Mmmm a little quiet on here this morning.
Sanchez played well last night
Fred played well for his 1st start.
Overall it was satifactory considering the team available.
I see poch moaning about the transfer window and whinging about it closing early and being at a disadvantage. Not sure he will get as much media attention for his comments.

I think sanchez has played well all preseason. I'd actually prefer to have him playing to his full potential than have another shiny new player. I think an in form sanchez could be the difference maker and creative spark we need.

As I mentioned in my post below Jose's comments last night don't fit in with the narrative some are pushing so most of them will be pushed under the carpet. He called the players commitment 'phenomenal' so expecting to see that quote everywhere.

Pre-season results mean nothing but the performances are more important the closer we get to the season and some players look in good form which has to be a positive.

Beat Madrid all our players must be world class.

Looks like joss has had a dressing down nice to see him change his tune in the press conference.

Like I said yesterday always 2 sides .
Anything negative is pushed by some and dismissed by others and vice versa.

Sanchez could be like a nramd new signing this season. It’s amazing what a couple of wins and good performances will do the mood early on.

Gets a lot of stick our attack but we have some very good players. A match winning Sanchez playing at his best will make a huge difference.

AJH a couple of wins? 1 win is not a couple. don't let 1 result paint over the cracks in the wall.

Seosamh,

I think AJH means when we get a couple of wins early on in the season, nobody cares about pre-season results, or at least nobody should care, especially with the teams we had out.

jred, nobody saying all our players are world class, it was a decent performance though which is a positive but still lots of players to come back in who are not going to be up to speed.

One thing I loved last night as they were walking off at half time Sanchez was giving the defence a kick up the arse for the lack of concentration on the goal, he is a born winner and hates losing any game, we need more of that.

Spot on GDS, if we start well everyone will be buzzing. We played a second string, lost to Liverpool, and it was a disaster. We then beat Madrid with the same team and some press are saying it was because they had their second string out. We really can’t win. SAF used to use this to our advantage, us against the world, let’s hope Jose can do the same.

I know we have some players to shift and some gaps to fill still, I’m not convinced Pogba will be here much longer either, but if the likes of Sanchez, Lukaku, Fred, Matic can hit their A game then it will lift the others. If we do sell Rojo, Darmian, and or Smalling, and possibly Pogba, then I expect we will splash the cash, not always a good thing but if players are unhappy then they need to move.

I suspect the next week will be very busy.

Pre season is nothing to ever really go by. The real thing about the likes of sanchez is that he will never hit the full potential with the style of play under Jose.

In regards to players being sold and bringing new players in, haven't we been slating liverpool for their spending recently and if we bring in 2 players that will match theirs? If you ask me its all becoming a bit embarrassing.

I think if the players start to click then Jose will go with the flow. Sanchez could be a game changer; was pants last year but we all know he is much better than we saw in the second half of the season.

I think Jose is obsessed with defence, not always a bad thing, it if Lukaku, Sanchez, Lingard, Mata, Rashford, new signing (! ) can hit it off then I don’t see Jose telling the, to stop. Whatever we did last year worked up to a point, perhaps a few changes will push us on.

Listen to me, getting giddy for a new season, I need to have a stern word with myself.

Tony I think we will surprise a few people this season. We have some very good players and it is jose’s Job to get them playing to their full potential. He hasn’t found a way yet but by improving the midfield and defence it should release the shackles a bit. We lost the midfield battle far too much last season with pogba neglecting his duties and matic being overrun. With Fred/ pereira we will have a nice blend of attack and defence. A fit and firing sanchez playing of Lukaku is mouth watering and I cannot wait to see it in full flow. Things aren’t as awful as they seem and the squad unity looks good. I don’t buy into this notion that criticising in public is bad for morale. It is clear Jose is a completely different person behind doors and that this is just a persona for the media. It’s not always pretty but that’s just his way. I don’t necessarily like some of the comments he makes but I just take them with a pinch of salt. Looking forward to the start of the season.

