Genuine question, if Martial hadn't scored against Liverpool on his debut in the manner that he did (especially with the commentary bringing the hairs on the back of your neck to a stand) would we all as United fans be in adoration with him the way we are?

Let's be realistic, outside of his first season he has been pretty average for a player who is at one of the top clubs in the world, and if that is down to him losing his shirt number (for an equally as illustrious number) then he really needs to give his head a screw on.

If he was so well thought of in the football world as he is by Martial FC United fans, there would be a whole host of clubs throwing money at us.

Alas, here we are. Overrated.

I don't think he is overrated. He has immense talent. But attitude seems to be a problem. He may also need a father figure kinda coach to groom him. Just my opinion though.

I’d agree with mbd he is very very talented and that’s why we as fans are frustrated. He is the first player we have had since Ronaldo (perhaps Nani) who gets the fans off their seats when he has the ball at his feet. He has the ability to go past players like they are not there and create something out of nothing. Unfortunately it seems he has a bit of an attitude problem and therefore needs to be handled in a different way than say the likes of Lukaku who thrives off criticism and it spurs him on the be better.

This is where Jose imo needs to adjust. I’m all for challenging the players and looking for a response. I love the idea of players running through a brick wall for their manager. But not everybody is like that. Some need an arm round the shoulder. That is why Fergie was the best. His longevity attributes to moving with the times and employing the best coaches, whilst knowing that Nani or Anderson needed an arm round the shoulder, whereas he could challenge Rooney or Rio to be the best they can be. I digress.

Going back to martial, his attitude does seem to be questionable and he will Waste his huge potential if he doesn’t fix up. If he had jesse or rashford’s attitude we would be seeing a player tearing the league apart. I don’t think it’s a case of Jose not rating him, he just isn’t able to get a response out of him that he wants. Both parties are to blame. And so parting ways may be the best option. But if martial thinks he will walk into Juve, Chelsea or spurs’ side he must realised that he will be expected to work just as hard to fight for his place. Personally I hope he stays and has a great season because he has all the talent in the world to do so.

I wonder what changed after his first season?

Jred, it’s well known that when Jose gave Ibrahimovic the number 9 shirt, Martial lost his head. No surprise that it’s since then he’s been a gurny wee gobsh*te.

Martial is an excellent player and was our player of the season up until Sanchez was signed. Sanchez came in and he was shunted out of the team. It must have severely dented his confidence. Young players need to be man managed carefully and I feel Mourinho's management of younger players is absolutely awful. He needs to be more flexible with players. The same approach will not work with all players. This was Ferguson's biggest strength in how he could nurture the younger boys and help them flourish.

Would lose no sleep it Martial was sold, not done it for us, not cz of Jose, not cz of LVG but because of his attitude on and off the pitch.

I though he played his best football last season was in good form just before we bought Sanchez.

Wasn't he involved in more goals per minute than any other player at the club last season? There or there abouts.

I don't think he's overrated, he's played in a system that does not suit his style at all. The slow and laborious football does not play to his strengths.

If he plays in a more attacking team I can see him scoring more goals, becoming more confident and killing teams as he gets a few years older.

I hope that's with United and not another club.
