face well you haven't had to play much, Colombia or Sweden but Sweden beat France in qualifying for the world cup, finished ahead of the Dutch, knocked Italy out and at the world cup hammered Mexico, beat the Swiss and Koreans and only loss was last minute to the Germans . They maybe aren't a great team but everyone else has had real problems with them .

I suspect this is a wind up but I'll bite anyway!

It's our first WC semi final for 28 years and it's now 22 years since that magical summer in 96 which represents the last time when we could all feel proud of a English side. I'd like to wager a bet that a good number of posters weren't even alive the last time England played in a semi final of a major tournament.

In relation to the style did you watch England under Taylor, McClaren, Capello or Hodgson? As your not English I suspect not so let me tell you it was not a pleasant experience, more akin to watching paint dry.

Southgate has broken down barriers, selected players on merit not reputation, had a clear vision of how he wants the team to play and even won a penalty shootout. He has prepared the team properly, took it seriously, realised that to progress we'll probably need to win a shootout and planned accordingly, we've practised, used psychologist, left nothing to chance.

Finally we have an England team that can keep the ball, play with some imagination and fluidity and done the things we've good at. Worked hard, been organised, been a threat on set pieces. Above all we've been competent, confident, played for each other and without being spectacular we've beaten the teams that we really should be beating, rarely looked threatened and dominated. Don't be fooled Columbia reached the semi's of the Copa America in 2016 and reached the QF of the 2014 WC narrowly losing to the hosts Brazil. Sweden knocked Italy out in the play offs and topped the group above Germany. No push overs by any means!

Nobody's getting carried away, we haven't faced a Germany, Spain, France or Brazil but we've taken care of business which Germany and Spain failed to do and they're out!

Scoring from set pieces appears to be used as a stick to beat England when in fact it should be recognised as a sign of great management and preparation. It was absolutely paramount y'day used to break a fantastically well drilled and organised Sweden. If Spain worked as hard on their set pieces maybe they'd be still in the competition.

Are we excited dam right, I hope that answers your question.

Deano this wasnt a snipe at England buddy. Its just that it would be great if our beloved club got the same support from the so called fans rather than "constant sniping"

UA, England only this tournament have had some backing as they are exceeding expectations.
Every other tournament there is usually a lot of negativity.

Why the double standards. that is because we expect more from United and England are exceeding our expectations.

We expect a certain style and performance from United whilst winning competitions.

That is why.

England A have not lost a game yet, and by the end of the tournament we can say the only team we lost to was Belgium and the only team Belgium lost to was England how GREAT and FANTASTIC would that be.

If it stops you lads going on about 1966, then bring it on! Seriously, I hope you do it, even with a vested interest in Belgium and Croatia.

Ok, let me try and be rational with this.

United have been dour, safety first, and we have players who do not play to their potential. That is the issue I have with out style. Protect your goal first, try and score second.

As for England, they look to play forward, they try things, and the players are playing to their potential. The Manage treats them like adults, understands they are people with individual needs, who understands that the team is more important than the individual. Southgate rarely talks about himself or seeks to take credit, he uses ‘we’ not ‘I’.

Ask yourself this. Watching the World Cup, is Pogba playing better for France than he does for United? Does Lukaku look more dangerous? Is Jesse enjoying his football? My answer would be yes to al of those things.

As for England, they have not been fantastically impressive but they have dealt efficiently with every team put in front of them, the character they showed having conceded on the last minute against Colombia was impressive. Yes they haven’t played a ‘big’ team but Italy didn’t qualify, Spain went our early, and the rest of them are in the other half of the draw. You can only beat who is in front of you and England have generally been useless at tournaments. We have turned up with a team of stars and failed miserably, be it in the group or on penalties; losing to Iceland was a particular low.

We have beaten who we needed to beat, we look like we are enjoying it and above all, the players are playing to their potential and playing as a team. Belgium were pants against Japan until they had a golden half hour. France were patchy but are now coming into form, apart form that has anyone looked great? Certainly no better than England.

I remember 1982, I remember 1990,I remember 1996. We’ve lost on penalties so many times, as well as silly defeats against teams we should have beaten. Right now I am watching Harry McGuire look like a colossus, John Stones becoming the player we worried he would, Trippier stepping up, Pickford demonstrating he has huge cojones, Sterling scaring the pants off the opposition, Kane being Kane, Southgate being dignified and articulate, and I am proud to be English.

Great post. Too many times we've mucked up. 90, 96 an 98 were bad but that's penalties. The 2010 an 2014 teams were the worst I've ever seen. And the less said about Iceland the better. This teams restored belief.

Fantastic post Tony. I’m sick of the negativity on this site at times tbh. People always complaining or moaning. England haven’t been in a semi final for 28 years. They can win the tournament. The team have such a great vibe around them that I have never seen from an English team in my time. This team makes me proud to be English and I am going to enjoy it. I don’t care how we play or how we do it, but I want to win the World Cup because that is all that matters. It’s not how you get there, it’s just about getting there.

Ive been wishing England Southgate and all the players well. Great time to be an England supporter. I remember irelands run in 1990 and loved the togetherness it brought to the whole country. So enjoy it.
I like to see all the united lads do well.
With England Belgium and France going deep into the tournament it leaves the door wide open for martial and shaw to come in early and cement a place in the team. Young lukaku jessie rash fellaini jones pogba will have to have an extended holiday i'm sure so along with the 2 mentioned above herrera fred mata dalot rojo all have to do enough to give the manger some selection problems.

Sick of the negativity park? Its been 3 weeks only. Imagine coming on this page for the whole year and seeing nothing but this from the same lot like Tony who is now trying to put a positive spin. Southgate is being touted the messiah.

UA it's a team that gets together a couple of times a year. It's a magnificent achievement to get to a world cup semi final.

The likes of tony has the right to put a positive spin on It. It's been 28 years since England got this far and over 50 years since they last won it.

Your posts are quite ridiculous.

Think England are a great example of a team playing for each other, playing to there potential and a manager getting the best out of his team .
Happy days.

UA I’ve been coming on this page for years so I fully well know how negative it has been. And as you will know I have always been one of the more positive posters and generally backed the manager and club. You say Tony is negative - perhaps, but then is is a far more experienced fan and has seen things in a different time so has a different perspective. Do I think he is right? Not always. But when I sometimes think we should sacrifice style for substance, he does remind us that united were built on playing the United way and that we must entertain the fans. At the end of the day I have found this site very negative, especially at the end of last season. I expect it to return when we lose a game next season. But we all want the best for united.

Why do you have to bring up united when everyone is trying to enjoy england’s Run in the World Cup? I know what you are trying to say but quite frankly I have not thought about united these past three weeks because I’ve enjoyed supporting my country successfully for the first time in my life. For young fans such as myself, this is he first time I have ever been involved in the national euphoria and excitement of potentially winning a major international trophy. And when the tournament is finished, i will switch my focus back to my beloved united and support all the players and the manager as we look to return to the top. Nowbody this Southgate is the messiah. Nobody thinks we are playing incredible football. But we are just enjoying england not flopping for once. That doesn’t mean Southgate should be a top 6 manager. He’s just doing a great job as a national manager and is rightly being praised. You say you felt pain when england have gone out in the past and I’m sure you have. But if you are not English then it’s difficult for you to feel real pain perhaps the way we have. Likewise when wales went out in the euros I could not feel the same pain as a native welsh fan. It’s a bit irritating for me when people spout of negatitivity when this has been such an incredible World Cup for all.