Seosam,

I have just looked at your posts and you are negative about the club in every one of them, sounds like you are just trying to troll for the sake of it to be honest. Why is it embarrassing if we sell players and buy new ones to improve the squad? As a fan surely that is what you want.

15.) 01 Aug 2018
01 Aug 2018 14:17:15
It’s interesting Park, you look at how Southgate got the most out of a limited England side, good team spirit, no egos (other than Kane), and perhaps a bit of a shake up might actually have positive results.

I only hope Jose is not as unhappy as he has seems and its just a ploy to get Woody to get his chequebook out.

16.) 01 Aug 2018
01 Aug 2018 14:29:20
I think you are spot on Tony. Perhaps the foundations have been there from last year and we just need one or two more to get us challenging properly. I like the look of the youngsters that seem to be integrating into the squad. I would much rather see the likes of Tuanzebe, pereira, Timbo get a chance to stake a claim rather than spend obscene amounts on squad players who may not even settle. It’s our tradition to develop and promote from within and I think these boys are ready to step up.

There is clear progress but the style is still an issue. I cannot remember the media ever being so negative towards united or a manger. Sure Fergie would have a pop at the media but he pretty much had them in his back pocket. They were almost scared of him. Jose has his own style with the media. Can be very depressing to watch especially after a defeat. But I think we just have to accept the way he is. Clearly the players do respect him and he is building a decent squad. But he needs to get a tune out of our world class players. Let’s see what will happen. Scoring has been a problem for us rather than conceding. I think we will be tough to beat. But I want to see us blow teams away. Not sit back after scoring the first goal and inviting pressure. From the first whistle we should be terrorising the opposition, especially at home. We have the players to do it. Let’s wait and see whether Jose does it.

GDS2 I am not. I'm not saying its a problem but the embarrassing bit is that the fans and Jose both called Liverpool out on what they've spent and if we buy say 2 more players then well match their spending so what was all the complaining about? that's the embarrassing part of it all. The negativity comes at Jose, he's trying to get himself sacked just like he does at every other club. He was brought in for short term success and stability which has came in the form of second rate trophys but trophys all the same. Now the squad is littered with quite a few 30 somethings and then where does that leave the club after?

18.) 01 Aug 2018
01 Aug 2018 15:02:15
Which 30 somethings did he sign? Are you blaming him on players getting older now year by year?

19.) 01 Aug 2018
01 Aug 2018 15:10:31
Seosamh if you look at the majority of his signings they are young. Only Sanchez, matic and Zlatan were ‘older’ signings. Again this boring narrative that Jose only signs old players is another stick to beat him with.

20.) 01 Aug 2018
01 Aug 2018 15:13:56
Matic, Sanchez, Lee grant, Ibra, he also still plays ashley young, antonio valencia.

21.) 01 Aug 2018
01 Aug 2018 15:37:24
Lee Grant haha the 3rd choice keeper you mean. Whatever will we do when he retires, the club is screwed!

I am confused who has been slagging Liverpool off for spending money, I don't think I have seen anyone doing that, they made the money from selling of their best players so are well within their rights to spend it on new players. I think you might be confusing a bit of banter with what people really think.

22.) 01 Aug 2018
01 Aug 2018 15:48:40
So 4 out of the 9 signings are quite old. that's nearly half. Seosamh makes a good point.

23.) 01 Aug 2018
01 Aug 2018 16:06:51
Attack Attack Attack also mentioned about both flanks its been ageing player. I'v also seen some fans wanting Tony Kroos which is another player who won't have much longer left.

Also the biggest of them all is Sanchez he's a waste of time and effort when things don't go his way he throws his dummies out of the pram and sulks. He should have stayed at Arsenal.

Add into that there is a player called Pogba there who is being wasted in Joses system when other managers have got the best out of him.

If Jose can get the best out of our players we will be fine .
86 points second in the league last season and yet a lot of our players underperformed last season .
Imagine them playing well .
Lot of silly comments about us having no good players but it's nonsense .
People get more excited over players playing for different teams, see a team playing well and think all there players are world class.
