I think Ole is managing expectations and acknowledging that City and Liverpool seem to be a big step ahead of the rest. To suggest we will challenge immediately next year could be seen as naive, I’m guessing he’s trying to show he has a structured plan, and one that probably involves promoting a couple of the youngsters.

Beckham statue, wtf?

If he's talking about next season and transfers doesn't that suggest he's at least confident of getting the job or has a good indication that he is getting the job?

Perhaps people should ask themselves whether our owners are willing to make the level of investment needed to see the club successful in the short term, significant levels of money may not be made available to make an immediate difference. One aspect of appointing OGS is that he may not be seen as someone who would demand the levels of money on transfers other more experienced managers might. Poch has already made some noises and a manager asking for big money on transfers (like JM did) might shift the spotlight back on our owners. It may make OGS a more attractive manager if our aims are more financial than football success. So if he is willing to work under Glazernomics he could be an attractive fit. SAF kept the club winning momentum going under Glazernomics, perhaps there is hope OGS will follow in SAF shoes in that aspect. Managing our expectations is to be admired, two years is realistic given how far we fell behind but there has to be concern at whether the owners will aim for the top as City’s did, it is high time they show real ambition.

Ole's comments about no more marque signings would have been music to the glazer ears. However if that stops Woodward from pissing away more money on vanity signings that don't work then maybe not a bad thing. As long as money is spent on sensible signings who actually fit what the team needs.

We know the glazers won't spend. We can't force them to spend. We can't force them to sell. The only sniff of a buyer has been the Saudis who of course bring their own baggage which some find unpalatable.

The glaziers have spent massive amounts of money in the past few years.

I don't get this the glaziers don't spend

How many transfer records have we broke in the last 5 years

It's the wasting the money on average players that's the problem not the money being there or not.

Which is why I said it would be good if it stops Woodward blowing it on vanity signings more concerned with selling shirts an lunchboxes.

The Glazers have only stumped up any real net funds in the last couple of years, after years and years of under investment. Even so we still have mammoth debts. Whoever has made final decisions on players has got a few wrong and I don’t think it was always the manager. Do the Glazers want to be No1 or is top 4 and income stream enough. Is Ole strong enough to demand more? SAF didn’t seem to and that under investment is one reason why we are where we are.
