Which is what he is. Overpaid for another youngster. Like Martial.

Every year a player becomes the current scapegoat. Introducing Mr Luke Shaw.

Its not a scapegoat AJH. Shaw is just plain infuriating. He has all the potential and all the facilities in the world to maximise his game. He choses not too. Plays well then starts coasting in training. Apparentley he was working with fitness coaches all summer. He looks no different to me. This should have been his pre season. The LB spot is there for the taking. He should be hungry to prove we don't need to spend another 60 mill. Again. He choses not too.

From what I have seen, Shaw is solid defensively but offers very little going forward. He can burst forward with the ball after an interception, but he cannot beat a man down the line and whip in a cross and he has no dribbling ability to beat a man whatsoever. He also is not great with moving quickly off the ball. When fit, he can defend well and get up and down the flank, but that's it. He hasn't shown he can create goals in the final third.

Scapegoat AJH 😂😂 How many years has he been there now? And still behind a converted winger and a RB playing at LB.

Shaw a scapegoat? I can’t even count on one hand the number of times he’s played well for us. Dreadful athlete, average footballer, move him on if possible.

I thought jose was the scapegoat ajh.
Shaw is not nor ever has been made a scapegoat imo. He just has never lived up to his billing. Some of it his own doing some bad luck. He had one good season as an 18 year old. And has not played 10 consecitive games in 4 years. Every coach he has ever played under has critisised his professionalism. He is not a scapegoat he has just not delivered for himself or for the team.
He will probably start the season for us at lb. I think everybody wants him to do well can he turn it around win his place and keep it by being undropable when young and valencia come back? I doubt it because i have close to zero faith in him based on the last for years not 1 good season at Southampton nearly 5 years ago as a kid.

In answer to the original question Shaw was our worst player by a distance last night, we broke with pace and speed on the counter, Sanchez was on a different level and every time it went to Shaw the attack ended, either with a dreadful pass or a cross out of play. In the end he was removed for TFM and I would imagine Jose has seen enough, I’m surprised we have not been linked with Sandro this morning.

GDS, he played well the first two games, so why should one below-par game have made José's mind up about him? Are young players not allowed a bad game any more?

Probably something to do with the last number of years nou. That's probably helped Jose make his mind up.
