So we have been linked with Southgate this morning, which has gotten a seemingly negative response from most fans. So I thought I would ask, who is your top three choices in order of preference for the United Job?

For me it would be
1, Pochettino
2, Blanc
3, Tuchel

Then there are 3 or 4 young managers I feel we should keep a close eye on as they could be great options in the future or even now if we wanted to take that gamble. Eddie Howe, Nuno Espirito Santo, Marco Rose and Paulo Fonseca all look like excellent young managers who could be ready to challenge themselves at a higher level.

However, considering the amount of work that needs to be done with our squad, I would opt for someone a little more experienced this time, hence Pochettino, Blanc and Tuchel.

Who would you guys go for and why?

To be honest i'd prefer to go for the others you mentioned. I would ask why blanc figures so high?

Shappy

Southgate is a total no

Howe, I seriously don’t think he is a viable option, there has been gathering criticism for his clubs situation recently. Perhaps if he takes a step up to a top 6 candidate, a Leicester and after we see how he copes in that next role.

Blanc, not for me, what has he been doing for the last couple of years.

We need to be careful with gambles, those younger managers can get lost in the size of job we have at OT. We gambled with Moyes and LvG, Mourinho didn’t work and wasn’t supported, so another gamble with a multi Billion pound business is too risky for me.
Pep is unattainable
So despite not yet winning anything (which may be put right by summer) Pochettino would be my first choice. However, knowing our club, they may not be willing to pay what it takes, what Levy will demand, providing, of course, he wants to come to us and we should not assume that.

After Poch, perhaps we should consider Simeone?

Third choice, how about Woodward.?

Pochachino
Ole
Rose

I think Pochachino will stay at Spurs😆😆.

Nice list shappy. I think the Southgate rumours are pure rubbish. I see there is a massive twitter meltdown about it. I think he’s doing a great job for england and should stay where he is. He may be in ‘consideration’ but I’m sure there is 3/ 4 options before him.

1. Poch - even if we win today Poch would be my first choice. I think the way he carries himself in the media, his man management and his style of play are all in keeping with the way a united manager should be. We should go all out for him.

2. Tuchel - always a fan of his but there have been issues with his handling of egos in the past. Seems to be doing alright at PSG but may get sacked if they don’t win it. His team plays entertaining football but like I said he seems like a bit of a loose canon.

3. Ole - if we can’t get Poch and ole gets top 4 I would give it to him with the same back room staff. I was underwhelmed when we appointed ole but he’s done great. Saying all the right things and truly gets united. Question marks about how he will perform against the big boys so that remains to be seen. If we can’t get Poch we should keep him.

4. Zidane - brilliant record at real and I think that his achievements disrespected quite a lot by fans. Winning 3 champions leagues in a row is unprecedented so he knows how to win the biggest silverware. Also won the league in his second season. Whilst he has the trophy credentials, doubts remain on whether he can really build a team as opposed to inherting a very talented real side. Perhaps someone like Evra as no 2 would help him.

5. Blanc - I think he’s a quite underrated. Won the league with Bordeaux and did well at PSG. Been out of the game for a while but his sides played attractive football. He would be a ‘safe’ appointment and perhaps another experienced/ LVG type appointment. He wouldn’t be in the reckoning for me.

Wildcard - Nagelsmann. Love this guy he is destined for the very top. Progressive young manager who would have been a great fit for arsenal. Unfortunately he has signed for Leipzig otherwise he would have been my option along with Poch. Looks like he is being groomed for the Bayern job. He will do great things.

Top managers but not right for united - Allegri, Simeone. Both very good managers with extremely well drilled sides defensively. But that’s the issue for me. Far too conservative and that’s why we had issues with Jose. Simeone’s teams play with great intensity and are so well drilled. But ultimately they are boring to watch. His style would not go down well with the old Trafford faithful.

Allegri perhaps would be a better fit. Very good tactician and rotates his squad brilliantly. But with the Juve side he has at his disposal he should really be blowing sides away. Some say he is conservative because he is under so much pressure to win the champions league so he is prioritising results over style. Is his defence, his sides usually are conervative from September to March. Then they really finish strongly. Fergieesque in some ways. Last year I would have jumped at the opportunity of him as manager. But now I would avoid based on his style of play. Also, he is unlikely to be interested after we messed him around.

