Hi ed001. What is your opinion on martial? Do you think he will prosper now jose is gone and do you think he will sign a new contract.
Huge potential but his movement iff the ball has been really poor. Imo. But has he been stifled by jose? He converts a good percentage when he does get into positions to score.
Im hoping to see a lot more from him.

{Ed001's Note - if he plays up front yes. He has a great finish on him but the rest of his game is poor.}

Is one of martial’s stipulations to play up front ed?

{Ed001's Note - it is the position he would prefer and would like a chance to play there more often. Not so much a stipulation as a request strongly worded. What he wants is to feel like his future in the long term is seen as a striker.}

Interesting thanks Ed. Think you are spot on that his finishing is great but he could do so much more with his immense talent. I think under an attacking manager we will start to see a world class player. But he needs to increase his work rate and consistency. As ken said, he does not make enough of the right runs off the ball. He has the world at his feet and he needs to take it.

{Ed001's Note - I don't think he is all that talented personally. }

Ed001 your a tough critic.

Which MU if any do you rate?

{Ed001's Note - Tuanzebe is excellent. De Gea is obviously incredible. Usually anyway. I think Dalot will be great in the future. Sanchez is an excellent player, though it has not worked out yet. Lingard makes some excellent runs and scores important goals, just needs to work on his mentality. And I really like Rashford, he just needs guidance. I also think Martial could be an excellent striker, but he needs to be in and around the box playing off a defender's shoulder, not on the wing where he is terrible and offers too little other than cutting in and shooting. Better to get him where he gets the ball in more dangerous areas.}

See, I think he is better as a wide player because he can use his pace, and cut in to shoot. Up front he is too immobile to be effective. I think his first touch needs to be worked on, and his decision making and overall work rate are pretty poor. He does have ability, but I can’t see him working as a solo striker.

I think Martial has somethng of an attitude, it might just be his somewhat morose demeanour but I’m not convinced he will fulfil his potential.

Guys like Rashford, Martial and Lukaku could not have a better teacher for the next 6 months when it comes to movement, and putting the ball in the net. Easy to forget how damn good Ole was. Shame he suffered with injuries, his goal tally would be much much higher.

Agree Ed, how Tuanzebe isn't even in the squad is laughable when we have Jones and Smalling playing for us, hopefully with the new manager he'll be back in the team. Also, Bailly and Lindelof are not on your list i see, not a fan or not convinced?

{Ed001's Note - Tuanzebe is a giant leap ahead of Jones and Smalling, no idea why those two are even still at United!

Bailly is too erratic and just not good enough on the ball to include. He is not one I would say you need to get rid of, like the aforementioned Jones and Smalling, but he needs to improve his all round game for me.

As for Lindelöf, he is coming on in leaps and bounds, but he is not quite there yet. Still has a tendency to get bullied physically too. He really does not like it when the game is a physical battle.}

Ed001 I completely agree. Your point about Marital playing on the shoulder is key, this is why some believe he is a better wide player because of his ability to drift around a player, the issue is for him out wide is that often it is 2,3 players and that proves too much and the his final ball is poor. For what it’s worth, I also think Bailey has got strong foundations but needs to be coached in order to reach full potential.

{Ed001's Note - exactly KG. The only final ball Martial does well is shoot. His finishing is excellent. His composure in front of goal is also excellent. Get him the ball on the edge of the box on the move and there is a good chance of him scoring. If he is out wide, most of the time he is receiving the ball well outside the box and he has to track back, which is not his game, even when he does try to do it.

Bailly has to sort out his tendency to throw himself into needless challenges, improve his technique and stay fit. Most of all stay fit.}
