I'd DDG won't sign a new contract, who would sell him, who would let him go for free?

I'd sell him, it's a lot of money to lose out on. Romero is already a very good GK.
Henderson has played very well for Sheff Utd. Weve got Grant as 3rd choice.

Of course, we can always go out and buy another keeper.
Oblak would be a perfect replacement if he was available.

As a club, we've allowed players to run their contracts down and leave for free.

Smalling and Jones have signed new contracts but they aren't good enough.

We have too many mediocre players on large wages. We lavishly spent on Sanchez. We are suffering because of this.

All in all, Woodward has caused a lot of problems of the club.
He won't back the manager. Its a lot about the commercial side of things.

De Gea is the one player we have who I would be delighted to keep but in no way upset if he decides to leave. The last 5 or 6 years he has been incredible, during a much less successful period than the 20 or so years that preceded it. If he is going to leave, it should be this summer in order to make sure the club receive a pretty big fee. Possibly even a world record fee for a keeper but with only one year left on his deal that's not a guarantee.

I'd play Romero with Henderson as number 2. The £50m-£60m we should get for De Gea covers a large amount of what we will likely end up spending on a CB as well.

I'd sign Kasper Schmeichel. Premiership proven and I think the team is lacking leaders at a good age where we could bring back one of the younger keepers and let them develop.
Kasper, Alderwield, Wan Bisaka and Dele Alli would be the player I'd go for.

Agree with everything you say MH but I fear Romero is vastly overrated by some on here. He’s a huge downgrade on DDG and will only contribute to us finishing 4th-6th. We need best in class for that position, all of the most successful teams have a world class keeper and although Romero is a good backup he’s not of the standard needed to challenge at the top. If he was, he’d be doing it elsewhere.

This is something I've been contemplating for a while now.

For me the issue is at DDG age he will sign two more big contracts, one now and one in 3-4 years time when he is 31/ 32. If we give in and give him a contract of 400k+ per week now, then how much will we have to pay him to sign the next contract? 500k, 600k per week?

Without a doubt DDG is one of the best if not the best goalkeeper around at the moment. However, his form hasn't been great this season, or at least not up to his usual high standards. Yet when we access his all round ability as a goalkeeper I find it strangely lacking in several areas. Shot stopping he is the best in the world, yet there are at least 10 keepers better at playing out from the back. He still isn't great at coming out for crosses, and he doesn't dominate his area.

These things worry me slightly as when he ages his reactions will slow down and that will bring down his shot stopping ability. DDG with a good but not phenomenal shot stopping ability for me would struggle to be one of the top ten goalkeepers in the world.

If we lose DDG this summer then no doubt in the short term that weakens us. Yet Romero for me is better at commanding his area and far better at playing the ball out from the back. So although he would concede a few goals that DDG wouldn't. Maybe his organisation might mean our defenders are positioned slightly better and maybe his distribution might lead to a few extra goals scored. So all in all it might not effect the team as a whole as much as we might think.

Plus Dean Henderson looks a top prospect. If DDG signs another long term contract then Henderson will almost certainly leave.

Maybe it is time to say thank you to DDG and allow him to move on, receive a large fee and invest in other areas of the squad. Of course only time will tell if that is a good idea or not.

I would be happy to sell if we could get a great price. He’s had an iffy season so I don’t know if his head has been turned but we’ve had our money’s worth from him and there are good goalies out there as we have seen with recent EPL purchases. And Wazza, I think Romero is excellent, but if he isn’t, then we buy someone else.

I'd say to him and his agent that the contract offer is valid to June 30th. If not taken up by midnight its withdrawn and he's available.