So for me it has to be Poch. I think we are the right move at the right time for him. Win lose or draw today he is the guy we should be going all out for. Nagelsmann would have been a nice option but attainable. If Poch fails and ole wins a cup and gets top 4 he gets my vote. Never thought I would even entertain that idea but he has been a breathe of fresh air. I would rather have someone who knows the club than an outsider who will take time to adjust to the magnitude of the task at hand. But keeping Phelan is key for ole.

Poch should be the clear number 1 choice in my opinion. He's done brilliantly at Spurs.

Others such as Allegri or Blanc are possible alternatives.

However, if we are simply looking at managers we would like and not necessarily those who are likely to move, how about Lucian Favre? He did well at Gladbach, made Nice a much better side and now at Dortmund he has them playing quick, exciting football which has them top of the Bundesliga. The average age of the Dortmund starting line up has been something like 23 which is unbelievable considering how successful they have been this season.

I like the way bielsa has Leeds playing although pochettino is 1st choice and Favre seems decent too.

Favre is brilliant RJ. But I don’t think we have much chance tbh.

Farve is someone I considered but I doubt we will be able to get him.

For me the three key factors are:
Play good football.
Promote and develop youth.
Be in contention to win titles.

Other good traits but maybe not as important to me are how they handle themselves in the press and how they handle egos within a group. Both are very important but I wouldn't choose a manager who has one of those traits over a manager who had the first three.

Not a fan of Zidane, I'm not convinced by his tactics or his ability to maintain challenges on more than one front. He consistently struggled to challenge in a league where there is only one other team likely to win the league.

I don’t understand the meltdown over Southgate he’s done a great job with England and it’s easy to forget how dreadfully the previous Managrs did, probably with better players. I get he’s not to some peoples taste but the reaction has been over the to.

I think there are a few things we need from a Manager. A willingness to develop what we have and also bring the young players on. A desire to play expansive attacking football. Strong man management skills. I also think they need to be able to speak English, not just to the players but to all the staff at the club.

I’m not as knowledgeable as a lot of you about overseas Managers but I don’t like Simeone at all, not sure what Blanc has done to merit consideration, Allegri was once in the plan but not sure if that ship has sailed.

Poch has to be the favourite, he knows the league, he plays the game the right way, he develops what he has, he doesn’t whinge, but he also hasn’t won anything yet. That might be an issue for some, not for me.

My view is simple.
We have a manager at the moment. If he secures top 4 and has a good run in both cup comps then for me he should get the job.
Anything short of that and the club will look elsewhere.
Ole has done well we were 8 points off top 4 when he came in. But if we lose today we will be 9 points off top 4. If we win it will be 6 points.
Poch is top candidate.
Southgate no
Zidane no
Howe no
Biesla very much worth considering
Simione likewise
Although both have language barrier.
Im hoping ole gets the job because it means we will have done great between now and then.

Southgate beat Panama, Tunisia, Colombia and Sweden. On top of that he couldn't hack it in club football with Middlesbrough.

Who in their right mind would even consider him for one of the biggest jobs in world football?

Allegri probably would join us after being messed around by us before.

Someone and Narglesmann both play football far closer to that of Mourinho than Pep or Klopp. Rugged counter attacking style is something I would like us to get away from.

I'm a little surprised how quickly everyone dismisses Blanc, he has managed big clubs, has won titles (not just at PSG but with Bordeaux as well), his teams play good football and he knows are club well to boot. Considering the club is in a bit of a mess and needs sorting out top to bottom having someone with experience and experience of our club at its peak puts him in a far better position than someone who is younger and less experienced. That could be something important to consider when hiring the next manager. For me Blanc is an extremely good choice for all those reasons. He just isn't as flashy as some of the other names.

Also Ed002 feels he should be first choice, for me that's someone who's opinion I value on theses sort of matters. So although my tendency is towards Pochettino, Blanc should be seriously considered.

13.) 13 Jan 2019
13 Jan 2019 15:19:02
1 - Julian Nagelsmann
2 - Marcelo Gallardo
3 - Mauricio Pochettino (would still prefer an Ancelotti over him though)

I question Tottenhams mental fragility the moment there's the slightest bit of pressure. For me that doesn't just come from the players but from the top and for me that rules him out.

Blanc has been out of a job for a bit. Surely there's a reason for that and again for me that rules him out.

Simeone's style is awful to watch.

Not sure how that works Mort. Could've been a personal choice by blanc the last couple of years.

I think he's a good coach and would be a good fit. But Ole seems to keep improving this side, so I'd imagine he will be close to it.
