What's your opinion on the Solskjaer appointment Ed001? Good choice? Risky? Bearing in mind it's only till may.

{Ed001's Note - seems a sensible choice to me, the only thing wrong was to say outright he has no chance of the permanent role. Doesn't exactly give him anything to aim for.}

First sensible thing Woodward's ever done, personally don't think it's all about the results this season, certainly not in the league, no chance of top 4 either, more about getting the player's confidence back, and playing in an attacking manner. Gives the board enough time to pick the right director and coach/ manager.

And the permanent role thing, maybe it's easier to let him know now, would be very very risky in the long-term if we were to appoint him; maybe it's just the chance of being interim manager that's good/ exciting enough?, Though every manager wants the big jobs.

{Ed001's Note - but saying he has no chance of it long term is not exactly giving him any real aim to go at. If he is a miserable failure or a wonderful success it makes no real difference, he will still be searching for a new job in the summer. And no matter what happens he will not have his job prospects affected elsewhere, as everyone will know he was on a hiding to nothing.}

That's the agreement with Molde though, so it's unlikely Solskjear wouldn't be fully aware of the situation I would be more upset if they said he had a chance when he didn't. Misleading an ex-player and club legend.

However, if he gets the team playing amazing football and goes on the lift the UCL this season I imagine the club might go back to Molde to try and arrange a new deal.

Ed Woodward is walking a fine line with the fans, if he is seen to mistreat or mislead a club legend he would be in dangerous waters. Best to be open, honest and up front at the start.

That way if Ole does well but isn't offered the job no one can accuse Ed Woodward of being underhanded.

I think it is another stupid thing done by the club, announcing they are only going to hire him until summer and get rid of him then. Unless they already have a guy set to takeover in the summer but can't/ won't join before that.

If Ole goes on to have a very successful season and let's say the next manager has a shakey start then everybody is going to call for his head. And if Ole doesn't bring about too big an upturn in our fortunes his motives will be questioned, people will be asking whether he is fully committed knowing he will be replaced after the season's end.

They could have simply announced him as interim / caretaker manager for the rest of the season without saying a new guy will be appointed for next season.

I think you might be right Deependra, I was thinking they will have been sounding someone out to check their interest, and they are interested, but want to finish the season where they are. All points to Pochetino in my optimistic opinion.

As far as I can tell, the club approached molde and asked them to pretty much take him on loan until the end of the season. I think I read that molde were happy to do it because the club apparently approached them first. He has said himself he is heading back at the end of the season.

If he does a fantastic job at United I would of thought he would have better options than molde in the summer .

If he does well here then I’m sure he’d want to stay and we
Would want that too if a deal could be made.

I’m excited about seeing how this turns out - feels great!

Apparently it has cost us 1.8 million to take him on loan and if we want to make it permanent in the summer, it will cost us around 7.2 million.
